This is not my first pair of Merrell shoes. These are a very good hiking and walking shoe. The quality and comfort is beyond what is expected. The break-in period took about two days of wearing them over a weekend around the house.

Comfortable and good looking sneakers. Probably my 10th pair of Merrells. I get a lot of mileage from their mid-height boots but have had a little less luck with sneaker models. Last pair was similar to these and lasted 2 years before the outer sole started separating from the body. So far so good with these. The area that typically separates based on my experience seems to be nice and solid on these.

They really need a 12.5. The length on the 12 was a little tight but the heel pocket on the 13 is to big so getting a good fit was tough without added insoles, lacing technique and heel pads.

I hesitate to leave reviews before I've worn the shoes for a good amount of time, but first impressions are that these are going to be excellent boots. I have had a pair of high quality leather Gor-Tex boots for decades and though they're still in good shape, they now pinch my foot when wearing socks and are simply too tight. I was looking more for a work boot that was waterproof, not a boot for heavy construction where you'd need a safety toe, but one to work around my property in wet or sloppy conditions in ravines, etc. and this was what I chose.
This was also the first time I ordered shoes in wide, and I'm very glad I did. Compared to my old boots, these are much more roomy while still being snug enough to hold foot firmly in place.
Three things impressed me right off the bat.
1. They fit and feel great right out of the box. Took a couple mile walk with them and there was no breakin period... they felt great as though I'd worn them a year.
2. After wearing old school leather hiking boots in the past that literally weighed nearly 5lbs a piece (and much more if they picked up mud.), these boots were like heaven. One of the leather boots I still own, though not as heavy as the old school Vasque boots before them, weighs about what both of these MOAB boots weigh. Man.... what a relief! I would guess they're half the weight of leather mid style boots.
3. The sole is a unique design, at least to me. Rather than being flat with a raised heel and a curve towards the toe, as my old boots were, these are essentially flat in the middle, but have a pronounced angle in the front AND the rear. The effect as you walk is like a rocking motion that almost propels your stride.
Since I'm duck footed and my foot strikes on the outside of my heel first and wears in that area quite a bit, these should be great, as instead of hitting the square edge of a heel as you walk, these angled heels hit the ground nearly flat and then rock forward as you walk. Rather than striking your heel and then bending the shoe at the toe with each step, this boot nearly rolls you through your stride. But it's so subtle that you won't notice it, and I think it will be a pleasure to wear these for hikes or longer walks.
The tread is pretty agressive, and for me that was a concern as I often end up with a large amount of sticky mud stuck to my boots, and trying to clean out the intricate pattern on the sole of these will be a challenge. (sometimes the wet clay is so sticky that it will barely wash off with a pressure spray.) Hoping they won't end up picking up 5 lbs of mud, but guess that's something that nearly any boot will do in muddy conditions, unless the sole has a very shallow tread.
I wear slip on deck shoes 95% of the time so was also concerned that lacing and unlacing and tying these might be difficult (I'm no spring chicken anymore.) But I was very happy with the lacing system, that makes loosening them up and also pulling laces tight before tying very simple and easy. It has a nice padded and gusseted tongue, and a well designed heel that provides protection and support without being uncomfortable. I did notice that little tiny balls of material from my socks get embedded in the lining material at the heel, like tiny bits from the socks pilling, which will require occasionally spending a lot of time picking them out, as they seem to stick to the lining material like bits of stuff gets stuck in velcro closures.
Like almost all shoes, the arch in these aren't nearly high enough for my feet. I like to feel the arch, and as with other shoes, I can't with these. I may try an insert and see if it makes the fit worse, but even without inserts, I think these would be comfortable enough. It does have a nice heel cup that supports and stabilizes your heel. The lining in the front half of the shoe is rough and hard, and the included liner only extends in the area you can see it, and then ends about mid foot.
I can't comment on the claim that they are "waterproof" and it was a bit confusing to see this "waterproof" model and then notice a slightly more expensive Gore-Tex model that is essentially the same boot only with a Gore-Tex liner.
I also am leery of the mesh uppers beneath the nubuck leather straps. I fear they won't be waterproof, and will catch mud and dirt and be nearly impossible to clean. But the upside is that it may provide needed ventilation so that feet don't get too hot.
They've got a good bulk to them, a great toe guard and a heel guard as well, but are still very light weight.
All in all after only wearing them a short time, I'm very pleased.

I LOVE these shoes. My last 3 pairs of shoes have been Merrells. I love 'em. I got my first pair when I was working as a janitor and wanted something water proof. I fell in love with them and even though I have changed jobs since then I have to have Merrells! They are strong and very supportive. They last a long time. I get a new pair about 1 - 2 years because I end up getting them cut. They have saved my feet from getting wacked off on a number of occasions so I need to get a new pair. They are sturdy and yet so comfortable that you forget they are on. Seriously, I LOVE 'em! I got this pair in an 8 1/2 and that is perfect. The best I could read from my last pairs label (which was a little cut) was 9 but they were roomy. Still felt comfy. but they were a bit roomy. I got the Merrell Work shoes once but they made me feel like I had Herman Munster shoes on. I returned those and got these. YAY!!! If you are interested then do yourself a big favor and KEEP LOOKING AT ALL THE REVIEWS.

I walk and hike quite a lot and have walked my way through several pairs of these shoes and several other pairs of shoes from Merrell. I have had no problems and haven't found any competing shoes that are as comfortable. When it came time for me to purchase new shoes, the choice was easy.

Ordered these to replace an older pair of Moab 2 shoes. I use them for hiking and working around the yard. Very comfortable and supportive. True fit and nice wide toe box area. Recommend them highly.
I'd also recommend:
Keen seems narrower for my feet.

I liked these hiking boots. I have very very wide feet. They are light weight and easy to get into and fit my feet well. The one draw back which was the deciding factor for me not keeping them is they do not have a cushioned inner sole.

Merrett was my go to hiking shoe but as I’ve aged I seem to need a wider shoe. This was just too narrow for me.

The tongue gusset pinched my foot. I previously bought this in size 9 from another retailer, but it fit weird and pinched my feet, and I didn't return it in time. I thought size 9.5 might work, but no. Now it's too big and it pinched my foot. In time I could break these in, but a light hiker should fit like a glove out of the box.

I had an older version of this shoe and loved them, but this version is simply too hot and non breathable in summer conditions. I do like them as a shoulder season shoe however, but they are not as versatile as they used to be.

I find these loose in the heel when new. I think as the padding gets compressed, I'm able to get them to be less sloppy. I've had Merrell Moab's before, but this is my first try with the "M-Select Dry" waterproofing and it is definitely *not* as good as the GOR-TEX version of this shoe. My shoes are just a few months old and my feet got wet on a drizzly walk today. My previous GORE-TEX pair, which has been relegated to yard work, are still waterproof. If I get another paid of Moab 2's, I will get the GORE-TEX.

Used to love this style of Merrills. These are definitely made cheaper than they used to be. I had the GTX for like 9 years before they broke down. And we’re comfortable right out of the box. I’ve worn these for a few weeks and they are causing a lot of heel pain. And they feel about a half size too small. But they do look nice.

The good-- these shoes are warm and, though I didn't go out in seriously wet conditions, they do seem to be waterproof. I also like the look.
The bad-- I found them very uncomfortable to wear for long. They made me avoid going out tbh. I'm used to hiking 5-10 miles but these made my feet and back hurt after just walking several blocks. I had high hopes but was sorely disappointed.

I am returning them because they sound like they are stuffed with plastic bags. I assume this is the water proofing material and it makes sounds each step. Other than that, they fit great, were true to size and have good arch support.

Can't give it a fair review since I never tried them on... the shoe came with mold on it. I've never seen something like that before.

My Merrell moabs have been the best shoes I have ever owned. They last forever. I just get new inserts every year or so. Rain or snow even deep puddles and my feet stay dry. They are so much better for my knees, ankles and feet. They cost more upfront but last forever. I used to wear out the tread in my shoes and I have never done that with my moabs. I've worn Merrells for 20 years and now that's all I buy.

Love these shoes. I'm an electrician who works outside year around, so having a good pair of shoes is crucial. The Moab 2 is perfect for what I need- very comfortable and waterproof. No break-in period like with boots. Def recommend giving these shoes a try
