Quality construction and materials. Every Merrell I've owned has been extremely well made and comfortable. Style is too narrow for my medium (yet on the wide side) feet. And even narrower than what is basically the same boot without the laces (a slip on) which I also tried and plan to keep. Decided to size up from usual 7.5 in boots to 8 to accommodate a thicker and provide little more width with the slip on. Lace up is super cute and looks quite durable so if your foot is on the narrow side the lace up will probably be perfect.

Something about the combination of the arch support and the heel made me feel like I was standing with my feet halfway over a ledge when I put them on. Padding was nice and I think perhaps if my arches were higher and I had sized down they would have been comfortable. Too bad, it's a cute boot!

I really wanted to love these as I was in immediate need of comfortable winter walking boots. What a disappointment. First, as other reviewers said, these are just too narrow across the ball of the foot. I am normally an 8.5 and always do half-up for thick socks and my own insoles. Almost always, that results in a perfect fit. Without any socks at all, these were way too narrow and slightly too long (meaning that an additional size up would not have been an option). Moreover, they LOOKED too narrow. For those who want their feet to look LONG and skinny, you are in luck! They were just odd looking and ill fitting. I also agree with others who said the tread is not as obvious as it appears it would be and the heel is less "chunky" than it looks like it would be. Too bad because I wanted boots that looked like the picture! Back they went.
