I would love this product 100% if a few changes would be made. The strap is too wide so cross body it rubs my neck, the strap needs to be longer, it hits too high on my back at cross body. If those few changes would be made it would be a perfect bag. It is just a tad too small, maybe 2 inches deeper would be great as well.

I travel for work. I love the thoughtfulness of a lot of the features. The wheels glide with little effort. This bag is able to hold 5-7 days worth of clothes and still fit in the overhead of regional flights.
However I can not continue to recommend this bag any longer. I have replaced the handle twice and it broke again. Same spot as before. Timbuktu sent a new handle a graphite grey which looked promising, but 6 months later; here I am again. This is an expensive bag for only lasting a year and a half.

I've only been using this back about 9 months as a carry-on. I like the size and functionality , but it's already fraying on the bottom corner. I'm sending it in (at my expense) and hopefully it's being covered undet the warranty since it shouldn't be coming apart after 9 months. I've owned cheaper luggage that held up better for longer. In doing research after this started, I'm seeing photos of the same issue with other owners.

I travel for a living and wanted something different than the norm Luggage Works that is most common. After the 2nd trip the front pocket zipper fell off. The rear frame scratches easily and the handle has a lot of wobble to it when extended. After 1 month one of the wheels fell off mid trip! And of course I don't carry around an alien wrench. I didn't realize I was suppose torque the wheels down before use. Over all very disappointed in the quality and I don't see a way this will last a year with my current usage.

This has been the best roller bag that I have owned in my 34 years as a flight attendant. Until it hasn't. The handle is poorly designed, and left me helpless while traveling. My husband just had the same thing happen, while traveling for a week. Needless to say, the handles are continuously out of stock. Lifetime guarantee means nothing, if one can't get the parts to fix the problem. I have promoted this bag for all of its good qualities, but the handle situation will keep me from doing so in the future.

I had the brown and orange carry-on. I loved my suitcase and it loved me back. We traveled to France, Italy, Ibiza, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Beliz, and many other places. We were there until a careless Delta employee broke my baby's handle. I cried IT HURT! We could no longer enjoy life together. One year later I replaced my companion with the copilot. I didn't feel the same. To my dismay, my Copilot's handle, all of a sudden, doesn't come up! I spent less money on my Copilot and it showed. VERY DISAPPOINTED I miss my real Tinbuk2 baby!

I have two of the co pilot bags, one purchased about 3 years ago and one purchased a little over 1 year ago.
Within the first year, the bearings of the wheels on bag one started to rattle and the wheels started to wobble. After a few more weeks the increased drag from the bearings starting to fail warranted an email to timbuk2. They sent replacement wheels with bearings, and I figured it was a one time issue.
One year later, about 6 months into the second bag purchase (my wife and I are both aircrew and we liked the bag) the second bags bearings started failing as well as the second set of bearings from the first bag.
I have owned luggage works, travel pro, and a few off brand suitcases and have never had as many wheel/bearing issues as I have had with these bags.
As much as I love my timbuk2 messenger, brief, and fanny pack, I can't recommend this product for aircrew or frequent flyers
I would say that this is a small inconvenience that could probably be remedied with a warranty fix, which I'm sure timbuk2 would be happy to provide, except that they are also sold out of the wheel and hub assemblies for potentially 2 months as confirmed by their customer service department.
As a frequent flyer who requires a dependable bag 3 days out of every week, 2 months is unfortunately unacceptable for any bay id recommend to aircrew or frequent flyers. I now am expected to purchase a new bag due to a supply chain issue, which might be driven by the fact that many other customers have been experiencing frequent wheel and bearing replacements with this bag.
The GOOD:
Bag holds up well, zippers have no issues, and the design is stylish and functional. Customer service is responsive.
The BAD:
See long winded post above
Solution:
Better bearings or a bag loan option to allow individuals in the industry to continue to do their jobs without excess expenses or inconvenience.

On my first time flying with the M size, I had to check it in because of the airline's restrictions. It came back scratched up and very dirty looking (photo is after cleaning it with a cloth), so I don't think the fabric on the front is very durable - I'm thinking it's going to look very beat up very quickly, which is disappointing. Also, according to my measuring tape, it stands 23" high (excluding the top handle), not 22" as advertised, so I'm worried I will not be allowed to take it carry-on with Canadian airlines.
Otherwise, I love the compartments, useful zippers, and look. Wheels are super smooth and seem durable. Some sort of compression system inside would be useful, since the mesh does not do that. The front compartments sort of stick out rather than lying flush with the suitcase.

I am very concerned. This bag has rave reviews but I am already having to send it in for repair on the handle. The handle completely came off in the middle of the airport. When I called customer service I was told the handle being repaired is common. For a bag of this price point it's insane I am sending it in after 90 days.

The copilot is a cut above the competition. Light weight, good strong wheels. And if it ever breaks, I know you will fix it. Plus you print the best San Francisco map on your bags that I have ever seen. Thanks for making stuff I trust.

I ordered one last year for my girlfriend and really liked the quality. This year it seems like the wheels aren't properly lubricated and the main zipper constantly gets caught on the fabric inside. The zipper is also really hard to pullseems cheaply made.

I love the bag layout and wheels are bombproof... But the handles are trash. I travel a lot, over the last 3 years I have probably 300+ overnight trips with this bag, I am Platinum with American airlines flying roughly 90 segments last year alone. I haul this bag everywhere, and expect it to hold up to the cobblestone streets of Europe or Charleston just as well as the smooth floors of an airport. Unfortunately, the handles just keep breaking. I've had one break in half, that was arguably my fault, having put it in the back of a taxi with my laptop still attached to the extended handle. The other two failures, the top portion just shears off at the top. fortunately it's not that difficult of a job, but I'm getting tired of replacing them. If I knew another two wheeled roller bag with large-diameter wheels and a similar clamshell layout, I would replace this bag in a heartbeat. Nothing sucks more than having to carry your roller bag around when it's fully loaded down for 2-3 weeks of travel.
I have one spot on the bottom corner where it has worn through the fabric, likely due to rubbing when rolling off of curbs the bag often tips over if I'm not careful, and I'm always in a rush so, frequently it may get dragged a couple feet on its side before flipping back wheels down.

The nutshell opens in the middle and you need a full room in the Hotel to open your cabin trolley, let's not talk if you go onboard a plane and you forgot something and have to open it. Pray you are in first class. Also the fact that the weight is distributed equally in the front and in the back, make it difficult to roll it on 2 wheels and after a week it was all damaged in the front corners. I am a flight attendant and I live out of a trolley so I know what is useful and practical. I therefore I wrote to customer service to tell what I think and please to improve the item. The answer was, we know what we do. Very disappointing. Also no support for reparing my new trolley. Please do no purchase it. Looks great, strong wheels but totally unpracticle.

very flimsy construction. The handle mechanism has much more play than the 10 year old bag I'm replacing. I would have returned it but
timbuk2 tricked me on the shipping charges and I didn't want to pay shipping twice to return it. I looked at warranty policy and trust they will replace the handle mechanism if it fails . Hope I am right.
Also there is no easy way to attach briefcase or backpack- most rollers have a clip or strap but this doesn't seem to- this should be standard.

This is the replacement for a dearly departed 20yr old carryon rolliecase. I travel for business and my gear just has to work. The wheels and hardware failed on my old case and the Copilot's skateboard wheels and tubular frame are awesome. Sadly, after only a few flights, the fabric is fraying and some of the sewing is beginning to looks insecure.

After a year of limited (mostly carry-on) use - this bag is worn, torn and looks terrible. I'm disappointed. The materials scuff and scratch easily - and I have two broken zippers. I do not recommend. My super-cheap roller bag fared far better than this one.

I just got this back in July. The VERY FIRST time I checked it on a trip for Thanksgiving (I didn't want to but the airline forced me), I picked up the bag from baggage claim and the handle was completely broken. The top part that you pull is completely separated from the telescopic portion on one side. Neither the airline nor Timbuk2 would take responsibility for this and I have to pay out of pocket to replace the handle after writing to both of them and waiting several weeks for a reply. Never buying Timbuk2 luggage again after this experience. It's too bad because the bag is great otherwise, but without a functional and sturdy handle I can't trust it when flying.

I am writing this review 4 months after purchase. I am already having to send my bag in for repair. I appreciate the lifetime warranty but the handle should not be completely falling off 4 months after purchase. I am extremely concerned as I will not continue to mail this bag in for repairs. When I called the technician said the handle is a common repair. Well, how about you choose a sturdier handle so repairs are needed less frequently.

I purchased this bag specifically because I love that Timbuk2 does it's manufacturing in San Francisco and puts eco-friendliness front and center in its values. Imagine my disappointment when this arrived in a box labeled "MADE IN SINGAPORE". This is probably my bad for assuming that ALL of Timbuk2's products are made in the USA, but please don't make the same mistake I did if you're looking to support domestic manufacturing or reduce your carbon footprint. Sorry to say that this has eroded my trust in this company. This will definitely make me less likely to buy from Timbuk2 in the future. :(

The bag seemed to be well made when I got it, and I was excited to use it on a 3-month trip to Europe.
On my very first flight of the trip, I retrieved it from baggage claim to find one of the axles completely bent, so the bag no longer rolls.
Now I'm all the way in Turkey with a roller suitcase that doesn't roll. We'll see if Timbuk2 makes good on this warranty with a reasonable option, given that I'm all the way out here at the start of a long trip...

I do not own one. I am just wondering whether the dimensions do not fit airline regulations. That is to say, it is bigger than airline regulations in two out of three dimensions. Then, would I get into trouble if I am requested to put it in a stainless rack at the airport?

Rollerboard handle broke pull after 18 months. Pulled it up to walk through the airport and it popped right not. Nothing different than normal; no damage, no abuse, and far from regular wear and tear. this bag is more no one other than brand conscious losers who need a cheap bag for two trips a year.

I had to leave this bag behind after 2 months (1 overseas fly trip, 2 local fly trips, and 4 train trips).
The wheel axe started to bend and I didn't add anything heavy
The side handle will start to deform the luggage
There's not stairs cover on the bottom of the handle metal and it will scratch when hit it
The bottom will bend and every time you put it down it will start tearing the fabric
The front panel will get scratched a lot until it turns light grey
Zippers brake easy
I'm using Eagle Creek compression cube sets and most of them ended up at the bottom leaving a large space at the top.
I decided to leave it behind after reading other reviews and guarantees, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get a refund even if I'm in the States. I got a S'Cure Samsonite spinner and it keeps everything in place and secure and it's easier to carrie (it doesn't hit your feet in the back when walking)
I like the brand and designs but the product needs a lot of improvement and a better guarantee.
