I wanted to replace my old (unisex) Camelback with a pack that was still versatile enough to use both for mountain biking and as a day pack for hiking. I love my Tempest 9! My first time using it was on three-day bikepacking trip and I fit a surprising amount of gear inside (two spare tubes, tools, stuffed down jacket, 3L bladder and some food. I bought my pack in Europe and only discovered later that Osprey makes an XS size for petite frames, which they don't market in Europe. Some reviews I read on the Europe site from short women complained about the pack digging in their lower backs. I'm 5'2" (157cm) and the regular size fits me fine for biking--no digging since I'm leaning over all of the time. For hiking, it hits slightly lower than it should, but it doesn't bother me. The padded waist straps are very comfortable and side pouches are really handy. The shoulder straps are shaped for a woman, unlike the unisex Camelbak, making the pack nicely snug. I had also tried some Vaud packs on for size, but quickly put them back because the top of the pack dug into my neck. All straps on the Tempest 9 are very easy to adjust. Currently, I'm following a work trip up with an adventure vacation, so I had to leave my other Osprey at home (the Flapjill pack). I was surprised to be able to fit my 12.2" laptop, two spiral notebooks (A4 size), and wallet inside the Tempest. The helmet clip and key chain hook are also handy.

I hike alot in Phoenix and the surrounding areas. I needed a bag designed for women, as I am petite and my boyfriend's Camelback is too large for my torso. I love the color, the Tourmaline, and it holds plenty of essentials you need for daypacking/day hiking.

I bought this for long day hikes and mountain bike rides. Some might think it's small but I lean minimalist. I knew it was the right pack for me after much looking. I am very petite and wanted a women's specific product. I'm 5' 1" and the XS is a perfect fit. So comfortable. And all the pockets and features are wonderful. I put this pack to a difficult test when I recently hiked the length of Santa Catalina Island. We used a gear haul service for bigger stuff to travel ultra-light on the trails. The Osprey Tempest 9 held everything I needed for 40-plus miles of difficult hiking over 3 days. 5 Stars all the way.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I’m 5’1” with “swimmers shoulders” and found this to fit quite nicely, and comfortably. I only wish the bladder had been included, as that’s now another thing I need to hunt down. Excited to take this into the mountains!

I love the smaller size. I love the bungee cord storage net, live the water bottle holders, the small pocket in the front strap (I use it to store my water hose). This tiny pocket was my selling point- I like being able to stow away the mouth piece when not in use.
I can easily fit a light layer, plus my Sony a7iii and a spare lens. I love the side pockets. I like that it can be cinched to make it less bulky.
The waffle designed backside is a nice comfortable touch. I really like this bag. I'm excited to take it on adventures, hiking, biking, and little trips where a backpack is more convenient that tote bags...

Great pack for short day hikes! It fits the 1.5L reservoir perfectly and isn't uncomfortable for hikes lasting 6 hours or more. There's plenty of room for a small jacket and all of the essentials. I would highly recommend!

This is my 6 year old daughters backpack. It is quite large for her, she is doing longer day hikes with us and just did her first 12,352 mountain. She needs more water than 1.5L, this is the this is the smallest pack that I could get to accomplish that need.
It has ample room for 3L of water, lunch, rain gear, and first aid kit. She still has room to put pretty rocks she finds. I especially like the storage for trekking poles.
I am looking for an 40L replacement pack for myself and Osprey is high on the list.

I was so excited to order this bag for short hikes in a hot climate. The pack will accommodate ample water and a few essentials without the bulk needed for cooler weather or longer treks. The red color is magnificent, and the pack has all the useful features of my Tempest 20 except for an adjustable harness. That said, the pack is best suited for shorter torsos. There is no way the pack would properly fit my 19-inch torso, and I question whether it would fit an 18-inch torso without the yoke hanging halfway down your back. I'd give the pack five stars if the harness is adjustable (the owner's manual claims the shoulder harness is adjustable, but this is not the case). Returned and ordered an 11L Talon.

Best day pack ever! Holds a water bottle on each side for my dog and I use the bladder. A lot of storage. Very lightweight. I wear it every time I head for the hills.

I was reading the reviews and was saddened to see a not so good one... I love my Tempest! I want a new one, only because it is so-so dirty from travel and use. It is my daily driver, I keep it in the car for dogs, hikes, exploring, I take it skiing for snacks, layers, water and goodies, I take it overseas China Great Wall, South Korea Hiking, Europe day trips and for quick outings, hiking, exploring the foreign towns and cities. I am buying a new slick silver one for skiing and day hikes. I'll keep the old one for the doggies and the car. I love my Tempest!

I absolutely love this pack except for one single thing. The pocket to place the water bladder in is way too tight to get the bladder in if has water in it. I absolutely hate loading my pack because you literally have to empty the entire pack, place the bladder in (still with shaking and shoving) and then reload the pack with your things. I gave up and just put the bladder inside the main compartment with the straw sticking out the top.
