These wanted to be cute, felt pretty true to size, but there is stitching under the tongue of the shoe that presses on the top of your foot and is painful immediately. I dont think even a thick sock would remedy the problem. Returning.

I ordered the Wide (W) width to accommodate a bunion on my left foot. Unlike the WC806 and the WC786, these were just a bit too narrow. I didn’t want to take the chance that they would stretch and be comfortable since they are fairly pricey. I ended up returning.

The canvass fabric is too stiff and when it bends inward when I bend my toes, it hurts along the bend of the joints. Definitely can't play in them.
I'd also recommend:
New Balance but with the soft mesh fabric on top

I normally wear asics, but these looked so nice i had to try them. Only gave 3 stars for comfort for me personally because in the left shoe there was a hard rubber piece that irritated side of my arch. That is the foot that gives me trouble, but i have not experienced this kind of discomfort before.
I'd also recommend:
asics

I really like this shoe, but it does not hold up very long on the toe area when playing platform tennis. I got a warranty replacement pair at the beginning of September, have been playing 3-4 times a week and the left toe is starting to wear through already. Full disclosure, I do drag my feet more than the average player so my shoes tend to wear down quicker, but I have gotten 3-4 months out of other brands of shoes.
I really like these shoes otherwise but probably won't be getting them again because I don't want to have to get new ones that often.

I had 2 pairs of 996v2s before getting the v3 and am very disappointed so far. I experience a very bad 'hot foot' in one shoe and it is painful. Ive never had a similar experience in any tennis shoe. I loved the v2 except that the rubber mesh coating on the top would break down well before he sole was worn out. I like the stiffness of the sole - like the prior models and find them stable. Don't know where to go from here.

Great tennis shoe, with a "wide" width option which allows me a good fit.

As with all my new balance sneakers they are very comfortable. The breathable material is perfect for summer.

I normally have a hard time finding shoes that feel good. Problem solved! This shoe in the 2e width is a great fit. The shoe is comfortable to play in also.

Very comfortable. Bought these shoes to play squash. Image shoes some navy blue on the bottom, but they are actually are all white. Even better for non-marking

My daughter (junior player, high school player - 6 days a week) loves these shoes. She is on her third pair. I love the 6 month outsole warranty. Please keep them around and maybe offer some other cool colors??

they're high quality tennis shoes, pretty, light on the feet, puts a bounce in step, good for pounding the sidewalk

Loved the shoe but could not keep them due to pressure on my little toe. Not New Balance's fault its my foot.. Really wanted to keep them if they didn't hurt my toe..

New Balance always seems to run smaller for me. I tried ordering a half size larger but they still seemed a little tight and short. I would suggest ordering a full size larger than normal and wide if you like a little more room. Love the style though!

I've been a huge fan of New Balance and always wanted to buy a pair of their tennis shoes, however I stuck with what I knew (Adidas Barricade's) while I was playing competitively in college. After graduation, I bought a pair of these because I was hoping they would fit my feet better (I have really skinny feet). The shoes fit well, but I should've bought a pair that was 1/2 a size bigger. My mistake, but now I know. Great shoe otherwise. The sole is holding up well (I will definitely get the warranty because I tend to burn through a pair in 3 months). I will definitely buy another pair in the future.

After wearing and playing in for a week the stiffness of the shoe was gone, but it is still putting too much pressure on my outside toes even while wearing thicker socks for my foot problems.

I have purchased NB shoes size, 11 2E, for years as they have always fit. However the last 2 pair and particularly this pair, purchased over the internet, are too small. I have changed them once for an11.5 2E size but for length but now will be going back for wider version.

So far I love the look of the shoe but I am having issues with the seam over the toe box at the base of the shoe strings pushing down on the top of my foot and causing discomfort. I've only worn them twice to walk around in them and try to break them in and my feet were sore and hurt afterwards. I've never had to break in any of my new balance 996, so not sure this design is going to work. I haven't even had them on the tennis court yet and that's why I bought them. I like the look but hard to play tennis in a shoe where you have foot discomfort. I am really sad because I always get the newest versions of this shoe and while I like this one I just can't recommend it.

Bought a pair of 40 court shoes which wore out in three months but excellent fit with no problems. So I thought I would try a little high end shoe and of course selected New Balance. Thought after wearing for a while they would stretch a bit. NOT! Pains in my feet are so annoying that I'm going to throw them in the garbage. Never have I had a shoe so badly sized. Love to support an American company but my feet can't handle it!!!

I have had many pairs of the 996V1 and V2 and really liked them. When I first put the 996V3 on, I also liked the fit and feel -- perhaps even more comfortable than the V2. However, there is a design flaw that causes my ankles to roll over too many times. I have rarely rolled ankles during many years of tennis. But on these shoes it has happened many times in just a few short weeks. When I look at the shoe from the rear, I see that the lateral side sole (outer edge) does not extend outwards enough to support or prevent an ankle role. The upper of shoe actually is wider than the sole so this makes roll overs even easier. Please fix this for V4

Love the look of Blue Ozone. I USA.ly buy half size larger NB. I am an aggressive, competitive mid age player who averages 2 intense hours three times week on clay. These are so painful and seem to be breaking down after 5 days wear! Terrible pain on big and second toe. Hoping to return them for a larger size or different model.

I play tennis, have been playing for past 5-7 years and my entire family uses tennis shoes only from New Balance . The Customer Service makes excuses when it comes to the warranty. The inside souls and the toe box areas will wear out within 3 months, as it happened with me. I wouldn't recommend buying as the shoe will wear out within two to three months if you play everyday.
