After much searching for a new backpack after mine finally gave out after years of heavy use, I found this backpack by Vera Bradley. It had several of the things that were on my "must-have" list, in order for it to work for both travel and school. My must-haves: 1. Needs lots of pockets, compartments, or zippered areas. 2. Needs to be high quality. 3. Needs to be cute, especially if I am going to be using it as much as my old one. I really liked the purple print of the Lavender Meadow colorway and so that's the one I ordered. I watched some videos regarding this backpack, one of which was by Zappos, and those really helped me to get a feel for the size and the inside of the backpack. The multiple photos on Zappos also helped me figure out how it would look on a person in a glance without pulling out the measuring tape. One of the things that really sold me was the dedicated laptop zipper compartment towards the back of the packpack. Not only is it padded on the sides and front and back, it is also padded on the bottom, which is great if you forget you've got your laptop in there and accidentally set your bag down a little too hard. It also has a headphone cord grommet to slip your cord through, padded shoulder straps, and a zipper compartment big enough to fit a standard (not large) Happy Planner in perfectly. There is a clear ID slot in the second front pocket, 4 pencil/pen slots (big enough to probably fit a normal Sharpie in), and several little pockets also in the part where you can fit a Happy Planner. The trolley sleeve also worked on my suitcase. The bottom of the backpack is completely padded with a foam maybe about 3/16" or 1/4" thick. The zipper pulls are made of (faux?) leather, which I think makes it look classy. I hadn't noticed it in the images online, but I like them! Something I didn't notice while looking at the pictures on Zappos were the bright little ladybugs hidden in the Lavender Meadow print, along with cute bees. The lining is white with red ladybugs sprinkled on it. Most inside seams are bound in the Lavender Meadows fabric. The front zipper on this backpack is metal, but the other ones are plastic/nylon from what I can tell. There are two elasticized pockets on either side of the backpack and they are about 6" deep--you could probably carry a water bottle in them. Also, the background of the Lavender Meadow fabric is *not* bright white like it looked like online. It's a few notches dimmer than bright white, but I think that will lend well to not looking dirty as quick as bright white would. It still looks cute and doesn't ruin it for me. I haven't filled the backpack up with my college textbooks and notebooks and put it through an entire semester of hauling stuff around yet, but I think it will hold up to the job.

Great fit for middle school! Ample space and lots of extra pockets to keep things organized. Comfortable straps and looks great!

Love that this bag is lightweight, has tons of organization, and IS NOT BORING! And I can also machine wash. Winner.

This is perfect for my 8th grader and will hopefully see her through a few grades as her last one did! Usual Vera quality and awesome Zappos experience!

Love this bag .So comfortable to wear and carry. Great roomy space .interior is so pretty. A classic that will never go out of style. Worth the little extra expense. I especially love that it does say when you stand it up. Great buy.

I love the quality and craftsmanship of this backpack. I ordered it for my granddaughter's 13th birthday. The only problem is, I would like to order the matching lunch box in the same pattern. It seems to be unavailable.

This bag is even bigger than I expected and exactly what I was looking for when choosing a backpack for nursing school! Endless places to store anything I might need, and very durable.

This is so beautiful in person, even better than it looked online! It's a really nice size for my daughter to take to school, with little extra pockets both inside and out. She is thrilled with this bag, which is saying a lot for a teenager.
