Amazing trail running shoe, I would not say these are suitable for hiking unless you are on a paved or dirt hiking path because the sole is not as stiff and much thinner than a regular hiking boot/shoe. I feel like I would feel every pebble and rock under my foot. Was tempted to keep these for outdoor running here FL since they are Gortex but I already bought my Asics Gel-Nimbus from Zappos for that and those are my absolute favorite running shoe (like running on clouds). Perfect fit out of box, great for my high arch and narrow foot, quality show as always with Merrell.

These seem like they would be a great shoes - they just didn't fit my feet. The arch support and construction are great, as are the soles - very grippy. The shoes are roomy and seem pretty true to size (though maybe a little short??). Love the dark color. I'm also trying the non-Goretex version - it fits a bit differently so I'm hoping to keep that pair. I'm already a size 11 so going bigger in these isn't an option; plus, I feel like these were the correct size. Just not for me...

I'm wearing these around house on rug at the moment to make sure but these are not only exactly the vibrant colors depicted but live up to Merrell standards. Which I may say had slipped some in last few years... I'm keeping all 3 pairs of Merrells in this order. A breeze and an encore slide. The slide is part leather and creaks a bit but they fit beautifully. Yay

The fit for me is great - the heel is just snug enough and the toe box is wide. These are very lightweight and according to my husband - very snazzy! I wore them in the house for 2 days, decided I would try them on my 2 mile regular walk and they were comfortable. It's so hard to find great walking shoes that are waterproof - these fit the bill without being bulky. I did put other non-custom orthotics in them that I've found to be a little more supportive. I appreciate that Merrell does not glue their insoles to the shoe. I'm very happy with these fruitpunch BRIGHT shoes.

I ordered the MQM Flex in both the GTX and the regular style in size 10.5 (half size larger than my usual size) and the GTX was much larger than the other style . My foot (which is wide in the forefoot) was swimming in the GTX. The MQM Flex without GoreTex fit beautifully and I love them!

I ordered these for walking on trails, thru wet grass, and lite hiking. Like other reviewers stated, they seemed huge in the toe area at first. I did walk around my house and to my surprise they were great after I got used to the roomy toe area. I use orthotics and they fit with no problem in these. The only reason I returned this shoe is there is no real support in the front of the shoe. The ball of the foot sits on a very thin sole (not including depth of tread), so what looks like cushioning from the outside is not really there. I can’t imagine they would be protective of rocks or pebbles on a trail. They are supportive in the back but super flexible in the front which may be great for climbing rocks and such but for hiking or walking there is not enough fore foot support for me. Great style tho, love the look, the tread is grippy but just no cushion in the front. I would say to order your regular size and one half smaller to see what works for you. Thanks Zappos for great service.

OK I am giving a 4 not 5 because I ALWAYS wear a 6 and needed a 5.5 and was still plenty roomy (this will be good if I want to wear really thick socks and was fine tightened up w regular socks). I wore these essentially out of the box (bc I first ordered a 6 then had to wait for the 5.5 to come just before our trip) on a rainy/cold 6 mi hike in Mt Rainier NP. These shoes were great! Comfortable, dry, held up well. I would definitely recommend!

I really love these shoes, but they are made for wide feet. I have "normal" width feet, but these shoes are extra wide in the mid-foot and in the toe.

Nice stylish and comfortable shoes. Used in Sedona for moderate hikes. Not like other hiking shoes, they are not heavily padded inside (which I prefer). They are roomie, I am a 7.5/8 and got the 7. Without the extra padding, hiking socks felt super comfortable inside.

So yes this shoe is getting a decent review, but I am returning it. It's getting an overall good rating because the look, style, colors, GTX and feel of this shoe were all great, I am returning because the right shoes felt defective. My right pinky toe felt like it was falling and being shoved into the right-hand corner of the shoe. I bet in a month the pinky toe on the right foot would wear a hole right through the shoe. It also made it feel like electrical shocks in my pnky, assuming it was because it was being pushed so far into the shoe. I was very bummed because this is a great looking shoe and GTX.

These run very wide - I normally wear a 6.5 D or E and these fit perfectly. I put in my own insoles because the Merrill arch support is poor. I wore these out of the box on very long rocky hikes and they were comfortable. The waterproof feature was tested in drenching rain - my feet stayed dry.

I have already rated this shoe but I wanted to make an important comment. If this shoe squeaks try putting baby powder in the bottom of the shoe after taking out the inner(removable) sole. So far...the "squeaking" I had been noticing with every step...stops by using the baby powder!

Ordered my usual size 7 and it fit as expected. One problem I had was with the tongue. It rubbed the top of my foot, but once bending it and loosening it, the shoe felt comfortable. I wear light hiking socks with them for hiking and walking. So far they work great.

I'm normally not too picky with athletic shoes as I only exercise moderately and mostly wear the shoes for work. This pair was very cute and flattering. Exactly as pictured. They were just not very comfortable. Had very little cushion and support. I'm getting older and when I jog my shins hurt when wearing the wrong shoes. I just don't trust these to take the impact. Will be returning.

These shoes are really masculine, I ordered my usual 9 (running shoe size) and I could have used an 8.

I love the look but had to return. These are big and wide and the tope of the shoe poufs up in a strange way. Maybe better for someone with very wide feet?

I have smaller end of bunions which is why I ordered these. The toe box is TOOO roomy. Cute style, my normal size fit, feet stayed dry, but the wrinkled toe box killed me.

I ordered these to replace a pair of the same style that I bought a couple years ago. I loved the old ones and wore them a lot both at home and traveling - they had plenty of room in the toe area but were very comfortable. The new pair was markedly different than the old pair. While the length feels ok, the rest of the shoe feels very wide and just overall big. My foot moves not only back and forth, but up and down, and I can't lace them tight enough to fit well. I'm sending them back and will try a different style.

The reviews stating this shoe runs large is just not true. I am a true size 7 and have always worn size 7 in Merrell. My toes were hitting the top of this shoe. Also, they just feel awkward, it doesn't feel anything like the Merrill MQM flex (without Gore-tex) which is really disappointing. It would have been worth the extra cost to have the breathable waterproof feature to use these for summer had they fit well like other Merrells.

These feel too big. I've worn many pairs of Merrells before, and this shoe is different. I even tried two pairs of this same sneaker in my regular size (8.5) to see if the problem was some kind of fluke. I'm not sure if it's overall too big, or there's just too much room in the toe area.

The fit was way off on these shoes . The toe was real boxy and when you tightened the laces you had this extra shoe that looked out of place and had extra material on top. Just walked around the house and these shoes were not comfortable. Really disappointing , I was looking for a real good trail shoe that was colorful. Sorry zappos I am sadly returning them.

I ordered the 8 as per Zappos’ recommendation — too big (just for reference: I wear a size 8 in Asics Gel-Nimubs 18). The overall look of the shoe is cute, however, the material felt cheap and the footbed wasn’t padded or anything — certainly not what I would expect from a pair of shoes that’s almost $150! The fit wasn’t spectacular either. The sides of the show were really low under my medial/lateral ankle and didn’t offer much support despite adding my custom orthotics. Pro: it had a decent toe box with enough room to wiggle your toes. I wanted these as a “nicer” option opposed to regular sneakers for an upcoming Europe trip while walking on cobblestone walkways. I had to return them.

Very disappointed! These shoes are cute but the fit was really off. I normally wear a size 9 and usually have to size up in Merrell, but these shoes, marked size 9 were easily a 9.5 which made the toes box even wider. My foot swam around inside and also pronated in this shoe which makes me think they are defective. Sadly I am returning them.

Sizes are nor consistent between styles. These were at least a 9.5 or 10.
