Not for high arches! I couldn’t even get my foot into this shoe, despite it being the correct size. I was so bummed because they’re so cute.

I LOVE these shoes. The boiled wool sole is soooo nice, and it molds to your foot shape over time. They are warm and cozy and comfortable, perfect for standing on my feet all day at work. They are even good in a bit of rain or snow because it's natural wool. Good sticky rubber non-marking outsole on the bottom.

I've tried several pair of Haflingers before that unfortunately didn't work out for me. I just loved the cute styles with stitching, embroidery, etc., but because I have a narrow to medium foot, the ones I've ordered before were way too wide. I decided to try the Haflinger Zigzag closed heel shoe. I normally wear a size 41 (which is a 10 in European sizes) but decided to order it in a size 40. There is plenty of room in the toe area. With medium socks, it feels pretty well (I don't feel like the shoe is going to slip off my feet). I have tried the Haflinger mules, but think having one with the closed back definitely did the trick. I love the cool embroidery. I'm thinking I may try to wear them with tights as well. Shipping was crazy fast; ordered them after midnight on Saturday (early Sunday morning), and they were here before 8 pm Monday! Zappos has great customer service, too!

I REALLY wish I could wear these. But they're not for people with high instep because they come up too far on top of foot - can't even get my foot in! :( The wool is very nice & it's well made & sturdy.

I love this brand, have worn them for years and normally they're great; super comfortable and durable. Unfortunately, this specific shoe model must have had a consistent defect in the manufacturing process. It started to fall apart as soon as I got it, so Zappos exchanged it for me for a new pair of the same shoe. Now, less than 3 months late they are falling apart inthe exact same way (the wool upper is falling off of the cork sole). I'm pretty upset. This is not a cheap shoe and I expect high quality from Haflinger.

I am a fan of Haflinger. However I'm disappointed in their inability to properly size their excellent products. I ordered a pair of the "clogs" to which Haflinger has wisely added some height to the heel preventing the shoe from falling off. I ordered a size 12 (I usually wear 11.5 but these don't come in that half size) The size 12 was far too large. I could have placed a full deck of cards behind my heel. In effort to find my size, I ordered both an 11 and a 10. Well the eleven was still too big, and the 10 was too short. I had to return both. This Zigzag with the heel up to the task, could well become a favorite for you....if you happen to be a full size. HAFlinger doesn't do enough HAF sizes.

Just got them and glad I ordered up. With some socks they are perfect.

For a size 39, these were way too big. More like a 40 or 41 and not comfortable at all. I ordered three pairs of Haflingers, All were supposed to be size 39, however there was no consistency in the sizing. I will be sending all three pairs back. I currently own two pairs of Haflingers, and while there is a tiny bit of a difference in them size wise (both are 39), they are still comfortable. I was also disappointed to see these German shoes are no longer manufactured in Germany.

I was in a quandary about how to mark the size rating--I wear a 35.5, so I usually can wear a 36 (it's what I wear in Naot and Ecco), and in these, the footbed felt right: the arch and toeholds were where they should be. But the shoes themselves were so wide I walked right out of them, and not even a thick pair of winter socks were going to make up the difference. I was very disappointed, as I was looking for something to replace a pair of Keen Howsers. It's hard to rate shoes when they don't fit, so other than Style, my comfort rating is unreliable. They *seem* like they would be--the footbed seemed like it would give good support, and I liked that these had a back, instead of being mules. Maybe it's that they're unisex. I hope others have better luck than me.

I'm obsessed. I've had a number of pairs of hafligers before these, but always the clogs, not the closed back. I was a bit worried as other reviews cautioned that those with a high instep might have trouble, so I ordered these in my usual haflinger size (39 despite the fact that I wear a 9 in US sized shoes) and also one size up. My usual size felt slightly tight, and was slightly difficult to get on, but the 40s were too big, so i kept the 39s. I wore them around with the thickest wool socks i could find to help them stretch a bit and it worked. They are basically perfect - my foot still wiggles a bit to get in, but i can do it without using my hands and once they are on, they are perfect. The only 'misstep' with these shoes is that there was a lump under my left foot, just behind my arch. I had zappos send me a replacement pair and that pair was even worse, so I stuck with the first ones and i'm happy to say that, a month later, its basically broken in and the lump is basically non-existent. I have issues with plantar fasciitis, so i wear these everywhere because they offer more support than most of my other shoes (i live in NYC, so i walk A LOT) and they are really great. I even occasionally get compliments on them which is a bonus - i dont think of them as being particularly fashionable so it's nice when someone actually likes the way they look.

I have the Haflinger grizzly which I have worn out. I thought I would try these since they have the back on them. I loved them except they were wider than my grizzlies and pretty loose over all. I liked the back and the length was right but just much looser than my old grizzlies. I think these would work for someone with wider feet. I may have to stay with the other style after all.

Looking for a well structured slipper but these run long and wide. I have a medium foot and I walked right out of them

I get 38 to wear with “hose-type” socks but go up to 39 to wear with “regular” socks w/all “Birkenstock” type shoes. I generally wear size 8 or 8.5 (USA), depending on purpose & use of any particular shoe. I bought these as a replacement for the same color/style of work shoe I bought almost 3 years ago. The soles are too worn to continue but they are JUST as comfortable as day 1! Must have a “back” for work & I’m on my feet & moving all day. I have a high instep which is why I have to go up a size with socks. I was so excited to find same color/style available in my size & jumped on “last pair” hoping I wouldn’t be too late to get them. In another 2.75-3 years, hope I’ll STILL be able to replace THIS pair! LOVE these shoes! MORE COLORS STYLE options would equal ANOTHER purchase for non-work. Wore these to work THE DAY they arrived & I NEVER do that! Comfort & support, NO issues, right out of the box!

Shoe fit well ordered half size larger because I wear thick wool socks in the winter even with slippers. Excellent arch support. Worn them outside as they have great soles for doing so. Best slippers I’ve ever worn. Precious slipper was a sorel.

Love Haflinger as slippers and wear them around the house year-round. They are comfortable, supportive, and cozy. This is my first pair with the back and like that they don't slip off my feet.

Perfect! Finally a pair of slippers that I can wear in the house all day. I even go out to the enclosed porch and the steps. They are comfortable with and without socks. The toe box area is wide and super comfy. I wear a 9 1/2 and size 40 fits perfectly.

I'm usually a size 8 or 8 and 1/2, but because these shoes are wide I take a size 37 which is a size 6 US These are my second pair of Haflinger boiled wool shoes. They are so cozy oh, I hate to take them off!

I have loved Halfingers in the past and found them very comfortable. However, these ones were too wide on my foot and not quite right in the arch. My toes hit the end of the foot in the size 39 and were swimming in the size 40. Just didn't work. Still love the look though.

These are such nice clogs, but the instep was a too high for my feet.

They are different, waiting for them to get more comforable with time, i hope

Purchased the GZH Zigzag in my usual Haflinger size 37. Right shoe bit snug with a medium sock. The left shoe impossibly tight across the top / instep (where the braid is stitched on). Length / width otherwise good on the 37s. Exchanged for a size 38 shoe hoping for a little more ease in the left shoe instep. The size 38 right shoe was good with a medium sock (sockwell) but the left shoe was now very sloppy and loose on my foot. It felt a whole size bigger than the right shoe. I looked at the sizes marked on the shoe because I was sure the left shoe was a larger size erroneously packed with a size 38 right shoe. I could easily slip my finger between the top of my left foot and the top of the shoe (again where the braiding is stitched on) where on the right side it was fitted but not snug. The oversized left shoe was never going to stay on my foot. I give up. Quality control is obviously an issue with this current batch of Haflingers. I really wanted to upgrade to a closed heal style.

Have another pair of this brand and size 38 fit perfectly. But a 38 in this style we’re too long/wide. Either marked wrong or sizing is way off.

Fits a little roomier than expected but may be the result of the EU - US size conversion provided. Excellent quality and arch support.

I wanted something warm and comfortable with a bit of support to wear in the house. I like the closed heel style more than the open heel "scuff". I sized up in these clogs because I have wide feet and high arches but it proved unnecessary because my usual size fit well. I kept the size 37 and returned the size 38. As a bonus, these are also nice looking.

I love these slippers! I've always gotten the Haflinger slides before, which have an open back. The full back keeps them on my feet better and they are much warmer.
