I am not a runner but I use these shoes for daily use/hiking/exercise. My first superior was the 1.5 which I liked. The next version I tried was the 2.5 which did not work. The toe box wasn't as roomy and generally felt more narrow overall. I just got the 3.5 and the fit is very good for me... very comfortable. I still find ordering a 1/2 size larger works best for me in the superior.

I had a problem with the shoe pressing on the big toe joint at the foot (metatarsal-phalange joint) tot he point of pain. Tried a second pair, same problem. I had to return. Otherwise, I loved the shoe.

I've been an Altras customer for some years now, but I concur with previous comments that something is quite wrong with the upper. It wore a hole in the top of my left foot and caused regular pain.

Although it’s a zero drop shoe, there is a high arch in the middle, which isn’t my preference, kinda feels like you’re standing on a rainbow

Purchased these after lone peak 3's wore out (yeah of backpacking and running) and the lone peak 3.5 rubbed my second toe more due to my second toe being longer than my big toe. These fit better and were comfortable and didn't rub my toe. Well, about 100+/- miles backpacking and 20 miles running and these things are toast in about 3 months of use. Loved em, but they're torn up now, tread is worn, toebox stiching is failing in a few spots and the cushion is just not there anymore. Had higher hopes, maybe the lone peak 4 has a better toebox for my long second toe, definitely beat my feet up on the last backpacking trip I went on and then finished a 5.5 mile run today and they cushioning just didn't feel there. Bummed. Would recommend if you're only trail running, but don't expect them to hold up to hitting any serious miles backpacking.

Tried both the lone peak 3.5 and these and did some research on reviews. Short story is they both do the same thing; these may be more applicable for shorter runs but I definitely think if you’re gonna buy one of the two, buy the lone peak 3.5. They are far more comfortable and will be better for longer runs. Spend the extra $20 or whatever it is for the comfort.

Nice style, but definitely narrower than some other models, such as Altra Provision and Altra Torin 3.0 (Torin being the widest in the toe area so far). I have tried 4 Altra shoes so far (men's Superior, Torin and Provision and women's Torin) and they are all 1 to 1 1/2 sizes too small. However, even in a larger size, I can tell that this model would still be too narrow. I love the quality and flexibility of all the Altra models I have tried so far. The zero drop really seems to be extra supportive in the arch compared to other brands. At a competitive price.

Due to my adoration of the Escalante 1.5 I thought the Superior 3.5 would be an optimal trail running shoe. Thought wrong. The first pair offered an odd, painful compression at the base of the tongue despite multiple lacing configurations. I returned them and ordered a second, identical pair to test whether or not it was a one-off fluke. Nope, same issue. Returning those as well. I love the zero-drop, wide toe-box design of Altra shoes, yet this construction problem (coupled with a seam separation on a fresh-out-of-the-box pair of Lone Peak 4s) just reeks of shoddy construction and inferior quality. Bummer!

Compared to Superior v2.0, after about 100 miles of hiking & backpacking: + great heel cup. good snug fit + rand around front has solved the problem of the upper parting from the sole around the toe area +/- still not quite wide enough for EE fitting at the ball of the foot - much thicker mid-sole, feels more like a Lone Peak - squishing around on cotton wool. - mid-sole is not dense enough (or resistant enough) leading to full compression of the padding under the balls of my feet, especially under big toe after only 50 miles. - mid-sole compression caused over pronation & consequent knee pain. - out-sole unit is fairly worn already. Overall, very disappointed.
