I really like this bag. The only issue I have encountered is because of the halves each containing part of the cargo, the bag cannot be kept on the hotel luggage rack without having to change the bag around to access each side. Or you have to move it to the bed or floor so all of your items don't fall out or become disorganized. But the space and organization are good.

My initial reactions towards the Copilot Luggage Roller:
All reactions are based off the small size they offer.
It is a very well built roller with a lot of good features. The quick access compartment on top is nice for your cables, gum, toiletries and whatever else you need to get to quickly. I like the clam shell design as often you pack things at the bottom you can't get to easily. The bag does offer very good accessibility all around. It is very sturdy and the rolling wheels are quiet. I don't think I will have to worry about the handle breaking like on some cheaper brands.
Some drawbacks - the first is my fault. I should have opted for the next size up. All the limitations I've experienced so far in my first use probably could have been avoided if I had just got the slightly larger Medium size roller. I pack 2 pairs of dress shoes, dress pants, dress shirts and also leisure clothes for 3-5 day business trips. All things considered you can fit a lot, but rigid structure doesn't allow for the same type of "stretch" in some of the more "stretchy" (for lack of a better term) rollers offer.
The biggest downside (not a deal breaker for me, but might be for others) is the initial weight of the roller. It's well built so there is added weight. Once it is fully loaded with gear, it's not a roller you can get down from the overhead easily.
I'd give it 5 stars if it wasn't as heavy, but the capacity issue was just me picking the wrong size back so that can't be a knock on Timbuk2.

Great! I purchased this in medium for work travel and its been on 2 trips. It replaced an older 'classic' carryon with a large open compartment. The Co-Pilot packs easily, great interior pockets and mesh dividers; zippers zip open/close with ease. I use the TSA Precheck, so I don't need the access to the 'liquids.' However, the top exterior compartment is roomy with great access. My favorite feature is the access from the exterior to the large front section. I pack an extra coat or jacket layer first, then retrieve it from the outside before I board. I'm a light traveller, but I can get so much MORE in this.
I would give it 5 stars, but I do miss the interior straps of my 'classic' style carryon - just to secure things in all that great space. Nothing some additional packing organizers can't fix, but I do miss a way to secure things with all that extra room. I'll be getting the small for international travel.

Used for a couple week long trips, this worked equally well for a business convention and a vacation to Hawai`i. The variable depth top pocket and the multiple ways of accessing the front chamber were especially helpful in handling different to vs from load-outs.
The bag is quite lightweight but manages to retain it's shape when stuffed full and never ever fell over even with a little push. The wobbly handle was the only issue, and meant that the roller had to be lined up properly the way you were headed before pulling (or it would bobble sideways and yank on your hand.)
Versatility and efficiency were ideal.

I LOVE this bag.
Inside separate zipper compartents are GENIUS: I love that I can zip up both halves of each side of the inside of my luggage This makes it SUPER easy for me to open the luggage quickly and get something that I need, without having to dig through ALL of my stuff - which is usually the problem I have with other luggage rollers. With the separated zipper compartments, I was easily able to keep my clean clothes separate from my dirty clothes, as well as keep toiletries super easily accessible in the mini zipper compartments. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
The wheels are SO SMOOTH: Seriously, I loved rolling this thing around everywhere. I've never had such an easy time rolling this luggage everywhere I go, including sidewalks, roads, airports, up and down small stairs, etc.
A handle ON EVERY SIDE: I can't believe other luggage rollers don't have this feature, because it seriously makes moving this thing that much easier.
The ONLY small hiccup I had while traveling with this bag was that, on 1 out of 4 US Airways flights, I was asked to check it. So, buyers beware: It IS small enough to fit in an overhead compartment (I was able to get it in very easily on 3 out of 4 flights), but if your airline is stringent, they still might not let you do it. (The woman at the desk asked me to put it in the tester thing to check its size. It fit, but it was a little snug. She decided it was too snug to be a carry on.)

I recently purchased the copilot in small. This was my first piece of luggage but I own several other timbuk2 items. I was very excited I have been debating purchasing this suitcase for a long time. First I love the way the suitcase is setup and the amount of pockets. I recently took it on a long weekend to vegas. I am not a light packer but I do use packing cubes. Everything I needed, including multiple pairs of shoes fit without an issue. I made the mistake of checking it on my way there. I was very sad when I picked up my suitcase and there was a small tear in the front of it. The material is a weird plastic/rubber like material and it did not hold up. I'm not sure what I am going to do to keep it from getting worse or happening again. On the way home I carried it on my southwest flight and it fit perfectly. The outside pocket was perfect for my liquids and easy through security. I recommend this bag as a carryon. I was considering getting a larger one as well but i'm not sure it would hold up if I had to check it. We will see.

It's great. The computer flap is really nice as so are the rollers. It feels like a quality piece of luggage.
I felt something scratching my bare legs, but didn't pay much attention, but realized I was bleeding. When I checked, the welds at the bottom had some very sharp edges. I'm on vacation, so I don't have access to a file. Now I need to be careful for 2 weeks while traveling. Otherwise, it's a nice bag.

I use the copilot 22" roller almost every day. I love the design of the bag that makes it useable and functional for stuffing lots of items into it, it rolls very easily and is very light so I'm not lugging around a bunch of extra weight, I put a timbuk2 messenger bag around the handle every time I use it. After 3 months of continuous use, the handle's extension mechanism stopped working, I sent an email to Timbuk2 and a week later I had an entirely new handle in the mail, no questions asked. They really do stand behind their products.

I love Timbuk2 products - I like the style, like that it's made in the USA and like the warranty. I get lots of compliments on my messenger bag - and sure I will on this awesome luggage too. Highly reccomend!

Everything is as I expected except that the main outside zipper is reluctant to go smoothly around the corners. I am hoping that this will relax with use. I got more stuff into it than I expected. Also, I love the smooth, silent rollers.

i bought this specifically for carry-on, and i'm afraid it might be too big for european airlines. in a few weeks i will be able to test this out. even though i checked measurements of airlines, etc, and compared your measurements to my current suitcases, it's bigger than i'd imagined. i checked the invoice a few times to make sure i'd received a S and not M size.
otherwise, no complaints after one use.

Purchased to replace a battle tested samsonite for a weeklong trip from the states to Singapore and Tokyo. Bought the medium size knowing there might be some risk in overhead compartment compatibility. Plenty of capacity including for shoes and various attire requirements in two very different climates. I had to stow the bag sideways on the outbound united airlines 777 but was able to fit it nose-in on the ANA 787 and 777 planes on the way back. Clamshell design was new for me and I'm sold on it, especially when it comes to separating laundry and shoes on a long trip. Love the super quiet wheels especially when lugging this across choppy train station floors. I also have the uptown backpack which paired well with this roller, however my only recommendation is to have timbuk2 think about making them better travel "companions" with some way to strap the backpack to the telescoping handle. Solid bag, no complaints with one international trip under its belt.

Small, easy to access external pockets for things like keys, change, and a flashlight would be a big improvement for me.

This is definitely the best luggage I've ever had and I love being able to depend on the Timbuk2 Lifetime guarantee. Unfortunately, I assume because it has very complicated construction, this is not made in San Francisco like their other bags. Not sure of any luggage like this that is made in the US however. I really love the hard clam shell back, which makes it easier to transport some stranger stuff, like my mini-PA when I am travelling for a gig. I really like the top pocket, which I use for shoes, and the little mesh pockets on the interior dividers for socks and undies. I think the pocket on the outside is supposed to be a laptop compartment, but I only use it for documents as it doesn't seem rigid/padded enough for my laptop--especially compared to the laptop compartments in my Timbuk2 backpack. I have the small size but it is a tight but so far reliable fit in the over-head bin. It fits amazing amounts of stuff inside, I think partly because of the compartments inside which help keep everything smooshed into place.

I have one of the older models in a bright green. I bought one of the new ones for my husband and its still the same great quality but we both wish there were more colors available.

Great bag! The wheels are extremely silent, and as they're set farther apart from one another, the wider stance means that this bag won't tip or wobble like narrower bags. The front flap access to the main compartment is a life-saver if you need to quickly grab a jacket or a fleece if the weather is other than expected when you get off the plane. The top front pocket is the perfect size for toiletries and makes TSA a breeze. I really like the interior zip flaps that separate the bag into two internal compartments. Only down-side to this bag is that if you don't fill it all the way up, your stuff shifts/crumples around inside because there are no interior compression straps. That's really the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Should that be the reason you don't buy this bag? Heck no!!!! It's great and I'm sure anyone would love it. Oh, also, it fits in the overhead compartment PERFECTLY, even if it's full to the brim with stuff.

Got it on sale great price for the cute fabric it was nice too see some of the limited designs at a great price. Just wish it had a few exterior pockets to throw a bus pass or gym card into, or possibly a pocket for a water bottle.

I bought this to use once or twice a year when I travel for work. It fits tons of stuff, but the outside fabric looks like it has been in a battle. After only 3 trips my spouse was asking me if we should replace it with something that looks more professional. (No, it shouldn't matter what my bag looks like, but it matters in my work)
If you're looking for something that fits a lot and is reliable, this is a great bag as long as you don't care that it looks like its ten years old after a couple of trips.

This is my second Timbuk2. My first one had many many miles and on it. Love the design, and hate the new wheels. The new wheels are definitely not as good as the original ones.

I love the Timbuk2 brand, and have purchased 2-3 products from them. High quality, great look. This luggage has the same high quality and great look.
However, luggage of this size (I have the Medium) in a clamshell design is a nightmare if you're traveling with more than one stop. It's simply too large to open and manage in small apartments or hotel rooms. It doesn't fit on the standard luggage racks in hotel rooms. It doesn't fit on a chair. You need to lie it on the floor or the bed to open it, and then you're basically stuck unpacking the whole thing. It's too tedious to "live out of" or just store things in during your stay, because it's so unwieldly to get stuff out of (or put stuff in). You have to move onto the bed or crawl down on the floor to open it.
I'm not blaming TB2 for this. It's a high quality bag, and their pictures and advertising are accurate and reliable. I did my research and bought this product seeing what I was getting. I just didn't realize what a difficult design this is to use. I've tried this on three separate trips, and I hate it. It's too expensive (and not sustainable) to simply throw away or buy a replacement - but I will be looking for ways to us one of my other existing bags when I travel.

Bought one many years ago but started showing its age so I decided to get a new one. Quality in the retractable handle and the wheels just is not the same, disappointed in this one. Good suitcase but has some issues.

I live on the road for an average of 7 or 8 months out of the year and have used this bag as my main bag while traveling for weeks on end
I typically pack around 10 to 12 days worth of clothes in it, the average weight of the bag loaded is 42 to 45 lbs
That being said I have gone through one set wheels ,first the wheel sheared off. Now I currently have a groove in each wheel where the wheel is being cut from the point of a screw that is used to mount the wheel assembly to the bag
The bag needs a handle or grab strap on the bottom to help when loading into a vehicle
When the bag is loaded and you close it to zip it up, the top section is so soft it collapses on itself, making it difficult to zip
I also find the mesh dividers kind of a pain in you use them to store extra items in them
Lastly when you open the bag,the flap for the front access panel will get creased if you don't take your time and smooth it out as it is laying there
Does it hold a lot and look good, yes
Is the shoe pocket on top handy, yes
Is the front flap nice to access last minute items, yes
Unfortunately I think there are more negatives than pros for the bag especially at the price point
