I use this a a daily gear bag for biking and skiing, and will use it for road trips. I'm impressed with the quality of materials and workmanship.
One cool feature would be to be able to snap or velcro the stuff sack into the interior (left end) for smaller items like hats and gloves. It's already the shape of the bag, and if the solid side were a little more stout, it would hold its shape nicely. TNF - if I can help, I'd be happy to.

I used this duffel bag for my most recent weeklong stay in Cancun and had absolutely no issues. It was easy to carry around and the backpack straps can be used as a single shoulder strap to carry it like a traditional duffel back if you'd like. My only complaint was that because the bag I purchased was orange, it dirtied pretty easily, but thats also because I checked the bag with my airline.

Great product for the most part, but still missing the mark unfortunately...
Thanks for finally carrying the white option again (black or any other colour absolutely cooks on the dock or deck of a boat in the Caribbean sun), but TNF needs to have an option to easily attach a telescopic handle and large wheels.
The duffel-style roller luggage bags that TNF offers are terrible, as they don't pack down enough for stowing (defeats the whole purpose of having a rolling duffel bag!) due to the bottom framework when standing tall, and there's no shoulder straps if you need to carry it like a backpack. The newest ones also have many bad reviews with respect to quality - especially the telescopic handles which have been reported to bend or break easily.
Why can't any of the self professed outdoor companies get it right with their bag designs?! Seems like such an easy thing to get right.

This is THE duffel to buy if you know you are going to subject it to some abuse and want to be sure it can take the abuse. It CAN. Yes, the zippers are a little stubborn, but they are bomber. Some people might think the shoulder straps are a lightweight; but they are practically identical to those of another premium brand. There are daisy chain loops right next to the shoulder strap connections if you want to substitute a single, heavier diagonal shoulder strap. The end pocket is a terrific new addition to this classis design. For gym use, those manky shoes come out and your approach/street shoes go in. Holds my climbing gear and a change of clothes. For travel, the 71 liter size perfectly bridges the gap between the 60 and 90 liters sizes of the other premium brand. You might want to consider getting this in an inobtrusive color, so as not to attract the attention of the TSA or your airline re:size.

Great product! A little stiff when you initially use it but that's more of the high quality material.

Use to carry rescue equipment. Need to access interior with out fighting handles dangling in the way. Removed side handles were convenient but now gone...

My girlfriend loves this bag. It has so many colors to choose from so I picked the green and brown one. It's what I expected from the photos. The size is almost just right for her 5'3" petite frame. It's maybe a tiny bit large. I'm 5'5" and it's just right for me. Fits all of her gear very well. It's heavy enough to be durable and of quality, but still light. We're about to trek around Austria, Hungary, and Romania for 2 weeks so I'll be back to report on it when we return and possibly pick up a duffel for myself! My only con is that the backpack straps aren't as padded, long, or secure as you might get from a backpacking gear. It would be nice if it had that for added comfort as well as a couple latches/clasps that you could buckle to keep it tight around your waste and chest. Either way it's a GREAT looking bag. Can't wait to really put it to the test.

This is a high quality, solid duffel bag. Water resistant, and provides a huge amount of space -easily enough for a few weeks of gear.
It's slightly too large to carry on when flying, so it would have been nice if it had zippers you could padlock -it does not. You'll also need to take the backpack straps off when checking, which takes some time, and then re-attach them if you're carrying it on your back.
They're both small oversights, but end up being a bit frustrating given it's an otherwise fantastic bag.

For a trip to cancun with 2 kids, I used 1 medium and 2 small sized duffels. All our stuff for the 7 day adventure, plus extra stuff for wedding clothes, accessories and shoes, fit beautifully. Very sturdy, stands out on the baggage carousel. Both sizes fit great as carry on in the overhead bins. Note that the medium was not filled to absolute full capacity, otherwise would possibly not fit, especially if traveling on a smaller jet. Loved the bag and the ease of travel with a "backpack", especially when running through an airport to make a connecting flight. My only complaint was that the shoulder straps would be exponentially more comfortable if they were padded. It made standing in those long airport lines a pain, especially with the medium. The small sizes didn't bother as much as they simply hold less weight, but TNF should look into padding the medium and larger sizes due to the additional weight they can allow you to carry.

High quality, however the bag appears more aesthically pleasing in the pictures, heavy to begin with (if weighed during travel it can become an issue) Also, the back pack style straps can be handy but I think providing a full duffle bag style strap as possibly an attachment option would be very useful.

I was concerned about buying this product based on the reviews about not having a carrying handle on the shoulder straps. However, I prefer to carry a bag on my back so I thought I would manage regardless. The main reason I chose this bag was because it has the capacity of luggage without the invonvenience of a rolling suitcase. When I opened the box, I was so pleased with the size. It was exactly the size I needed for a trip to Norway for two weeks. I have not used the bag yet but I am so excited to do so. I think I'll be able to pack everything I need with room for extra. So far, I'm a really happy customer. The medium size is bigger than what you would need for a weekend but smaller than a large hard sized suitcase.

I travel a lot for work and this bag is great to hold all of my necessities for the trip. I have a trip to Asia coming up and I plan on taking this bag as my carry on (I purchased a size medium, which is a little too big for domestic flights, but if you don't fill it to its' capacity you can usually take it on the flight). The quality is great! The only thing that would make this bag perfect would be to have the handles so that you could hold it like a duffel instead of a backpack.

The medium base camp duffel is versatile enough that it can be used for just about anything, and classic enough that it can be used as business luggage. The quality is good, and all the features on it have function, there aren't too many frills.

I bought this bag to hold my rain/winter gear for work. I work on movies and television and you always need to be ready for whatever the day throws at you. This bag allows me to keep all my weather gear dry so it's always ready to use.

This is a perfect travel duffel. It will easily survive years of airplanes, cars, buses, mules, etc. Slick black or styling colors, either way you'll find yours easily on the luggage carousel or pile of gear.
My only grip is the shoulder straps. Other brands have quick-release shoulder straps and NF needs to add this feature to this bag. It's a total hassle to have to unthread four webbing strap buckles to get the straps off while you're holding up an airport line. I almost bought another brand simple because of the straps. It's time NF, add bomber shoulder strap quick-releases and this would get 6 stars (or of 5).

These North Face Base Camp Duffels are tops when it comes to durability. I bought two-- the medium and the small. I previously had two Patagonia Black Hole Duffels of the same size equivalents. I prefer the Base Camp's tougher fabric and neutral earth tones over Patagonia's gaudy bright-colored fabrics with a plastic-like coating. The Base Camp feels like it's made from the material they make river rafts out of. I haven't scratched or scuffed one yet, and I've tried!
I'm deducting two stars, though, because the zippers are hard to work. They keep catching and jamming up instead of gliding smoothly-- and no, there is no fabric is caught in them. Also, the AVIATOR NAVY is **NOT** BLUE!!! I realize that there is a degree of color distortion on computer screens, but these duffels don't even resemble blue. At first I thought they had mistakenly sent me the wrong color, but the tags on the bags confirmed that this was indeed the color I had ordered. Under normal indoor lighting and out in sunlight, Aviator "Navy" is a dark charcoal gray. I actually called North Face and complained about this. If they want to sell this color, fine, but please describe it accurately. I asked the customer service rep how they managed to make the photos of this color look blue? She said they shoot their pictures with powerful spotlights. So be forewarned that if you choose the Aviator Navy hoping to get dark navy blue, you're in for a disappointment, unless you can store the duffel under a spotlight. North Face did reimburse me 10% of my purchase price for this disappointment.

I love this bag. Bought it to replace my old design and it is still my favorite duffle on the market. I bought my first in 2014 and absolutely loved the backpack straps and side handles. I'm a little disappointed with the lack of side handles. I like the carry strap but wish the handles were still on the side.

GREAT CAPACITY AND STYLISH. HOWEVER, YHERE SHOULD BE A SHOULDER STRAP INSTEAD OF THE BACKPACK STRAPS.

The capacity is great and use it for work and travel. However, when carried like a backpack, it feels uncomfortable. The bottom end crushes down when it's not filled. I'm sure the bag will position nicely on your back when the bag is full. It's still a good bag.
