Verified PurchaseReview for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I looked at a lot of daypacks to find this one. My specs were: it needed a padded waist belt with pockets, room enough for my camera gear when traveling and hiking, adjustable so it fits my torso for optimum weight carry, small enough for international carry-on, under-seat fit, and no bright colors (not recommended for African safaris). I started with manufacturers like Osprey that make packs for the female torso. I read reviews on several packs and then went to REI to be fitted for this pack. I recommend doing that, because their customer helpers really know their packs, benefits of each and they know how to fit you. At first I thought this rode to high up on my torso, but when adjusted and filled, it hit perfectly where it should. I would have purchased it from REI but they didn’t have black, only bright colors. So I went to Zappos, which has fantastic customer service and free shipping. I’ve hooked round clips on the shoulder panels and hooks to my camera, which I hang around my neck. The pack carries the weight of my camera rather than my neck. See picture.

I just bought this pack today. I am very pleased, I walked home 8 km (with a 20 lb bag of birdseed inside it) and it was a very comfortable fit from the moment I put it on. Upon reading the other reviews I too was able to adjust the side pocket strap to be on the outside (in case I should need both of them) without any difficulty. So far so great!

Tightening strap that is inside of a side pocket is not a defect. It can easily be fixed. You just need to detach it, then pull outside and attach again... I have the same backpack and it took me less than 1 minutes to do it. Just take a look at how it looks on other side which is already fine and then do the same thing. Easy. It's a great backpack.

If you are like me, I like to do various activities within the realm of endurance and just like to spend time outdoors. On my longer, speed hikes, I will go 20-30 miles round trip and will pack my stove, water, food, layers, first aid kit, a full bladder, poles, and mess kit with everything fitting comfortably for the entire day. To add to the comfort level, I have hiked the entire distance with a sports bra one and never chafed after 15-20 hours on the trail. There are plenty of compression straps to secure any load, even just water and dog water bowl on a short, easy hike. With the waist strap, chest strap, and adjustable straps, the load is always really well distributed and the back panel allows plenty of air so you don't overheat. As far as the various activities, I would suggest dry ones. I keep a waterproof pack cover in the pack all the time since it's not very waterproof. Now, after having had layers get wet in a rain storm, I put everything in wet sacs as well as putting on the rain cover, when needed. I don't think this is a negative, just want you to be informed so you are covered in every situation. This pack has gone on every adventure with me for years and the durability is top notch. I have never had a clasp, zipper, or pocket fail on me yet and I have packed it pretty tight at times. The features and pocket placement is so well done, I never forget anything when I go for a long hike as everything has a place, making the likelihood of forgetting very slim. Not only do you having everything you need, it's always in a convenient, designated spot, making stops for your poles, headlamp, or bug spray quick and painless. I've never considered replacing this pack and, because of this pack, I currently own three other Osprey products in the Dyna line along with various accessories. This pack isn't a one-off by this company by accident, the feature mix is spot on to support cycling, hiking, and travel, comfortably.

I used this pack working as an outdoors instructor and wore it everyday for 3 years. I used it on top of that as my go to hiking pack for a couple more years and am super impressed by osprey's durability. I am most satisfied with the fact that when I finally wore it to the ground and broke it, osprey's customer service was AMAZING and they helped me get a replacement. I strictly buy osprey packs now!

This pack has gone with me on trail, off trail, on very well known trails to waaaaay off the grid. I've taken it from 14' mountains to the Mojave desert - to Whitney, Langley, Rabbit and all the big So Cal mountains. It rocks and fits petite me great. It easily fits a 3L bladder plus room for 2 1/2L bottles on the side plus can fit winter gear including puffy, ice axe, crampons/microspikes too and probably a 2nd bladder if needed. I've logged several hundred miles already and it's held up great. Wonderful pack! Great for short to moderate local hikes to extended cross-country adventures!

This pack has held up through the trials of hiking and field work better than I have. Its light weight and hip buckles hold it tight during sketchy "hikes" up and down the side of mountains looking for fossils, while the slim profile makes it surprisingly efficient for squeezing through slot canyons and crowded airports. I can hold up to 5L of water between the hydration sleeve and the side water bottle pockets, which has kept me alive on many a desert hike. The sturdy outside pockets and straps mean I can keep anything I could possibly need handy: camera lenses (never miss a wildlife shot), SPOT/GPS (right on the shoulder strap), and keys (I keep them in the hip pocket and never have to think about them). It seems like maybe witchcraft that such a small pack can hold both hiking essentials and outdoor gear, and yet there I go, cruising up to the crag with all my climbing gear strapped into a tiny, efficient pack and enough snacks to keep everyone happy. The mesh on the outside pockets is susceptible to tearing from keys/pencils, but otherwise the pack itself is resistant to thorns, bramble, snags, and rock chafing in slot canyons, as well as incidentals like getting tripped over, baking in the sun and possibly getting knocked 30 feet down the side of the mountain. Pros: - Weight is distributed spectacularly so it's comfortable even at its heaviest - Hecka straps and nooks for packing your hat/helmet/loppers/rock hammer/chaps/trekking poles/radio/climbing shoes/sandals/basically anything onto the outside - Sturdy: No straps have frayed and no buckles are broken, so in spite of some small tears it's still functional after 2 years of heavy use (mileage that for most will take 4-6 years) - Comfortable. Just seriously comfortable. The hip belt distributes weight, the straps never pinch or chafe, it's well ventilated, and the slim profile means I never feel thrown off balance or bogged down. Cons: - ??

I have used this pack on at least 30 of Colorado 14ers. It is the perfect size whether it's 5 miles or 25 miles. Fits everything I need for a full day of adventure. It may not specifically be used for skis, snow shoes, or my dog but it has definitely held them all. I have used the pack so much the emblem on the pack has now worn off. Which is kinda sad. I wish they made patches so I could put it back on! Amazing pack I suggest it to everyone! Only brand of pack I buy.

I was worried that my 5 10 frame was going to be too tall for the women's version, but tall ladies have no fear the adjustable harness has more than enough length for our torsos. My main purposes for this bag were for day hikes near me and using it as a sturdy travel bag that I can use for hiking and sightseeing at my destination. My first real test of the travel component was my recent trip to Peru, and let me tell you it worked perfectly. It fit under the seat on the airplane fully packed, which is a huge plus. The shove it pocket was perfect for storing liquids in the TSA line and the slash pocket in top holds a passport and phone. besides all of the great features for travel it was so comfortable to wear. I brought this pack everywhere with, on bus, on 8hr walking tours, to the beach. My favorite thing about it though was that when it came time to do various hikes in peru, machu picchu, etc. it felt way better than many other "travel" packs. This pack is the pack that can do it all.

The Tempest 20 women's pack is the most adjustable and comfortable day pack I've ever put on. I was looking for a pack with a comfortable hip belt for long day hikes when I'm carrying water, food, and multiple layers of clothing for weather changes. On this pack, the torso is adjustable which makes it easy to ensure the hip belt sits in the right place. I was hiking for about 8 hours the day after I got this and unlike after carrying my old pack from a different company, my shoulders and back felt absolutely no soreness at the end of the day. I'm totally in love with it - it's lightweight unloaded, carries a lot, and rides light as air. It accommodates a bladder up to 3L, I was told, and I'll be considering getting one for hot/dry climate hikes. Highly recommend this pack!

I use this pack every day to commute on foot or by bike around the city to school and work. I also use it for day hikes on weekends. I can fit my laptop, a binder and a book plus water, snacks and more. It also nicely holds my camelbak water bladder when hiking. The outside mesh pocket is amazing for holding just about anything (especially sweaty work-out clothes and shoes). The zippered hip pockets, helmet holder and other fun features are super helpful and work great!

I went on a day hike with a friend who had this pack and started coveting it pretty much once we got out of the car. 9 miles later I knew I wanted one of my own! I have used it several times and love it! The straps are lightweight and breathable but still soft and comfortable. The waist pockets are stretchy and fit my iPhone 6s easily (even in its LifeProof case). My Osprey 2.5L hydration bladder fits easily in the back and the side mesh pockets fit my 1L Comeback and Nalgene bottles. There are several smaller pockets to hold keys or snacks or sunglasses or whatever small items you might want to keep separate from the main contents of the pack and the trekking pole attachments are very handy especially when the hike requires scrambling over rocks. I got the gray/light blue color combo and think it looks really nice! I haven't used the helmet attachment for a helmet yet but its great for attaching a small hand sanitizer bottle to!

My pack too came with the side pocket defect with the tightening rope on the inside of one side pocket and on the outside (where it should be) of the other. Despite this, I absolutely love the pack. The waist straps take a lot of weight off the shoulders. Its got plenty of space for day hikes or biking. I appreciated the front compartment with drying holes for wet gear especially when I slide down a snow embankment! It is really suited well for a womans frame. I would recommend this pack and if the side pocket anomoly bothers you look for one that has the tightening straps on the outside of each side pocket (as illustrated in advertising). The positives of this pack outweighed this minor issue for me.

Very well made with lots of features and relatively light weight, However, I am returning it. Even though there is adjustment in the back panel, there was no way I could I get it to fit comfortably. I also found the pockets on the waist straps were cumbersome and useless for my needs. I just prefer a simpler pack.

I ordered this at the same time as the Sirius and returned both. The Osprey definitely is much lighter, and would have been my choice had it fit. The point of a padded hip belt is to comfortably carry the weight. I wear size 14 jeans and the hip belt didn't reach half way around. It wouldn't have mattered, the torso length on this is so short the hip belt was at my waist. If you are petite, this would be a great pack. Should come in M/L or even L/Xl. Not all women on the trail wear size 2.

Purchased the Osprey Tempest 20, bag came with side pocket defect. The straps adjusting the side pocket on the left was on the INSIDE of the pocket, hence difficult to adjust and secure anything you put in it. The side pocket on the right had the strap on the outside (which is normal and as shown in the picture). I contacted their warranty department and was told that this defect is how the product is "intended to be manufactured" Makes absolute no sense, and just a lie that they have lifetime warranty. I will not be purchasing this product or any product from Osprey as they DO NOT STAND behind they claimed "life time warranty" scam. There are much better outdoor packs that actually stand behind what they claim. Very disappointed
