I scoured the internet for the perfect bag for travel/carry-on. I needed something to accommodate work and life at the same time - aka my laptop and all my kids' stuff! Was looking for something not too big, but also that would safely hold my laptop along with kids' change of clothes, snacks, ipads, headphones, etc. I absolutely love all the pockets and how accessible everything is. Laptop slides in and out very easily and has sufficient padding. I had the bag packed almost to its max and it still easily slid under the airline seat. The straps are comfortable and my shoulders didn't hurt at all after carrying this around most of the day (I'm 5'4" female). I love the grey color and initially was looking at the "women's" version, but didn't like the grey combined with the plum. I highly recommend this bag, it made my travel so much more manageable.

awesome backpack. not bulky at all yet very spacious. I take it every time I travel. really good looking and very durable. still looks like the day I got it. (~ 2 - 3 years?)

I use this bag everyday for school, and it comes in every trip with me. Seems to be the perfect size for any activity. 10/10 would buy again (but probably wont ever have too because it's so durable). At first I was not sure about the handle in the middle of the front side of the back, but I actually use it a lot. It's a great added design feature.

My wife got this pack, lent it to me and never got it back LOL. I can honestly say I have not yet encountered a situation in which this pack could not accommodate what I wanted to carry. Want an example? I am headed to Moab Utah to go rock climbing. My gear is in a North Face Base Camp Duffel, size XL. I need a folding luggage cart to haul the duffel through the airports. Guess what? The Surge accommodates the cart, folded, to take onboard; PLUS my laptop, a down vest, guidebook, earphones, etc. See what I mean? I can't speak to the new design, I think this one looks just great. Amazing, sturdy, spacious backpack that lasts for years.

I use the backpack everyday to carry my laptop and everythibg I need for school and work. Very durable and comfortable.

This is the best commuter back i have ever owned. The separate laptop pocket makes for easy access to your laptop without having to empty your bag. The front pockets help keep all your cords charging blocks etc. organized. Highly recommended.

This backpack is great. I use it everyday for school, work, and everything in between. The organization is amazing and helps me keep all my stuff in order.

I use this mainly for traveling. All the compartments keep everything organized, and I feel like I don't have to worry about ripping any holes through the material. It's actually super sturdy, I guess that's why it can't really stand on its own, but that's not a huge deal to me.

I need a backpack for work that will hold my laptop, phone, water bottle...the daily commute type stuff. Up until a few years ago I used to like a nice leather briefcase bag but I now I work for a digital marketing agency and it's a more relaxed vibe, so a backpack works perfectly. I've tried some cheap canvas ones but they tend to only last a year or so before ripping. I'm returning to the office next week after 15 months remote so I started looking for a new backpack. I almost got another cheap one but I remembered the North Face I bought almost 15 years ago (the Hotshot). I've used it a ton - travel, gym, you name it - and it still looks new. One of the best investments I've ever made. I'd use it for work, but it's a bright yellowy/orange and I wanted something black. I ordered the Surge last night and can't wait to get it.

I use this backpack for all the day to day activities while going to college, biking and also useful for Hiking. A perfect backpack for every type of use. Was looking this type of backpack from so long. But now I can say this is the one. Before getting this I compared all the other brand and types of backpacks in the market and after all the reviews and research I cam up with conclusion to get this one and it is worth it. I will 100% recommend anyone to get this backpack for any kind of use.

Awesome bag! I should have this for a long time. All my school material fits well and with the quick adjustable straps balances well also.

Seems to be a good bag..

Great for lugging around all of my things all day. If it broke today I would buy another one in a heartbeat, this backpack is a game changer.

Great quality backpack. A stretchy stash pocket is all it needs to make it perfect the daily bag. Tons of pockets, sturdy zippers, great materials. I can really feel the quality of the bag. Just missing that stash pocket though.
