Love my mat. Soak in the sun for a few hours, scrub with coarse salt, then let stand 24 hours. Scrub with salt again. Makes it less slick. Provides super support and cushioning for knees

Unless you practice in your home. Way to heavy to be carrying around. Bad choice for me.

I have been using this mat for 2 weeks now and I really enjoy doing yoga on it. The mat is thick, supportive and it's grippy. I didn't do the salt scrub initially as the stickiness of the mat was ok, but wanted to get the film off. This mat gets better the more you use it. I am so glad I got it and it's much better in quality than my old PVC mat. The only downside it is much heavier than my old mat but that is a small price to pay. I hope it last a lifetime !

Immediately you can tell the difference between a good yoga mat and a cheap one. I am loving my new manduka black mat so far! Purchasing a manduka bag to carry my mat in was one of the best decisions I've made!

I was a fan of the Lulu mat for its stick, but I was growing tired of how dirty it would get and how it would absorb sweat. I just felt like I was practicing on germs and it was really messing with my flow (see what I did there?). I had tried Manduka before but slipped constantly and had given away my Pro years ago. But, I decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad I did. I did a little research and found the salt scrub method for breaking in the mat and making it more sticky. Holy cow, it's a whole new ball game! Trhe mat is sticky, cushy enough to be comfy without messing with balance, and feels sturdy enough to last a lifetime. I am officially a Manduka convert. I'm in love!

Still breaking it in! I love how it cushions my knees and elbows. It is taking some getting used to the weight when I go to class and how slippery it is. I am told that the slipperiness will go away the more I practice. Good motivation for more yoga!

This mat is exactly what I expected - solid, durable and heavy duty. It helps pad the most unlikely of surfaces. Yes, it does slip in the beginning, but I would imagine that's normal for following mandates of production and the residue of freshness being apparent. I've seen some suggestions to rub rock salt and oil to really work it through and kind of "tenderize" it for lack of a better word. But I just went with it, and washed it with the formula spray they provide for purchase. After six months of use, I don't much notice the slippage. Also, I've cleaned it from multiple scenarios, like getting sand on it (great substitute for salt) and needing to wipe it clean. Just be diligent and the mat will become exactly what you need it to be. I only wish I got the longer one!

My husband (6' 3") and I (5' 6") both love this mat. He especially loves it because of the larger size. I love it because of the thicker cushion when in knee poses. The only downsize is it is very heavy compared to most yoga mats. Would highly recommend for all tall people or anyone looking to have extra cushion on knees etc. in their practice.

This mat is rugged, a bit heavier than I expected, but I use it for home. It works well, I don't have any trouble with slipping.

A very good mat. It keeps traction well in non-hot classes. Solidly built; durable and rolls well.

I have had the black mat pro for 4 months and have not regretted the purchase. I was worried that I would slip too much, but this has not been a problem. I prepared the mat with salt per the instructions and practice on it about 3 times per week and have worn it in nicely! I also love the thickness which provides good cushion for the joints. I wanted a mat that I could practice on without slipping, that I wouldn't have to replace in 6 months and that is environmentally friendly - got it!!! Thanks Manduka!

Great mat but I wish the grain of the mat ran horizontally rather than vertically because my hands slip a bit.

First of all the color is gorgeus. I mean, look at it. Okay.. I ordered this mat for my birthday and love it BUT I did not check the weight and assumed, due to it's price, that it would come with a some sort of carrier. MY BAD!! It is rather heavy for me so it quickly (and sadly) became "that mat that stays in the trunk" of my car. I've been using it daily for one week now and it's been very kind to my knees. Love that very much, thanks. However, it is ridiculously slippery. The first day I took it to vinyasa I could hardly hold my down dog and my class last night was more frustrating than relaxing, as I was constantly having to readjust my feet or wipe my hands dry. Now I'm back trying to buy a towel (so there was no point in buying a pretty-colored mat if it needs to be covered up). For the price, I believe these mats should at least come with a carrier! I don't like to complain and have never written a bad review on anything but, wow. I might as well have bought a miniature, padded slip n' slide. I've never dreaded a yoga class until now. If your core isn't strong, your face might meet the floor. I'm not talking about child's pose.

Bought this mat for my daughter who's a young beginning yogi. We Love the colour and thickness and quality. The only (biggish) downside is that we both appear to slip when we sweat, making it difficult to hold solid poses within our practice. We followed the recommendations of 24 hr salt treatment/cleaning method before use but it still doesn't do anything in the way of creating a nonslip, good grip mat. This is disappointing. Hoping this will improve with use and time???

i have practiced yoga for about 28 years. Having heard of Manduka mats I decided to give it a try. I bought it online and choose a model to take to the studio. The Pro mat -suggested by the quizz on your web page- is not the correct one. It is too heavy! Besides I find it too hard.

I bought this as a gift. After first use, he complained that it was slippery. So, he had to salt it? Also, it's bulky, so he had to buy a carrying strap that really should have come with it in the first place. So, it's expensive and high maintenance

The mat is slippery out of the box. I followed the instructions included with the mat by applying sea salt. I am on my third application. Has improved but still slippery.

I bought this a month ago for my girlfriend who is a yoga instructor. Great support and quality but the texture was unexpected and quite slippery for regular use and unusable in hot classes.

I bought this to replace the Lululemon thick Matt I had had for a bout 7 years. The Matt works well in dry conditions but put it in a heated room and it is is really slippery. I tried scrubbing it with salt as was recommended but it it not the Matt I thought I was getting. Needs a towel big time. I sweat a lot when I do yoga and this not a good matt for people who sweat.

For the price, I shouldn't have had to bake my mat in the sun, scrub it with salt, and rinse it down with dishwashing liquid SIX times in order to achieve a basic level of grip and not be scared, rattled and off-balance in class due to slipping around. I'm not talking about sweat-slipping, I'm talking about the lack of basic grip with standard levels of skin moisture. The combination of sun, salt and dishwashing liquid (I used Mrs. Meyer's) was the only thing that did it. Sun and salt alone didn't work. It's been okay for about a month now but getting to the point where I may have to do it again. And don't suggest that I buy a towel: A towel gets in the way of my practice, and I shouldn't have to anyway. It's a real problem, guys. Why don't you just pre-break them in or take a step to remove whatever it is (oils?) that cause this? This is supposed to be the king/queen of mats, but honestly next time I would just get a cheap one and replace it once in a while.

This is beautiful and a great mat length, however as a teacher who doesn't sweat, I still found it too slippery. It is definitely missing an extra of grip stubbles. I previously used a jade mat for 5 years that was 1/3 of the cost and weight and never had any slippage. It's also pretty heavy so a bag/carrier is a must.
