other than the shoulder strap partially coming loose its been a good edc bag. I commute to work and am also in college still. I've used it for luggage, hiking, edc, shopping, school and even as a range bag at times for pistols. I keep it synched down during normal use and it stays compact enough to be used in city's. when fully loading it it holds as much as I would want it to internally but really needs more synch straps I've had it since the end of 2018 I believe.

Hello. I purchased this bag approximately 3 months ago- so I've had some time with it. A great bag with one exception. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but the bag doesn't sit upright. It's temperamental. You have to find the perfect angle to lean it on for it to stay upright. It's super comfortable. But I guess with the hardened piece of plastic that is in the back cushioned area- makes it difficult to put the bag down anywhere Without it toppling over. Perhaps it's the way I'm using it- but my previous bag didn't have this issue. Moving forward I will research bags a little better- but other than that- I've learned to live with it. I love the comfort, the look, the many little compartments and, especially the fleece padded pockets.

I love this backpack. I got it for my first semester of college. I am now a junior in college and it has not given up on me. Even when I carry around my massive textbooks, it doesn't feel too bad on my back as I would with other backpacks. It has a lot of space which is nice. I just don't understand why it's not waterproof. Like it has a hiking whistle which has no use to me, but why include this and NOT be waterproof? I just want everyone else to know this as I thought I'd be okay walking through campus getting rained on and when I got home I realized all of my stuff got ruined. Still recommend though. Maybe just buy a waterproof spray and you're set.

I use this bag every day for my college needs, as well as my airplane carry-on. The bag overall is great. It looks good, it has very functional pockets. Overall it feels durable and very high quality. However, I do find it a little uncomfortable on my shoulders. Maybe I'll get used to it, maybe not. Another small thing is that I find it annoying to lean against a wall or a desk, as it falls forward very easily. It has a fairly stiff design which is a positive when it comes to your laptop, but a negative in terms of portability, storage, and general comfort. Overall, not a bad bag!

I love this bag! I use it everyday of school and it's super comfortable. The only thing is it does have a certain weight limit that I did not know about and I broke the straps on my first one, but it was easy to send back in and they gave me a replacement!

This backpack is super comfortable to wear, even with larger loads. Loads that would leave my back sore at the end of the day with my old backpack now leave my back feeling much better at the end of the day than it would be with my old backpack. Only issue is no noticeable reflectors on it, which can be a concern for those biking home in the dark

This backpack would've been perfect if it had a bigger tablet pocket. I use an iPad Pro 12.9in for college and when I place it in its designated place and it sticks out because the tablet pocket isn't deep enough. I still trusted the backpack, went to school did nothing crazy, then I noticing my iPad seemed to be bent. The bend was right at the area the pocket didn't cover, when I would wear my pack it put pressure on my tablet. I absolutely loved this backpack, it was PERFECT but the sleeve cost me money I couldn't spare to repair my device. I will wait for a new design because The North Face still remains to make the best all around packs.

The product is quite good and a nice backpack but the color was not as shown. I ordered the cosmic blue/asphalt grey bag and the sides were blue not grey as shown in the picture

I really like that there are plenty of pockets. The laptop pocket has two sleeves, facilitating the storage of a laptop and another device, like a tablet or documents. Then there's the main compartment (which only has one tiny pocket), and a smaller utility pocket that is meant for pens and smaller items. Finally, there are three more pockets on the outside, and two places one can store bottles in. These bottle holders are quite flexible and can hold the bulky Nalgene bottles, which is great. The backpack also comes with chest and waist straps. The waist strap can easily be hidden by tightening it and wearing it behind one's back but the chest strap cannot be hidden, so you'll have to deal with the straps dangling around your chest if you don't need it. I wish there were one or two additional pockets in the main compartment. It's basically one large compartment and it's not possible to further divide the storage. I find it annoying to have to dig around the main compartment if I'm looking for something specific. Overall, this is a sturdy and practical backpack and I'll be happy to use it for travel, hikes, and commuting.

Love the color. Was expecting it to be a little bigger since I want to use it for when I travel for work. But it's good size for the office to carry laptop.

Overall, this is a great backpack. There is more than enough space for everything I need! Only downside is that the straps can be a bit uncomfortable.

This is a really high-quality bag. Has plenty of room for pretty much anything you're using it for. My only complaint is the actual color of the bag and did not match their list photos. I ordered the Zinc Gray Heather / TNF Black, in the pictures it appeared to be silver and black. But in reality it is dark gray and black.

This backpack was highly more favorable compared to others. From the front pockets to the rear pockets, this bag has a variety of pockets for different functions, keeping you organized. The space in the backpack is plentiful to keep all my school supplies, and allowing room for other daily items such as lunch, and exercise clothing. The only thing I wish was different with this backpack would be to have a water-resistant/lighter weight material.

This product is great!! I love the light weight design and storage areas. My only con though is lack of waterproof but it takes a lot of rain over a long period to soak the inside.

I love the space and size of the Surge. The only wish I have is that the women's style would come in more colors.

Decided it was time for an upgrade after retiring 15-year old North Face pack. Satisfied with my purchase, but the grey shown in the product photo is significantly lighter than the actual product. To my benefit, I like the look of the pack that I received much better.

When I first got this thing it took me 5 minutes just to go thru all the compartments in the bag. Lots of storage lots of space. I fit a complete mobile workstation in this bag and still have enough room for books. Breakdown of items in bag. Surface Charging cable for laptop. Nexstand (stand for laptop) Tablet Stand for tablet Portable logitech keyboard Wireless Mouse Jaybird Wireless headphones AKG wired headphones Anker Battery pack Surge protector Portable kit with pen testing items from Pineapple, Turtle, Rubber ducky, panda wireless dongle and other fun assundries. Reading Glasses Bag is on the heavy side before loading it up but thats to be expected with all the padding for the tech you load up in this thing.
