I was looking for a plain-ish oxford shoe I could wear as an alternative to my running shoes, casual sneakers, or snow boots. For foot/fit comparison's sake: I am a true 8.5, medium width but for a small tailor's bunion developing on the small toe side of each foot, very high arches, high instep. I tend towards over pronation and walk with a first metatarsal drop (meaning I strike the ground with the big toe side of my foot first, especially when running) for which I have compensatory orthotics. The Shoe: This is a straight forward, low heeled oxford. No decorative stitching or embellishments, which is what I was looking for. Leather upper and leather lined. It's a very pretty, if plain oxford. The leather looks and feels lovely. Even though I am an 8.5M, I used to be a 9 in fry boots, so that's what I ordered. Bad move, as these were too long in the foot. My recommendation would be to order your true size, regardless of your size history with Frye shoes. Aside from being too long, however, these felt wicked painful, even walking on carpeting while trying them on. They are stiff and the foot bed is flat as a board. The insole is not removable, however, and there isn't enough room to insert my orthotics (I would put in an arch "cookie" for support, were I to keep them). My sense is that they would take some breaking in. Lastly, the sole is very slippery. Back they go...

It looks quite lovely, stylish. Unfortunately the outer sole is quite slippery so I decided to return.

This shoe fits my foot perfectly in a 9, which is my normal size. I can wear socks or not. The heel cup is just right and the toe box is wide enough. I have a high arch and instep and my foot feels well supported in this shoe. I wear a lot of barefoot shoes and do not tolerate toe squishing. I also do not like cushioned footbeds or lot of support. The leather sole is supple and the top of the shoe formed to my foot easily, but it was a bit stiff at first.

Perfect oxford! Simple and straightforward, this shoe is highly versatile. Dress them up or down, they work beautifully. I normally wear an 8.5, but had to size up to a 9 to get a comfortable fit and room for thin socks. I got the waxed cognac, and love the look with dark-wash slim-fit jeans and a long cardigan! Autumn (Zappos lady) is right! Keep things simple!

This shoe in a size 7 1/2 medium was too large for me. I wear a 7 1/2 in most brands. I will be reordering in a different size. This metallic Frye Elyssa Oxford is a beautiful shoe. The leather was soft and very comfortable. I like that this shoe has a leather upper, a leather lining, a leather insole with padding, and a leather sole with part of the heel being rubber. The leather sole is slick but as with all leather soles after wearing a few times the slickness will go away.

Round-toe classic business shoe? More of these styles, please! The Frye brand seems to very often run narrow and flat, but these fit comfortably right out of the box in my regular size.

Frye sizing and quality is all over the place. I have some Fryes that I adore but have run into numerous quality control issues and sometimes really poor materials and construction. These shoes could have been made from plastic and were flimsy, stiff and cheap. The sizing was way off-- I always have to size up 1/2 size with Frye, but these things were a full size too small. Although the style itself is cute, these shoes are just bad.

Was looking for a simple grey pair of oxfords and these fit the bill. Great Quality..(of course they are made by Frye), soft leather, no break in required. Wore them for my routine 9 plus hour workday. I gave four stars overall: One drawback is the sole which upon early wear was quite slippery, but once I wore them for a few hours, they were no longer slippery. An improvement for Frye would be for them to add the rubber they currently have on the boots for traction purposes. These will be good friends for a while!

Love, love, LOVE these shoes (for work)! I'm in the military and they meet the requirements for daily wear. So comfortable- I wear pants more now just so I can wear these shoes!

My normal shoe size is 9.5 to 10 womens. I purchased these in 9.5, and had to break them in a little. I require a wider toe box from years of working on my feet, so this was no surprise. The rest of my foot is quite narrow. When I purchase leather shoes, I understand they should fit a little snug, so they aren't too loose when they naturally wear. I wore them in the house with thick socks, and sprayed Shoe Stretch along the toe box. They now fit perfectly, and look so nice. I have received more compliments on these shoes than any shoes I own. Color is beautiful. Would like to purchase something like this, maybe a brogue, with some decorative stitching.

These oxfords fit like other Frye oxfords; a bit long and lean. The metallic color dresses up jeans, looks professional for work, and is a little something different. These are less stiff and squeaky than some other Frye oxfords like the James Wingtip were straight out of the box. Still will get softer when they get broken in. Glad I got them:)

I wear a 7.5-8, with one foot a half size larger than the other and a bunion on the short foot which makes it fully wide. A 7.5 gave plenty of room, so much that I ordered a 7 to compare, which was way too snug, so I kept the 7.5. They can feel a bit loose around the heel, but lacing them with my heel snugly at the back of the shoe really helped, as the leather laces hold fast. Beautiful shoe and is slippery but that’s just a leather sole at first. The bottoms scruff almost instantly when you wear them on pavement and after that you won’t slip. Very comfortable. I’m blister-prone and only developed a little chafing on my small toe by the end of the day, and I walk a lot.

Very happy with these shoes. Fit my size 8, narrow foot perfectly. They look good and appear versatile. Yes, they are slippery on the bottom. Usually walking outside a few times takes care of that. Good investment for a timeless look. I expect to be wearing these for a long time. Thank you Zappos for the fast delivery!!!

I had been looking for a grey, quality oxford for quite some time. I finally found it. The shoe is stylish, fits true to size, and is comfortable for even long distance walking. I look forward to wearing them for years to come! The stacked heel is wooden, not plastic with a faux wooden cover. Very happy with the Elyssa Oxford.

The shoe was just a little too roomy for me and the footbed felt a little stiff. I have had surprisingly good luck with Frye in the past and will definitely order that brand again but this time, I opted for the Samuel Hubbard loafer which was a more comfortable fit right out of the box

I got these in the silver metallic leather and an a true size 6 in Fryes. I have wideish feet and low arches, and these were surprisingly too wide on me! The toe was also at least half an inch too long. These things flopped on my feet, whereas the Tracy oxfords I have fit absolutely perfectly. If they had these in a 5.5 I would have exchanged them, but sadly, no go. I haven’t been a 5.5 since I was in junior high! The silver metallic color is gorgeous, and a softer leather than the black or grey. Sadly, they’re going back.

This is the first Frye shoe I got that has real padding inside (and I have several) it holds the foot well and is very comfortable to walk in, also, a good looking "go to a meeting" shoe.

This pair of FRYE ELYSSA oxfords in a size 7 fitted really well. The first pair ordered in a 7 1/2 was too large but was perfectly made. I returned the size 7 because the coloring on the metallic leather was all splotchy and looked faded. The outside of one of the heels had a spot of dark dye on it. The leather on toe box of each shoe in front of the laces had a puffed up place across the top. I was disappointed in the quality of this pair of Frye shoes. Will order one more pair of these shoes and hopefully will get a quality pair.
