shoe was very narrow.

This is a great shoe if you're lucky enough to find a pair that has been through quality control. Ordering blind, without seeing or trying on the item seems to be more problematic. In the case of the pair I ordered there was a large irregular patch of leather on one of the uppers --a kind of skunk stripe affair that stretched from the tongue halfway to the toe. It was too glaring to ignore. The fit was also different than when I tried these on last year in a Red Wing store; much stiffer in the tongue area and the ankle. Zappos was offering a really good price, so I'm pretty disappointed I had to send them back. At this point I'd be very wary of ordering Red Wings online, unfortunately.

I'm in between sizes and where a 10 in some shoes and 9.5 in others. I tried this in 10 and it was too big and 9.5 and was too small. The size 10 looked nice and were reasonably comfortable but too big. The 9.5s had leather that was darker, very stiff and very uncomfortable.

I opened the box box and two different sizes were delivered.

These were impressively uncomfortable. I had to send them back. Bummer.

Husband was very happy with these. Made with quality leather that will break in well and matches everything.

Husband loves these. I was worried the copper rough & tough color would be too dark--darker than what I usually prefer, anyway--but they aren't. These shoes go with everything and are made of quality leather that is going to break in very nicely.

Purchased a 10.5. Received a 10.0. Now item is OOS and I’m out of luck

Great fit.

This is a great shoe! I’ve worn it a few days and the leather has broken in nicely. I can suspect it’ll only get better with time. The color is a bit lighter than I was expecting but nothing to complain about. A great shoe to dress up/down. I bought a half size smaller based on recommendations and it fit me perfectly!

Great looking boot and I find it very comfortable. It's a bit roomy but that's good for me because I typically put more supportive insoles in. That's also why the lack of arch support isn't a huge issue for me. But if you don't add an insole it may not have enough support for you. I have had no issues with the eyelets as a few other people talked about. But I don't lace these very tight so maybe that's why I haven't had any issues with the eyelets.

My husband is very picky about his boots. He finally decided to spring for these. Definitely worth it. He loves them.

You can’t go wrong with red wings. They are durable and very high quality. Perfect casual boot or can be dressed up.

Sizing is a bit wonky but so far they are a great boot! I wear a 11.5 in just about everything from dress shoes to adidas... I need a size 10 in these. Once that was worked out, initial impressions are high.

I love these boots. Excellent build quality and the leather is very nice. Breaks in quickly and very comfortable soles. Previously had Johnston & Murphy chukkas with natural rubber soles but these rubber soles are way better. J&M’s were borderline crumbly. Would highly recommend. Worth the money because they can be re-soled by your local cobbler.

Other websites I had researched this boot on said to order a half size smaller, and that was spot on. Took a couple of days to truly break in as the leather is really nice quality, albeit a bit stiff. Now they feel like I've worn them forever. They develop a nice patina as the leather flexes and wears in. All in all, super happy.

Too small size down

A nice chukka, I have been trying to find a good desert-style boot for a long time, and I am pretty happy with these. The leather is nice and thick, the removeable insole a plus, the color (Muleskinner) goes well with jeans, khakis, navy trousers, even dress-down a summer suit. These are comfortable for walking on pavement and other surfaces, and the shape is pretty close to classic. I find Clarks are much too narrow, where this feels true to size and width. Some suggest sizing Redwings down, so I tried both my usual 10 and a 9.5. I could fit in the 9.5, but found it hard to get on and off. The arch support is mostly a result of the stiffness of the leather (that breaks in) and the insole, so if you need a lot, you might need a different insert. The suede is much thicker than on other desert boots (maybe full-grain?). These feel much more durable, but are not as cool and breathable in warm weather. As a result, Redwings need much more breaking in, but have become comfortable and good-looking with some wear. Some minor quibbles: I would prefer real crepe to this odd molded-foam look alike, and a proper heel. I am not sure this sole will be much more durable, and it is no better on wet surfaces, it also does not look resoleable. The laces are slightly absurd: much too-stiff and too-brightly colored: they look like workboots. I will replace them with flexible laces in a more subtle color for the way I wear these shoes.

Returned my true size for half size lower. Seem to be well constructed, but not really comfortable. They are OK for limited walking, but lack of arch support and lack of padding under the ball of foot make them uncomfortable if standing or walking much. Certainly there are many more comfortable boots for lower cost.

I tried size 110 which is my normal size and it was a little roomy in width and length. Then I tried a 9-1/2 and it was too tight. Also, the seem on the inside of the shoe in front of the outer heel side dug into my foot. The coloration of the pieces of leather on the second pair I tried was too different from the rest of the shoe.

Shoe was not comfortable at all out of the box. For the price it should be much more comfortable.

So these shoes are very nice in terms of fit and comfort ability but they are wearing poorly. After 3 days they look terrible. Really strange creases all over, honestly they loose their shape immediately! For a show of this price I’m very disappointed. Also I’m a size 11 US and had to grab a 10, which is still roomy.
