I've been wearing Dr Martens sandals for more than 30 years. The Hayden model is different from every other Dr Martens sandal I've ever worn in that the front part of the sandal "grips" (squeezes)the part of the foot that goes there. Loosening the "grip" of that part of the sandal cannot be done because there is a large piece of elastic sewn in there. Based on the pictures of this sandal on Zappos website -- and upon many prior years of experience wearing Dr Martens sandals -- I assumed that strap was there for the purpose of adjusting the fit for that part of the sandal. In the case of the Hayden model, though, that strap is purely decorative ... which is why I had to return these sandals.

These are the ugliest shoe I've ever seen. looks like a special orthopedic shoes.
Way too big-I ordered a 5 but it looked like a 6 1/2
