I love a lot of Arcteryx products but can't get excited about this jacket. I use it mostly for backcountry skiing. My biggest complaint is the fabric is so stiff. It doesn't move well, is not very comfortable and packs poorly into a backpack. I also wish the powder skirt was removable. I don't like the giant 2 zip pocket design. whatever you put in tends to bounce around. I just keep going back to my older jacket from another brand.

So, I tried to give this feedback direct to Arcterix, but they fobbed me off and said leave a review on the website, so here it is. To set the scene, I've skied for over 30 years, at about 30 different ski fields in over a dozen different countries, and I average about 3 weeks a year (or so) so I have a bit of an idea of what I'm talking about when it comes to ski gear. Now, I like Arcterix - I like the fact they have a decent selection of shells (both jackets and pants); the quality is very good, the colours are great and I love that they use GoreTex (and GoreTex Pro) but their jackets (particularly) lack features. My first gripe is that the hood is not detachable. If you have a look at all the skiers, on any particular day, at any skifield in the World, nobody wears the hood - except if its snowing heavily, or raining. If it's raining, most people leave, and of those that keep skiing, most do wear the hood as it keeps rain from soaking through the vents in your helmet. But then, how often do you ski in the rain? If it's snowing heavily, my estimate is about 15% of people wear the hood - which means 85% (approx) don't wear it. And why would you? Snow doesn't soak through the vents in your helmet (like it does if it's raining). You don't get cold because you have a helmet on, and the hood restricts your peripheral vision. And when you turn you head left or right, the hood doesn't move with you so you can't see to your left (or right). And if you simply don't wear it (like 85% of skiers) it flaps around in the wind, and fills up with snow. For God's sake, make it detachable. I bought a new jacket this year, a Marmot jacket - with a detachable hood. It's brilliant. The hood re-attaches is about 30 seconds if you need it, and if you don't - no hood filling up with snow, or flapping around. Just fold it up and stick it in your side pocket in case you need it. Next, the pocket Arcterix puts on the upper arm, to store your pass. Really, on the upper arm?? I think every single manufacturer in the World puts it on your forearm (except Arcterix), so that to scan your pass on a higher or lower (than usual) pass scanner, you simply raise (or lower) your wrist. Very easy. However if your pass is in a pocket on your shoulder, because you own an Arcterix jacket, and the scanner is higher than your shoulder, you have to try to jump up and down (wearing your skis, or your board) to get high enough for the scanner to read your pass. Same problem is there's a lot of snow, so the scanner is lower than usual - ever tried bending down to get your shoulder low enough to scan your pass when you're wearing skis (or boards) and the scanner is at waist height? Not easy. Pleeeeeeaaase put the pass pocket on the forearm. It's just so much easier. On the subject of pockets, the inside chest pocket is not big enough to store most phones, especially if they have a case. Why do I want to take my phone out of its case everyday so it fits in my ski jacket, then put the case back on the phone when I take my jacket off? Wouldn't it be simpler to make the pocket just a little larger? And put a little insulation on the front side of the jacket, between the phone pocket and the shell, to make the phone battery last a little longer in the cold. And put two, inside chest pockets on your jackets - I need somewhere to put my wallet AS WELL as my phone. Oh, and I need two side pockets to put 'stuff' in, like a handkerchief (because my nose runs in the cold) and a chocolate bar to munch on when I'm hungry, and to put my car/accommodation keys in. It's all pretty simple stuff, if you think about it. My new Marmot jacket has all this stuff. And it's a shell - why can't you do this as well, Arcterix? I'd love one of your shells, and your pants, but until they're more 'user friendly' I'm going to keep wearing my new Marmot jacket. Yes, the colour is a bit boring, but the features are brilliant. And I don't have to jump up and down to scan my pass.

For a Gore-Tex Pro Shell jacket at a premium price point, there are some basic design issues. I use this for resort and backcountry snowcat skiing. Of course the Gore-Tex material is great and I will never buy any other "waterproof breathable" material, but it is of course common to all the higher end shell jackets out there, so all the jacket manufacturers are equal there. But the issues: Firstly, the zipper pulls are so small that I cannot grab them easily with gloves on. There needs to be a knot at the end of a string or something to really grab on to. I don't want to be taking my gloves off. There also needs to be a much larger soft fleece liner on the collar in front of your face #it is roughly 1 cm x 3 cm#. The material is really abrasive on the face. Also, it would be nice if there was at least one loop for attaching a lift ticket or a thermometer. The sleeve pocket is good, but again I can't open it with gloves on. A chest pocket would also be good. Otherwise the jacket looks nice, fits true to size, the hood is large enough to cover my face on windy days. For the money you are better off with a MEC #Mountain Equipment Coop# jacket, which is always well thought out and super functional, just maybe not as stylish. This jacket needs some real minor improvements, then it would be great.

I ordered the Rush - Black Storm jacket. The pictures on this website show the jacket top color to gray. However the jacket color is more purple than gray. I was very disappointed the jacket didn't match the picture.d

I really wanted to buy this jacket however the sizing is way out of whack. In a medium I couldn't even zip it up with a sweater on. The large was like wearing a garbage bag. It was massive. What's with the length in the sleeves? They were literally 6 inches past my fingertips. You offer short length pants, I would strongly recommend considering the same with your jackets. You're cutting out any customer who isn't a skinny medium or a 6'5 basketball payer.

Look close at the pictures and you can see how BULKY the biceps and forearms are. Frankly the pictures are deceiving because the fabric on the forearms is folded to make it appear sleeker. I just don't understand the thought process on this. It really bothers me. I can seriously fit my legs through the arms. Add to this that the sleeves run to my finger tips. I wear a Fortress Hoodie with and Atom underneath and I could still fit another humans arms in the jacket. I have a lot of arcteryx jackets which is why I am soooo disappointed in the sizing.

I have a variety of Arcteryx jackets, and pants. All for use when I take an annual snowboarding trip. Living in the Southern US, I only really wear my Rush jacket for 7 days a year, and that makes the issues experienced so frustrating given how little I have used it. The N80p fabric on the shoulders and sleeves is fantastic. It has held up great, and still to this day repeals water with ease. I wear a pack when snowboarding and looking at the shoulders you could never tell, let alone the fact its still super water resistant on the shoulders. Overall the jacket is awesome for cutting out the wind, and helping you keep warm. There are many great features as described in the specifications, and all these contribute to making the jacket really great, with one exception. The N40r material is just too soft and/or thin to stand up to a few uses on the mountain. After only two seasons (for me 7 days is a season), the N40r material started to let go. After one season and realizing that the N40r sections of the jacket cannot repeal water, I washed the jacket per the instructions, but no change. I've basically accepted the N40r section of the jacket is just not holding up, and I cannot keep anything in the pockets that cannot get soaking wet, as water easily passes through. Anything in my Stinger pants pocket stays nice and dry, albiet it has N80p material. Seeing how the N80p material repeals water and holds up, its disappointing the front of the Rush uses N40r and lets so much water through. Again, the shoulders and sleeves where the N80p material is used, is super water resistant and holding up even better than I could have ever imagined. Even the material used on the Atom jackets (LT and AR) I own are holding up way better, and I wear them very frequently, and with a backpack while hiking. If I was to select another jacket, I wouldn't think twice if it was 100% N80p, like the Sabre or Sidewinder.

Hello I'm sorry because I'm use to wear your closes (espacially Beta) for years and was never disapointed, but this time I bougth 2 rush jackets: one in small size for me I'm 1,77m and 68Kgs and the size is huge. The Betas models wears much better

I was very excited to receive this top-line ski shell. The first day I got the package, I tested all the pull strings, and they were all fine except for the one on the hood. One side of the string broke off from the end piece that holds them together. I wasn't using extreme force or anything close to that. Very disappointed that I found quality issues before I even started skiing. I was debating between the Burton gore tex pro jacket and this one, I trusted Arcteryx quality but gotta say this is very disappointing. Would not recommend spending tons of money and risking the chance of going through something like this.

Purchased this a few days ago. As soon as i try to tighten the hood by using the pull string, one side of the string immediately snapped off from the plastic piece that holds them together (yes i did squeeze on lock to unlock it). It was a pretty gentle pull, i did not treat it like i was tring to choke someone. Exchanged for another one and exact same thing happened. First try on both of them. I did not even use them on the ski resort yet, just merely put it on and try it at home. Trying to see if the string can be reinserted into the plastic piece, but it doesnt seem like there is a way to do that. Seems like onces it disconnects from the plastic it's done for. Don't know if i should exchange for another or just simply return it, because while i really want to like this jacket, im not feeling very confident in arcteryx's build quality and quality control now.

This jacket is really well built, has great features and looks great. I have a lot of Arcteryx gear that I love and the Rush is built just as well if not better than my other stuff. I have used the Rush for about 20 days now so I think I have an idea of how it performs for me. I think for many, if not most people, this jacket is one of the best ski shells you can buy. My low rating is just from a personal perspective, because Goretex and even Goretex Pro simply doesn't breathe well enough to keep me dry. It keeps the snow and wind out perfectly, but I used it in a few snow storms where I had to quit skiing half way through the day because I was soaked from the inside. I took my jacket off in the lodge and it was literally soaking wet on the liner. Not a nice feeling. I used to have a 3 layer Goretex ski jacket (with the fuzzy liner like the Sabre). It was a great ski jacket, except that I completely overheated in it. I tried the Rush because of the Goretex Pro material. I was hoping that it would be the answer. While it does breathe significantly better than the regular 3 layer Goretex, when I do start sweating, it gets even more uncomfortable than my old jacket. Vapor ends up condensing on the inside liner of the jacket, the material stops breathing altogether because it is wet and at that point I get soaked. I don't think there is anything wrong with the jacket, it's just that Goretex doesn't keep me dry at all. I now use a much more breathable shell. It's not quite as waterproof and windproof, but it works much better for me. It's too bad, because I love the look and construction of the Rush. Overall, I actually recommend this jacket. For most people, I think it will work great, assuming you don't tend to overheat. I wish it worked for me. In my case, the Gortex guarantee to keep me dry... well, doesn't... and I will be buying more breathable options in the future.

I bought RUSH last year. fit is great. color is nice as well. Unfortunately ,I just used my jacket for hiking last year. In this year i could test my rush as a snow jacket in the ski resort...the perfomance of goretex was really nice...but after laundering goretex had been detached around seamed line. how could it be happened. just 1year i have used, just once my shell has been washed. i don't know how i repair it. where can i send it...terrible!!
