Well made and nice fitting boots. Very lightweight, but they seem to handle their own on rocky terrain. Bought a pair last fall to replace a pair of long lasting and much beloved Garmonts. So far, so good. the Salewas seem to breathe a little better than my previous GTX boots and make me feel a bit more nimble scrambling around. Snow was no problem, though I wouldn't call them warm, per se.
Finally, one "niggle" -- and a word of caution on fit: While the quick pull lacing system works pretty well, tucking the laces after tightening is pretty fiddly and a bit frustrating. As for fit, they work great for my slightly narrow, low volume, feet. If you have wide or big-for-your-size feet these might not be the boots for you. Neither of these was a real issue for me.
All in all quite pleased with these Salewas.

A nice sleek yet urban Trail Running Sneaker-Boot to add to your quiver!
I was looking for another quality outdoor hiking boot brand to potentially start replacing Asolo. I stumbled upon SALEWA, they look like they have some interesting footwear. The SALEWA Ultra Flex Mid GTX fits perfectly in-between the Salomon SPEEDCROSS GTX Trail Running Sneakers which stinks for walking around on tarmac in the wet and the Salomon X ULTRA 3 MID GTX with Contagrip TD Light Hiking Boots which have the best all-around grip I've ever utilized. If you want to add something to your quiver, the SALEWA Ultra Flex Mid GTX is a nice option because it has some needed ankle support and they're not hot in warmer weather. They remind me of the OG's I use to have back-in-the-day the 1992 Nike ACG AIR ESCAPE, which was a first of its kind. SALEWA's Ultra Flex Mid GTX's Black/Anthracite/Hi Vis Orange more urban color-way is super cool! The style is there, the quality is there, Gore-Tex is there, needed grip is there. I really like the "climbing" lace set-up. The lacing system is similar if not identical to Salomon's Quick-Lace system, but the generic plastic mechanism is not easy to operate, the Kevlar laces are a little bit bigger in diameter then the Salomon Quick-Laces. I wound up swapping them out for Salomon's Quick-Laces to have consistency throughout my trail sneaker-boots. They're very ergonomic, and there is definitely more room in the toe-box then appears in the photos. I would say they're still true to size, and you could wear a thicker sock if needed. They're slightly long but I would still take your normal size because if you don't your arch will not line-up properly.
Things I would definitely like SALEWA's Designers to tweak would be the Midsole Cushioning by adding 1-2 mm of Cushion in the forefoot and 2-3 mm in the heel, they definitely could be more comfortable underfoot despite the nice OrthoLite insoles which offers adequate arch support. Also the mesh lace-garage affects lacing up the shoes slightly as well as with the subpar generic lace-slider/locking mechanism. Regarding Fit & Finish: The upper is excellent, I did notice on the midsole there was some glue residue where the upper meets the midsole - strictly cosmetic. Overall I these Trail Running Sneaker-Boot 4-Stars. Their slightly a little longer/wider in the forefoot/toe box than I expected and I definitely was expecting more cushioning in the midsole. Do I recommend them: Yes

Salewa ultra Flex Mid GTX is a size too small and a VERY narrow shoe. I normally were a 7 in mens but the size 7 was way too snug. I ordered a size up, size 8, and the fit was good.

While I loved the look, I hated the fit and the lacing system. These run small and narrow to size.
