Bought this for our retirement celebration trip out west. It will be used as a carry on and it is well designed and I can already tell I will have room to spare! #sweepstakes

Everything I've purchased from eaglecreek has been a well engineered marvel, this bag is no exception! I've wanted it for two years, I finally saved and got it. I can't wait to test this bag out on many many adventures! #sweepstakes

This backpack is just the perfect size for my carry-on for my upcoming trip to Iceland!. I love having multiple compartments that are sturdy, yet flexible . It is so well built and supportive. Thank you!

I used this pack for a two week trip to Ecuador and again for a two week trip to Argentina + Uruguay. I LOVE it. I love how it opens and has the two separate compartments. It fits absolutely so much and even though I bought two ponchos while traveling, somehow the pack magically fit those in with no problems. Definitely recommend using packing cubes... but then I'm addicted to those, so of course I would say that!!

We also bought these bags for a two week trip to Italy (business and pleasure). We each brought an additional thin/small pack as a second carry on. The Global Companion felt like our home away from home where ever we went, safely holding everything we needed and fitting anywhere, even under the airplane seat if necessary. I'm okay with the non-stashable hip belt, which can be extended and clipped backwards. The hip belt serves its purpose very well and the pack was comfortable to carry long distances. We've carried it for multi-mile walks. My size 9 shoes fit in the shoe sleeve, my GF got two pairs in. I used one packing cubes for cables and a Wallaby (love that), and my GF used about 300 packing cubes (well, maybe 3) and really enjoyed them. Little things: It would be nice to have both stash pockets locking and a slightly easier way to attach a miscellaneous secondary pack (although I found a way to do this). There is no storage for a large cell phone (Note 8), nor any easy way I could find to attach a carrier for front access. I used a non-EC neck wallet for passport and my phone. The mesh stuffer pocket is a great feature, although I didn't find the fastener all that functional. Overall, great work EC. Clever design thinking. Thanks!

This is the best traveling back pack I Ever had. 40 L is perfect for short trips and some long trips like 10-15 days. Excellent construction, tough. I would Love to see an olive green colored one.

I bought this backpack specifically for overseas travel for 1-2 weeks. I used it when I went to Italy and it was the perfect bag. Easy to pack and access everything. I typically travel light and don't like to have anything more than just a carry on. This was everything I was looking for. Keeps enough clothes for a couple of weeks (reuse some of my clothes), pair of shoes or sandals, camera, drone, and toiletries. Lightweight and easy on the back. I'd like to have the bigger one but then we run into the territory of needing to check the bag in. This is the perfect travel bag!

I took this pack on a 3 week trip to SE Asia and loved it. My thought is that the point of a backpack is to keep you from carrying too much, so complaints of tight fit might mean it's not the correct luggage for your trip. This pack is excellent in efficiency, and best used with packing cubes. I had trepidation about the lack of stowable shoulder straps and hip belt, but I ended up with no problems there - not as irritating as I thought it would be. Also, for women - I first bought the 40L women proportioned backpack and it was too narrow for me. I am 5'9" and fairly broad shouldered, but lean framed, for your reference. A few cautionary notes on this pack: A full size camera (even separating body and lens) will not fit well anywhere in this pack if you are padding it for safety. A large disappointment is that the laptop access zipper is not lockable - and that means someone can get into half of your luggage through that zipper. The main top zipper is lockable, which locks both interior compartments together, but the laptop access zipper also reaches into the half of the packpack against your back. I was aware of this before I left and kept things locked in the outside half, but it seems a simple fix for Eagle Creek to make that zipper lockable. I realize anyone seriously wanting to get in to steal stuff isn't going to be deterred, but the casual thief could be put off by more lockable zippers. Including making both front stash pockets lockable, not just one. Given that you are aware of where to place the things needing a lock, this pack was extremely durable and looked and operated exactly the same when I returned from Thailand and Cambodia as when I left.

My wife and I are 60 years old but we keep backpacking around the world, we have hundreds of movies on Youtube helping people travel our way. We have many backpacks but we are still looking for the best and definitive. We travel light and prefer to take our backpacks with us on the plane. I traveled with the Rick Steves backpack once but we don't like it, it has no structure and looks like a bag of clothes. On the last trip we used the 40L E-Bag Mother Lode which is very good, spacious but with a defect, not comfortable to carry. Now we buy the Global Companion 40L but unfortunately it is not what I expected. The backpack seems to be more comfortable but has much less space, even less than it is allowed to carry in the airplane cabin. It doesn't fit 1 week of clothes inside if we bring 1 pair of sneakers and a jacket. The E-Bag not only fits all clothing but can be expanded, it would be perfect if it had a better shoulder and waist support. This is what I expected from Global Companion but was surprised by its small size. The backpack is very well made and made of good materials with the exception of elasticized fabrics which in our experience will become slack over time. They should wear corded nylon. I know there is a 60L Global Companion but it can't be carried in the cabin of the plane and definitely the 40L didn't take good advantage of the interior space of the backpack. I have many suggestions for improving the product, including: putting an expansion zipper, adjusting the height of the straps, changing the opening zipper closer to the back and not in the middle of the backpack, being able to remove the NoteBook tab for those who don't. have, increase the foam of the belts and waist, etc., etc. I don't regret buying it, it's a good product, but only for 2 or 3 day trips. I am still looking for the perfect backpack and I know exactly what I want, unfortunately I am not a manufacturer. At the moment I will try to customize the Mother Lode 40L E-Bag .

Based on the videos of the 40L I was expecting a great pack to be as good as a carry on as well as a day bag. NOPE. Big bag overall when you wear it but it's a mystery where all the space goes when you try to pack it. You probably need to buy MORE packing cubes to effectively pack. If you want to put anything thicker than your airline tickets into the accessory/utility pouches you want to do that BEFORE you pack. The pockets will be so tight that it's hard to access anything. The waist strap is worthless and NOT removable. You will have straps flapping all around you. If your feet are bigger than an infant size 4 don't bother with the shoe compartment. Rainfly compartment will collect debris when you put it on the ground. You can't return it. Well, you can return it if you don't use it keep the tags on it and don't take it our of the package. This is an OK small suit case. Rubbish as travel pack. Overall.... No thanks.

Although the bag is very well made, i was disappointed with several items. - The rain fly access, turns out the pocket runs the length of the bag and you can feel the packing cubes. Meaning anyone can open the pocket slash the liner and remove the contents. -the stash pockets are too small and only one is lockable, barely as the ring were the lock treads can be easily cut from the fabric. last you need packing cubes, if not all your items will move around due to the lack of internal compression straps, even if the are covered with the mesh. I will be returning this item.
