I always run cold no matter how many layers I have on. I was wearing a regular fashion ski jacket and was still cold. The person at the store told me to do a layering system...he was so right. I can now use my Airah jacket with just a base layer and maybe a light midlayer. I was warm during the spring ski season. I will probably have to use a warmer midlayer when it is colder. It keeps out the wind. I even used the jacket when it was cool in the Spring for hiking.

During mid winter I wore this jacket on split-board tours in the Alberta Rockies and every day during a week long backcountry lodge trip in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia last season. I run cold so I used this jacket in place of a down and shell combo and was very comfortable with just a base layer and fleece! I went back to a down and shell combo come spring, but the Airah is now a staple for mid winter and cold snap adventures!

I seriously don't know how I've skied this long without this jacket! First off - I hate having to layer a ton before going out touring or even a day on the hill. I want throw on a warm baselayer and this jacket! It solves my "always being cold" issue - it's the all in one backcountry companion. I am really impressed with it's quick dry ability and that it can retain heat even when wet or if you sweat. It is super comfortable but still look sleek and stylish. I would recommend this to any chicka who is looking for simplicity without sacrificing warmth, waterproofing or comfortability.

I bought this jacket to add to my layering options. I wanted an Alpha SV shell (which I'll get next time!) but the appeal of a lightly insulated jacket/shell for my winter activities was far more appealing. I've been struggling with the sheer bulk of my layers when we are ice climbing or snowshoeing etc. The insulation in this jacket means I can reduce my layers down to a warm base layer, a Wool layer if I choose or my Atom or other micro down. But I have yet to have to wear all layers together because of this insulated shell! Win!! I will however mention that the other reviews stating it "fits large" is quite accurate however I still could NOT have gone down a size to XS. I'm 5'3", 125lbs athletic build - and this jacket does fit as I expected (true to my size as with all my other jackets) with room to put my layers on....however I find myself disappointed with Arcteryx again for somehow missing some good features I think most women would appreciate. This jacket fits a litttle long and I love the powder skirt - but why then does it have to balloon out in the middle? The fit is quite trim down my sides (I'm pretty narrow waisted) but I can fit a chest harness and a bunch of gear inside my jacket because there is a lot of odd space that isn't relative to the rest of the fit/cut. Plus - it doesn't have a two way zipper so when you sit down it will bunch a lot! I can accept these shortcomings but it's still disappointing to see such an odd shape and the lack of 2 way on the zipper. Sure there is room for my layers but it just all fits a little off in the front of my jacket especially without the bulk layers under neath. It's not all about looks right....? I also do love the stash pocket on the inside and the zippered pocket. Would have been nice to have a third pocket on the outside sleeve as some others have - but oh well! Otherwise a great jacket for what I wanted to solve this season!

Top quality from Arcteryx as always. I haven't used this jacket for skiing yet as the season hasn't started here, but I've used it for walking, hiking and around town, and it's highly versatile. I bought it because I always run cold and wanted an insulated shell, and this jacket does the trick. It's very comfortable and offers great weather protection. It's not super warm on it's own, but with a mid layer it gets nice and toasty. The fabric is rather noisy, so if noise is a concern of yours, this might not be the jacket for you. It also fits quite large, I bought my usual size Small (I'm 167 cm, 57 kg), but would probably have been happier with an XS as it feels baggy without a mid layer and the sleeves are so long they completely cover my hands. So if you prefer a trim fit, consider sizing down. Besides these minor issues, it's a lovely jacket, and the colour (Black Sapphire) is beautiful! I would recommend this jacket.
