I desperately needed new shoes and kept these only because they were the best out of the five different shoes I've ordered this year and the only one I kept. However, I find it a bit too loose in the heel and definitely find the toe box both narrower and shallower than previous New Balance shoes. In addition, if I tie the laces snugly to provide more stability it hits the nerve on the top of the instep and hurts a lot.

Put it through the acid test of wearing them while traveling by air and attending a week long conference the day after delivery. No break in time. Both involve lots of time on my feet: when in the airport gobs of walking or standing in line carrying a heavy pack. Everything went great. No rubs. Happy arches. Looking forward to months of comfort.

I have never spent this much on sneakers before but have lower back pain and cannot tolerate cheap shoes anymore. So far, they are the most comfortable pair of sneakers I've ever had and I will purchase more in the future.

This is the shoe I kept after trying about 6 pairs from Zappos. I have wide feet with kind of bent toes and a bunion or two. Theses are incredibly comfortable. The toe box is wide enough not to smash my toes and the mesh on top is very flexible and forgiving of my hammer toe. The foot bed is very wide and stable in the fore foot which I appreciate. These are going on a fall trip to Iceland, so the WATERPROOF nature of them is very important to me. They are lined with a soft thin fuzzy polartec type material. They also have a boot strap at the heel for easy on. Got the gull grey color...very nice and not flashy. Thanks to Zappos for the easy return policy which makes finding shoes so much easier!

A perfect, serious walking shoe for rainy and cold weather.

Wear size 13, however New Balance in a size 13 is usually a little short. Based on reviews that this style runs large I took s Chance and ordered size 13 M. Luckily Zappos shipped a 13 W to me by mistake. Couldn’t believe how well they fit and how comfortabe they were, right out of the box. Bought them as I was tired of cold wet feet in the mesh tennis shoes I had and we were getting a lot of rain. My feet have been dry, warm and comfy and I love it. So glad a mistake was made and will order New Balance in W in the future.

The positive is that the shoe is comfortable for walking. Now to the negative: I do not find the appearance/style to be attractive, and my experience is that they are not shoes to wear for walking in any other condition/circumstances than dry pavement. The reason I only gave it three stars is because I purchased it based on the answer provided by Zappos about the waterproof qualities of certain parts of the shoe. My experience in wearing them once walking in frost covered grass is that the shoes are not waterproof nor are they even water resistant. In other words, expect your socks to get wet when wearing them in any other circumstances where it is not dry. I am keeping them because I have already worn them. Had I known they were not to be worn in non-dry conditions, I would have returned them upon receipt.

I bought these shoes to go hiking in Ireland. I wear a 7W in most styles but for sneakers I have to get a 7.5W. To my amazement these were too large in 7.5W so I reordered the 7W and they fit perfectly with lots of support and cushioning. The real test will be when I wear them all day traipsing over the Irish countryside but I have a very good feeling about these shoes. I'm very happy with them.

This sneaker is perfect for a walking shoe, feet don't hurt at the end of 8 hours of walking. Took about a day to get used to them, but by the second I was hooked. The only down side is that they are waterproof so they do not breathe at all. So no ventilation what so ever. Other than that I would recommend this sneaker.

I wanted a pair of shoes that I could walk in during the winter. I wanted less weight than my Merrell hiking boots and more warmth and traction than my New Balance 880 sneakers. I have plantar fasciitis with high arches. Typical shoe size is 5 1/2, Sneaker and boot size generally 6 1/2 to 7 M. Ordered both a 6 and 6 1/2. Keeping the 6. They will do. Each shoe weighs about a 1/4 lb. less than the Merrells, and there is enough weatherproofing to manage in the snowy streets in my neighborhood. I just took a two mile walk the day after a snowstorm - streets and sidewalks in my neighborhood are OK but some ice and significant snow still. These did well. Noting the comments re inadequate waterproofing, I avoided puddles - but it is wet out there and my feet stayed dry. I bought a pair in black - I'm really not happy with the appearance of the shoe and wish I had ordered a different color - perhaps in the tan they'd look less ungainly. That being said, I'm going to add a better insole and the shoe will meet my needs, so I will keep and use.

Love these shoes! The fit right out of the box was perfect. I ordered 7D because I have a wide foot. This pair of shoes were a great price for the money too. I love my New Balance shoes!!!

Very comfy! A little masculine, but look good! Make my size 12 foot look smaller so that’s a plus!!

I really wanted to love these shoes.They were advertised as extra wide, so I hoped they would work. I bought a half size larger than my previous shoes, but the toe box really narrows and it still is too narrow for my toes. Yes, I have wide toes and ball of foot, but the outsides of my little toes still get rubbed. Because I bought a larger size, the shoe is really too big for my foot. I was also surprised that there is no cushion to these shoes. They are pretty stiff, even after a week of walking 5 miles a day in them. I am disappointed.

I wanted to try this New Balance walking shoe as I've worn NB in the past. The toe box was not quite wide enough for me, so I'm returning them. I've found the Brooks athletic shoes on this site to be lighter and much more comfortable right out of the box.

I normally wear 6.5W. After reading several reviews, ordered 6.5 extra wide. Way too large in heel area, so exchanged for 6 extra wide. Still too wide in the heel, but not enough wiggle room for toes. Just not a comfortable fit.

I have been wearing New Balance sneakers for years. I have a wide foot and need a wide sneaker and New Balance is one of the few companies that make a variety of wide width sneakers! These sneakers are not true to width size. I have never had any issue with width on New Balance Sneakers in all of these years. I ended up getting small painful blisters on my little toes. Three days later and I had to buy those toe sleeves to cover the painful spot. I'm hoping they stretch out really quickly!

These are good quality shoes. you really do have to pay a little more for a good shoe these days.

I’m very happy with these shoes. I have wide feet that are often hard to fit and uncomfortable due to past foot surgeries. I ordered multiple pairs of hiking shoes until I found these. After purchasing I wore them for short and then longer walks for a few weeks and they remained comfortable throughout. They felt heavy at first but I soon got used to the weight and now value their sturdiness. I wore them almost daily on a 9-day trip to the Canadian Rockies. They helped me feel balanced and stable even on vertical, rocky hikes. They proved to be waterproof as advertised. We experienced a variety of temperatures but the shoes never caused my feet to feel too warm or too cold. I did wear them with good hiking socks. Now that we’re home I keep wearing them even for walking around our neighborhood. I’m so glad I found these shoes. Thanks New Balance. And thanks for the great selection and service Zappos.

Just what I was looking for. Well-made, good support, and lined with Goretex. Super for damp conditions.

These were comfortable the minute I put them on. There is room for my orthotics and with the EE width can wear heavier socks for more cushion.

I have a hard time getting shoes that are comfortable and fit well. These shoes hurt because of the neuroma in my foot. I will have to go with a wide width.

I bought this shoe for many years and loved it. Unfortunately, now that I've developed a bunion on each foot, the toe box is too small and they are no longer comfortable.

A little stiff/very sturdy shoe ...haven’t decided if i will keep them yet

These shoes are keepers. Although the arch support is lacking, that's an easy fix. There was also a surprise, the shoes' tongue has a gusset. It's great at keeping dirt and pebbles out of the shoe.

I was looking for a black pair of walking shoes I could use when traveling and live in my 990 NB shoes. I ordered a 9.5 W which is my typical size in athletic shoes. and it was too big The shoe was very narrow for a wide in fact my orthotics would not fit. I am bummed as they are a nice looking soe.
