I really wish this shoe would work for me but it is just too narrow. I've run many many trail ultras and this would be my new go to shoe except for the fact that it is too narrow in the toe box! I never get blisters from shoes and these gave me blisters over the course of a long run because they were so darn narrom. The toe box jut needs to be a lot larger both in height and width. The traction is great and they are super comfortable, but because of the narrow-ness i will be returning them.

Thus far 120 miles logged on the trail. Definitely feels like a completely revised version from the first. I"m pretty critical about the cushioning, since I have been running in Hokas since there inception. I keep purchasing them in hopes that they'll bring back that marshmallow feel back to at least one of their models. This shoe doesn't disappoint. Ride is smooth, rides a bit higher than the previous version. But Im not sure if its because the cushioning is different. First version felt like you had much more trail feedback. I think its worth checking out and giving them a go. Hoka please bring back the marshmallow feel i.e... Stinson combo XT.

I really like these shoes but have bee very disappointed with their durability. After less than 150 miles I am already getting holes forming in the toe of the shoe. I doubt they will last longer than 200-250 miles. Otherwise, they have performed exceptionally on aggressive trails and rugged terrain. Very stable given the high stack height. The toe box is a bit narrow and too pointy, even for my narrow feet. It would be nice to have a bit more room up there. The grip is amazing and the tread is holding up well. Overall, a much better performer than the Challenger ATR3 in aggressive terrain but wish they had the ATR 3's toe width and shape.

I really wanted to love this show. The toe box is still rather narrow and the mechanics of this show don't work for me. I love the challenger and mafate.

If you need, or prefer, a wide toe box, don't waste your time with this otherwise nicely designed shoe. Because of the narrowness, they turned my feet into burning clubs by mile 4, and thereafter felt very unstable on uneven ground (dead nerves combined with narrowish midsole). Don't want to slam the shoe, but this one is ONLY for categorically narrow feet. Sad they didn't work for me. Still looking for a replacement for the discontinued Mafate Speed.

Shoe is a little snug in toebox. I fixed the issue by re lacing one eyelet up. Downside is the tongue moves all over. It isn't sewn in like other trail shoes to prevent dirt from coming in. Tongue kept sliding down to my toes because I had the gap in the toebox to accommodate extra room. Tongue had buckled down where the extra gap was. Fit was good. Little tight.

the first time i wore them on a moderate, somewhat technical trail they seemed springy, supportive, great and rugged (awesome grip for uphill trail) but i got a weird set of blisters while on a steeper mountain trail (usually i wear salomons on this exact trail and haven't had that sort of blistering, so it was weird). i gave them another whirl out on a flatter trail but the bottoms of my toes started to get sore/raw after not even 3 miles. i wear the clifton 1's on the road and love them, these just aren't quite working out. i may try another run or two but don't want to add to my blister collection toooo much. wanted to love them but i'm just not too sure about them :(

I was really excited when I first bought these shoes: Attractive design, good true fit upon first trying them on, extremely grippy, etc but after a few short months the shoes feel completely different. These are NOT shoes for people who face over-pronation. I feel like I'm walking right off of the edge of these shoes and you can clearly see deterioration on the outer part of the shoe. I use these for trail walking and light exercise and I can confidently say that these shoes are not for me. I'm beginning to experience pain in my footbed, ankles and knees and I am in need of something with more stability. For what I paid for these shoes I would hope that Hoka would step up and get me into a better shoe to fit my needs. I really wanted to love this brand, my husband is on his 4th pair of Hoka's.

Third pair this year, but now I don't recommend those shoes anymore. Best trail running shoes I had so far on many perspectives. Much better than the speedgoat1, but durability is not acceptable... still more solid than the three ATR that I also destroyed very fast (also sole ungluing issue... but the front half).... I had to start glueing the back sole after 200km for the three of them, succeeded to keep them alive glueing several times, but two already in the trash after less than 500km... The third will die soon.

I purchased these trail shoes from Fleet Feet in Roanoke, VA where I purchase all my running shoes. I love Hoka's and have purchased many pairs. These we're purchased for a Spartan Trifecta. The tread is not sufficient for the muddy climbs or steep declines. My husband did great in his Solomon's while I slid all over the place. I still love Hoka and will purchase more, but not for a Spartan and I really had to purchase another brand.

I wear 8.5 is Altras, this shoe was tight! I instantly felt hot spots due to the narrow toe box. The cushioning is great for downhills but overall, a disappointment.

I run trails in these. Rooty, rocky, wet, hilly, flat, dry trails. At 50 miles I started getting tears in the same two spots on both shoes. It occurs on the upper, in the soft fabric where the plastic exoskeleton material and it meetings. The groves cut out of this exoskeleton pinch the soft fabric on the upper - causing tears. Time will tell if this structural failing continues and causes an early retirement for them. Otherwise, decent cushioning, good grip, blister machine. A bit narrow.

I have less than 250 miles of trails on my speedgoat 2's and the sole of the left shoe is ruptured. Under the center of the heel area is an unprotected area of soft foam and the rocks have worn a hole right through. I had hoped they would hold out for a bit longer than that. Going to try Altra next.

Yet another Hoka that has too narrow of a toebox for me. I'm a runner that has run thousands of miles over the years, and I need room for toe splay when I run. Hoka's used to have a toebox that allowed this, but it seems like they are getting away from that, which is making me have to go to other brands. I am going to try the new Torrent, and am hoping that maybe they will be the trail shoe that will work for me.

I was hoping I would love these shoes Bc I tried a pair on in store and loved them. The ones I tried on were extremely comfortable but I think I went wrong by getting the trail version. They seem to be more stiff and don't have near the amount of cushion as the ones I tried on in store. I mainly use these at work (I work in radiology at a hospital). Unfortunately, I'm past my 30 day return policy or I would've exchanged for a different style.

I'd read such good reviews, I was really hoping to love this shoe, but it was so awful I had to cut my run short and turn around after only 1 mile in them! There's arch support, but it's WAY too far forward - it was pressing into the balls of my feet as I ran. Also, the laces were ridiculously short - I'm a ladies' size 10, and it's like they gave me the laces that go with the size 2s. I literally has 3" of lace to tie the shoe with. Not the quality I'm used to from my Hokas. Back they go.

Can't give too much feedback because I only did 3 runs in them. Shoes are way too narrow and totally crushed my feet and cramped my toes. I would consider my feet average width - I don't wear any wide shoes. It's the number one complaint I hear about Hoka from athletes on the trails. I personally like a more cushioned sock on the trail, especially in winter and these did not even work with my thinnest summer socks. Cushioning seems adequate and traction was decent but not great on sloppy trails but not too many shoes are. Have tried several different trail shoes from Hoka and unfortunately, I will have to move on to another brand since the design team is unwilling to listen to all the negative feedback about their shoes being too narrow. If Hoka would just open up the toe box a little, they would be the best brand out there hands down.

Overal Disappointment. I wear a size 14 and the shoe felt a full size smaller. 15s would have been too big. The toebox was also narrow compared to my previous Hokas. I was also concerned about durability. Obviously I haven’t run in them, but they didnt feel like they could take a beating on trails. Went with New Balance instead.

Put these on and walked around the house. The toe box was so narrow it hurt my feet just sitting on the couch. Going to have to return them. Very disappointed because it is a beautiful shoe with great tread.
