Cool and comfortable for hiking or a day in the office. Material is soft and prevents "swampiness". Just the right amount of support.

These are a definitive upgrade in my opinion to the regular wool used in the standard boxer briefs, which I've been using for the past 2 years. Just taking them out of the package you can tell the difference the corespun nylon makes. It doesn't have any negative impact on the level of comfort from the old style, but seems like it will last a lot longer as it's heavier duty. I'm really hoping this fixes the only drawback I had with the older style which was how long they'd last before having to buy replacements.

I had a dozen of their old version of this boxer and they ALL have split down the middle (I'm not pushing them size wise) after about 6-8months, with the best lasting about a year. This updated version is significantly thicker and feel like they will last longer than the previous version, which is why I think they stopped making the old kind. That said, I don't notice a big difference in how hot things get down there, even with the added material.
p.s. the commenter who said they are loose fitting must be VERY thin. I am 6' 175lbs and a large pair is tight on my legs.

I bought these to use for travel, and within two days I decided to replace my entire underwear set with these. Unbelievably comfortable. The only con I would note is that I had to size down from other sizes, but that's a sizing issue and not a garment issue. Definitely buy, you won't regret it.

I bought these for my boyfriend and he loves them. They don't ride up on his thighs, which he usually has an issue with, and he said they are very soft and comfortable to ride in.

They run a little small imo. I'm 5'11" 165lb with a 33-34" waist so based on the size chart I ordered a medium and they were tight. Went ahead and chanced it on the large which says 35-37" and they fit me perfect more like a snug boxer and less like a tight brief.

The best underwear I have ever worn. I originally bought two pairs. The day they arrived put a pair on and instantly ordered 5 more. Good work Smartwool!!!

Have had two pairs for about 2 months. I've used them for running, backpacking, hiking, and everyday use. They are really comfortable and never get the nasty smell that under armour seems to inevitably acquire.

These are great for breathability, use instead of swim trunks in the sauna, they really don't compare to any others on the market. The only thing is I wish they lasted longer for the price, they tend to break down sooner than expected

I've been using these merino boxer briefs on multi-day backpacking trips with a simple rotation system - one pair for hiking, one for sleeping. They're also great for day hikes and regular outdoor activities.
What works well:
The quick-dry performance is excellent after sweaty trail days. The odor resistance is genuinely impressive - crucial when you're days away from laundry facilities. I was pleasantly surprised that they don't feel hot or itchy against the skin, which had been a concern with merino wool. For day use or hiking, they're really nice.
Minor consideration:
The leg holes do tend to stretch out over time and lose their shape. Because of this stretch, they become more like boxers than briefs over time on the trail. It's not a major issue, but perhaps a little more Lycra in the leg holes would help with long-term shape retention.
Bottom line:
These are excellent performers for backcountry use, particularly for their moisture management and odor control. The gradual fit change from briefs to a boxer-like feel is a minor trade-off for otherwise outstanding comfort and performance. Highly recommended for serious backpackers who prioritize comfort and hygiene on multi-day adventures.
Best for: Multi-day backpacking, day hiking, any outdoor activities requiring odor control and quick-dry performance

Great, high quality. Wear out a bit fast but they're such a great fit I end up buying new ones anyway.

Purchased as a gift and haven't given it to the receiver yet, so not sure how it will perform.

I've loved smartwool for so many years I cannot count. Its a key piece of my wardrobe, especially for camping and travel. While much more expensive than other boxer briefs, the benefits of the merino really keep me coming back.
Pros:
- comfortable
- many unique great patterns and colors
- the attributes of merino wool are well suited to underwear
Cons:
- expensive
- the newest version of very irritating/scratchy tags that rub on your hip. You will find that you WILL need to remove them
- the material in tends to "run" like a part of panty-hose might run. So they are not very long lasting. I wish they were a bit more durable.
Would I recommend this to others: Yes
Would I purchase again: Yes

I use these as my daily wear underwear. I love that they are moisture wicking, anti odor and breathable. So far they are the perfect underwear for me. However I do wish that the durability was better, I generally get holes developing in the crotch within a year and the fabric gets almost see through. The other issue that I face is that they ride up over time and you have to pull them down. Again though those issues pale in comparison to the breathability of them compared to other underwear I have tried.

The product fits well and is truly soft. Only thing Is after the first wash some stitching was loose, causing questions about long term durability. Otherwise nice underwear!

The merino material makes for a very comfortable boxer brief. Still on the fence about if the cost is worth it. One improvement I'd like to see is making the tags able to be torn off. They're a thorn on a rose.

As a mountain biker, I Love smartwool underwear. Comfortable, breathable, moisture wicking - really everything i want out of athletic wear. But what is with the giant tag inside the underwear?? At the price point, you have to do better than a giant tag rubbing up against my hip.

Very comfortable, but the label is too big and I had to clip it off.
