Good option for a zero drop/wide toe box casual shoe. I'm a 12.5 in the Timp and Lone Peak, factoring in about a thumbnail width for running/hiking downhill. I think these should fit more like a street shoe (which I wear in a 12) so I suggest ordering your "street" size. These have less cushion than the afore mentioned models but are more like vans with better shape/support and are comfortable. The only negatives I see is that they have a bit of the "clown shoe" look with the thin tapered ankle and big toe box...but of course, we're getting these primarily for support/positioning. I also worry the fabric around the toe won't keep shape and will have a wrinkled look over time. This happened with my old Lone Peaks but it seems Altra is addressing this on newer models by adding stiffer caps. Perhaps this model will benefit from some toe cap reinforcement in the next version.

These are great sneakers for everyday wear! I've finally worn down the soles enough that I need a new pair, and I plan to buy them again if I can find a pair. I didn't experience the problems that other people had with heel irritation, so I've found them to be very comfortable the whole time I've had them. I can do hours of walking or standing in them without any foot or pain at the end of the day, and they are also very breathable and don't make my feet feel sweaty. The only thing I would like better is if the sole was more durable. It's acceptable as is, but now that we live in the age of Vibram my expectations are a little higher.

Great looking, and comfortable shoe. As others said, the heel is a little rough at first, but softens up after a couple days of wearing it. I bit of padding around the heel would probably be nice. The toe box is a bit wider than it really needs to be, but I love having it. It not very warm (wore it out last night in 20 degree weather, and wind cuts right through it, but all that being said, this is a great spring/summer/fall shoe. I've been looking for a casual zero-drop shoe that looks good enough to wear to work and around town, and this fits the bill perfectly. Love the green color.

Yes, I too had the aforementioned heel problem-but that lasted for just a bit and they have turned into a great casual shoe-lightweight, well cushioned, and stylish. I now own 3 pair.... Now, I'm waiting on a Altra zero drop dress shoe...Altra has hooked me on the zero drop lifestyle, I feel they owe us that!

I have some of your trail running shoes and thought I would try these. They are incredibly comfortable. Can you please make more colors in this style? Also, how about some winter low cut 'boots' along these lines (same general idea but a little sturdier, warmer with some weather proofing but still breathable)? Thanks for your great products.

These are perfect for casual, everyday use. They're super comfortable, look good, and have the benefit of zero-drop. I'm very impressed by the cloth/knit upper material...it's very form-fitting with no bulk and is incredibly comfortable. It fits my foot like a second skin. This shoe is everything I hoped it would be and more. I LOVE them!

Bought these as I am a big Altra fan, and wanted an everyday shoe that I could wear, yet be plush enough so that my feet wouldn't be dead after long runs. These shoes fit that profile immediately. I'll certainly be purchasing these again once these wear out.

I put this shoe on, stood up, and said "wow". My wife heard me and said "what is wow?" I said "these shoes, they are surreal, wow" She said "I wish I had a pair of shoes that made me say wow" All that to say the fit, the feel, the look of this shoe are all wow worthy. I am very comfortable putting on my slacks and sport jacket in the black color of this shoe and very comfortable working at a sit/stand desk all day in them as well. Awesome to have ventilated and comfortable shoes that have an athletic fit without all the associated athletic branding. Well done Altra, well done!

Color: Green; Size: 11.5. The shoe performs as I hoped, as I was looking for an active/casual shoe. I had two criteria: 1) Stack height similar to my Superior 3.5s, with a little more cushion for pavement. 2) Tread pattern that provides equally good traction whether on or off road, including wet grass. Toe box is slightly wider than other Altra shoes I own. However, since it is not designed for running, I consider this acceptable. Although I will break into an occasional jog in them. ;) I mostly wear these either to work (office), with daily walk breaks; or to take my 65lb boxer/bulldog mix on an adventure (stalking and chasing prey) in our neighborhood. So, for me, you might consider these my cross-trainers.

This is the most comfortable shoe in the world, as I wrote in a review before. My shoes started to squeak after walking thru some snow. I thought I'd ruined them! Then someone told me to put shoe powder underneath the insert. Worked like a charm! It's been months now, no recurrence of the squeak. I can't recommend these shoes more strongly.

I bought two pairs, and I am planning for a third. I have been using Altra Escalante and Turin for running, so this is my first time with this model. This is the kind of shoes you put on and can wear all day long with no discomfort at all. I walked for several hours with it, and I have never felt uncomfortable. Having said that, my wife had issues on the back of her heels. I think that the stitching on the back can bother a lot of people. No problem from my side, but I always wear socks wit it.

These are my go-to shoes, I wear them almost every day. I just ordered a second pair. Yes, at first I had the same issue with the back rubbing my heel, I just make sure to wear crew socks. (I found ankle socks wouldn't stay up and then the shoe rubbed my heel.) Altras are must-haves for anyone suffering from morton's neuroma. My only wish is that Altra could make dress shoes, hiking boots, snow boots, and ski boots!!

24/7 kinda shoes! The knit cowling makes for ease of donning. I'm stock piling these, wouldn't want to be shoeless. .

I've had problems with painful and burning neuroma in both feet (diabetes related) Got a pair of orthopedic shoes and inserts which made the problem worse. I removed the orthotics and shoe inserts and things got better. I tried a pair of zero drop shoes and loved them. These Altra Vali shoes are my "ahhhhh" pair with just enough cushion to make me comfortable almost all day and hopefully things will get even better. They are a bit challenging to get on but the narrow heal and way they wrap around the ankle is perfect for my feet.

I gave this a 5 star review because when I gave it a 2 star review, Altra decided to delete my comments. I have 8 pairs of Altra shoes--several for running, some for work, and some for around the house. I love these Valis, but--after I loved them for months as a super comfortable shoe--they started to squeak. It annoyed me and my wife and friends commented. I've done everything I can think of to get rid of the squeak and I've Googled solutions and tried all of them. But they still squeak. I won't wear them any more, even though they are in great shape. (If Altra would be willing to inspect them to find the design flaw, I'd be happy to contribute them--no replacement requested or expected. I'll even cover the shipping costs. Hey, Altra, you've got my email address.)

I have several pairs of Altra shoes. I love the wider toe box. Some might think they look a little dorky, but having great feeling feet is more important.

I really like these shoes. I have had several pairs of Altra, Newton, ASICS, Brooks, etc. and these are perfect for knocking around town. Nice look. Think the comfort and Flex of a Nike Free-like shoe but with better toe box and better construction.

I got a pair of Vali's to use as my everyday shoe. I had previously worn the One V3 for that purpose, but they look like a running shoe and not a casual shoe. I work in NYC and on average take anywhere from 10K-20K steps during a workday, so I need a performance shoe. The Vali has filled that void in my life. So comfortable, looks great with a pair of jeans or khakis, and doesn't look like a pair of running shoes but has the feel of a performance shoe. My only wish is that Altra will make a "winter" version that can stand up to colder temps, bc the shoe is very breathable and breezy. Seriously though, this shoe is a winner. If you had been holding back bc you weren't sure if they would be the right mix of performance and casual, don't hesitate, get a pair. Perfect for the Spring and summer months, but if it's cold out we'll all have to wait on the Vali "Winter Edition."

This shoe had a LOT of bad reviews online -- all complaining about the heel rubbing. I had the exact same experience; in fact, these shoes hurt my feet horribly the first time I put them on. The trick, though, is to let the shoe be loose around the heel, and not tie it tightly (normally). Removing the laces from an eyelet or two also helps with heel tightness. OnceI did this, the shoe became perfect; it's probably the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn, and by far my favorite Altra shoe. It also manages to look fairly stylish -- which is a real feat given the shape of the toebox. Also, Altra, please make this in a NAVY BLUE, pretty please?

Love them! Just as pleased with these everyday shoes as I am with my runners. They're especially nice to wear after a long run, instead of squeezing my feet into traditional shoes.

My feet are always happiest in open toe sandals. The Vali has those same space and freedom. I just finished a month long tour of Asia - Macau, Cambodia and Viet Nam. Lots of walking over rough paths and climbing up stairs. My feet were so comfortable in the men's Vali.
