Had a chance to demo these at a mountain bike clinic I recently attended and loved them. The shoes were comfortable and breathed well throughout the day. They were a touch narrow but would still consider purchasing. My only complaint are the colors -- the solid grey look like bowling shoes and I've reached my threshold for hot pink on women's mountain biking equipment.

These shoes have completely changed my riding. I recently switched from clipless pedals to some Crank Brothers flats but was wearing some old sneakers with them. I noticed that my legs were fatiguing really early on in the ride and I was focusing more on where my feet were than my riding. Not any more! These shoes are so sticky, I don't even notice that I'm not clipped in. The stiff soles help with leg fatigue and I'm riding faster and further than ever before. Highly recommend!

I bought these for my wife so she could have dedicated mountain bike shoes, instead of wearing running shoes. Out of the box they look great. She wears an 8.5 in all her shoes, I bought a size 9 in these after reading some reviews. She stated that they fit but are snug and feels that a 9.5 would be too big but she definitely couldn’t wear her normal 8.5. On our first ride with them I didn’t hear any complaints about the shoe size, so that was good. She also stated how grippy they were on her flat pedals and felt very confident that her feet wouldn’t slip off while riding. Overall it was a great purchase even though I feel they are a little pricey. I would definitely buy them again.

Love these shoes. I read alot of reviews before buying and I'm glad I didnt listen and size up. I'm a 7-1/2 and I purchased the 7-1/2 and they fit perfect.
I do have a narrow foot so I'm sure this helped me. The length fit perfect my toes do not rub the end of the shoe at all.

Well...these are not attractive shoes by any stretch, which is fine for riding, except that the pink is screamingly loud -- louder than the picture suggests. Why, oh, why does women's-specific gear have to have loud pink? Just a nice black shoe would have been perfectly acceptable. I just couldn't do it. I found the fit good, nonetheless. I normally wear a 38, but ordered a 39 based on the reviews. I think the 38 would have worked fine, but since I plan on using these with thicker socks, the 39 fit the bill. I just wish I had some other choice in color than blazing pink and black, or nurse-shoe bland.
I'd also recommend:

Great fit! Fit true to size for athletic shoes. I don't agree with other reviewers that they fit small. If you wear any type of athletic shoes, you probably size up from your normal street shoes anyway. I love that these have removable insoles. I usually wear orthotics for plantar fasciitis, but because these are stiff, I may not need them. Love the color (black with bright blue accents), and the stiffness help my feet not to ache. I just bought a new bike with mountain bike flat (Platform) pedals with metal pins. I thought the metal pins might tear up the sole of the shoes, but not a bit! They appear very durable at this time....only time will tell! Expensive, but so far, I'm happy with my purchase!

This review is for the fit only. I have not had a chance to try these out on the trails yet. I am usually a size 9 in athletic shoes (Saucony and under armour are my usual favorite brands), but I was an 8.5 in these. Seemed that they run a little large.

I first ordered 1/2 size bigger than what I normally wear based upon the reviews. I had to send those back and get my basic size 10's that I usually wear and they fit great. I like that the stiffness doesn't bother me and they have great sole grip.

Really annoying that these run a full size smaller than the canvas version. I wear a 41 in the canvas, but a 39.5 in these. Get it together, Five Ten! Other than that, though, these shoes rock. I use the pros for outdoor winter riding, and the canvas for summer and indoor riding. They stick to my pedals like glue!

1. Function. These shoes are very good. Based on other reviews, I was expecting a mountain biking miracle. They didn't quite live up to the hype, or the price, but they helped keep my feet on the pedals.
2. Fit. I usually wear 8 to 8.5 in athletic shoes. I have a pair of Adidas skate shoes that are 8.5, so that's what I ordered first. I ended up exchanging them for 8s, which are the perfect length. Believe what you read about the width -- they're quite narrow right at the arch. I have narrow feet, and they're still a little tight when walking. The heel and toe areas are wide enough, though.
3. Style. Ugly shoes, just ugly. I don't know why 5-10 can't do better. I was going to order the gray ones, but I read they looked really cheap and plasticy, so I got the black. The look like orthopedic shoes.
4. Service. Zappos reigns supreme as always. Easy, fast, friendly. I ordered the first pair on a Tuesday, got them, exchanged them, and had the new pair all within 8 days.

If you have a wide foot like me, this shoe won't likely work for you. I normally wear a 7.5 which I first ordered and it was too tight. Not something you want on a long ride. I then ordered an 8 and it was way too long and still a bit snug on the width. The upper isn't forgiving either so it doesn't seem like the type of material that would stretch to foot shape.

The shoe looks great, and is much stiffer than the Freerider Contact, which would be good for biking. Because I am in between a 6.5 and a 7, I ordered one in each size. While I fit a Freerider Contact in 6.5, The Freerider Pro felt small in both the 6.5 and the 7. I believe this is because of the much narrower fit. I am not sure if they would stretch out at all, but I was too worried about the tight spots causing rubbing and ultimately decided to return them.

Let's face it, most women's flat pedal shoes leave a bit to be desired in the aesthetic department. I had hopes that these would look better IRL but they were a bit plastic-y looking. I might have been able to get over that but they were too tight on my feet too. I have a wide foot and run into this a lot with women's shoes but I can't be on a bike for several hours with foot pain or numbness. Trying out the Five Ten Sleuth next.

The new heel cup pinched my heel! I can't believe how uncomfortable this was. I own the Freerider Contact in the exact same size and they are very comfortable just old and a weigh more on my foot. I wanted a lighter weight shoe with more breathability. Its a shame they redesigned the heel.

I wish these shoes worked because the sole seemed very sticky. Unfortunately, the forefoot area was very narrow. Had to return.
