I asked about the shaft circumference before ordering since I have 16" calves. Zappos said it was 16.5" so I figured I'd try them. The boot only zipped up half way! I'm an 8-8.5 and purchased the 8.5. They felt true to size, but were really stiff to get on. I didn't feel much arch support and the footbed didn't cradle my foot well, feeling quite stiff as well. The leather is beautiful in person! And the lace-up is a great touch. I wanted to love this boot but it's going back.

With regards to sizing, be aware that the circumference of the shaft of these boots (in a size 8.5) is approximately 14.5 inches (not 16.5). They are snug on my leg, but have a little elastic on the side to allow for a stretch as you break them in. The boot itself is slightly narrow around the foot, but I'm hoping a little wear will soften them up as well and make them less restricting. As far as style goes, unlike the pictures, the lace detail ties in a bow (rather than a flat laced appearance). I like bows, but this is a little obtrusive because it doesn't sit flat or tie into a pretty bow. I'm actually considering tying them off in a knot and cutting the tie short to make it look more like the picture. All in all, I like the boots, they appear to be good quality, and I'm keeping them.

Love these boots, my feet are narrow so they fit me well. I got the 9.5 and the circumference is just shy of 15”, and the height was perfect! Very happy with this purchase.

These are beautiful boots and fit exactly to size. I wear an 8 1/2 and that is what I ordered. I wanted the calf to fit snug around my calf for skinny tucked in jeans and they are perfect. The leather is soft and the little tie detail is a nice touch. The "shoe" part feel secure with no slipping and there is not slouching in the ankle. I wore them around the house for one day but I knew I was keeping them the moment I put them on. Love them.

A beautiful boot with such potential but nearly impossible to put on.

These boots came up when I searched for wide shaft boots, but I could not even get them zipped more than halfway. There is a slightly stretchy part at the top, but that doesn't help if you can't get them zipped up that far. Also, the heel area is very stiff and seems it would be uncomfortable for prolonged walking. To me, the leather looked cheap, I kept checking to see if it was listed as real leather, rather than fake leather. Still, I probably would have kept them and tried conditioning the leather...if I could have zipped them.

These are narrow at the ankle but bow way out on the back of the calf. If you have skinny ankles but wide calves they would be perfect! You can tighten at the top of the calf but then it looks really funny. Too bad because the foot is really comfortable.

So sad I have to return these. I was hoping the other reviews were incorrect as to the heel fit. I couldn't get my foot in, because of the way the zipper and heel were. They are beautiful boots though. Also, the lace in the back is tied with a bow, which is not shown in the picture. That is awkward too.

I ordered this boot thinking since it listed a larger circumference that it would work for my larger calves. I was never even able to tell if it would zip up all the way since I couldn't fit my entire foot in the boot to begin with because of the in-step. I do have a high in-step and run into this issue with strappy shoes mostly, but the in-step on this boot is particularly low.

I couldn't even get my foot into this boot. What's baffling about it is the fact that I wear a 9 and I ordered a 9.5 to accommodate my thicker winter socks. It's hard to explain but it's like the part over the heel has NO give and I cannot push me feet in because it's so stiff. It's not pliable like the part that wraps around your calf. Very bizarre. Shame since I love Steve Madden Boots. PLEASE BRING BACK THE CREATION BOOT!!! This was my favorite boot ever in life. Hindsight being 20/20..if I knew then what I know now I would have bought 6 pair of the Madden Creation boots to last me forever. *Sigh*
