when I found these shorts and ordered them, they arrived and I thought, no big deal. a simple, nice color pair of everyday shorts for knockin' around. no fancy zips or compartments or what I 'thought' I might need for the long runs. SURPRISE!!! these are awesome. a well made (you can feel the quality) durable, dependable, ready to take the hills and the miles through mud, dirt, wind, rain, whatnot. they are now my favorite go-to shorts not only for the runs and workouts but for throwing them on for the warm days of errands, long dog walks, etc. what I love about these more than any other pair of running shorts is the 'feel' of the superb quality. not flimsy, or stiff but just right with a unique Arcteryx feel. no doubt that what I am wearing is Arcteryx. with each product I buy, selectively and cautiously, there is a comfort in the feel and quality that I know will last through it all. I have an 18L soft backpack which has been through it all and still is ready to go everywhere. Something about Arcteryx that, for me, seems spot-on in manufacturing, thoughtfullness of product and selection. These shorts came as a big surprise as what I thought would be a once in a while
is now ready on the chair to hop in all the time--except for laundry days:)

These shorts are tough. I use them for trail running, mtn biking and hiking. I like the hand pockets and the one zippered one. I've got one in each colour so I always have a pair ready to go. They look good for the mandatory post activity beer/coffee.

I have many Arc'teryx shorts. The lighter and softer shorts made for running have failed to stand up to chafing in the lower quad area (gym use with stair master). These shorts are more durable, slightly stiffer than a typical running short. I've used them at the gym and trail running. They are basically perfect. Great pockets, great durability but still lightweight. They would also serve well as a water short for paddling or cooling off in a lake. One complaint is a rough seam fold inside lower thigh area that becomes noticeable after a few miles. But not a real concern. I love them and bought two more.

I was wearing your gamma SL hybrid short for a few years and loved those b/c you made them in XXL. That being said these Aptin shorts surprised me and are fantastic b/c of the really nice lightweight stretch material that they are constructed with. Love the classy deep blue color so much i bought 2 pair and they've been fantastic so far for golf/work/around town/etc as they are not cut too long and stretch/flex to move with you. The only thing i could ask for is for you to make them in a nice stone/khaki/brown color asap (i'm NOT a fan of black shorts at all in the warmer months) and i will buy some more - as you've got a winner here.

Yeah they are a bit $$ - but the shorts will last a lifetime. I love the pockets - and extra pockets inside the pockets - never drop my keys again.
They are like the SUV of shorts.... hiking... swimming ... boating.... everything.

great short for all activities. I took Aptin Short on a weekend trip to CA and used it for running, playing tennis, going to the beach.
i have athletic thighs and this short fits me perfectly. Not too tight and not too baggy. I really like that there is no integrated briefs. this way i can wash only my underwear and use short next day or in the afternoon.
i am 5'9", 169lb, pants 31 waist . have Aptin size S.

Bought these because the summer heat is pretty strong where I live. Very happy with how these feel. They keep me cool and do a great job of shedding heat. Areas for improvement would be the pockets. Would be nice if they were a little deeper since when I sit down sometimes I think my phone will fall out. Also there is a zippered inner pocket inside the right pocket and the metal zipper can scratch your phone, would be nice if they included a zipper garage to prevent this. All in all these are great shorts and I still plan on getting another pair soon.

I was looking for a pair of running shorts that didn't have a liner and could withstand dense trail running and snags on tree branches, etc.
So far these have held up to the tests!
I am 5'10" with a 31" waist and went with the small. The mediums were extremely baggy and the smalls are a tad bit tight - but for running purposes the small works out perfectly!
The inseam on the small is Approx 9.5" which for me hits a couple inches above the knee and is perfect!
I was hesitant at first about running in shorts that didn't have zippered pockets but it hasn't been a problem so far. I'm not sure I would take these out on a long technical hike/run where I would need to carry things... but for trail running to and from my car or for lounging on the beach they're pretty great!
My only issue with these shorts is that the one zippered (semi hidden) pocket doesn't have any covering for the zipper when it's fully zipped. So there have been a few times where it has caught on my mesh running shirt (also Arc'teryx) and has scraped against my cell phone when going in and out of the pocket. It seems like it would be an easy lightweight fix and would make a world of difference to have a small flap for the zipper to rest under and prevent any snags or damage.
Otherwise these are great for people looking for a lightweight and liner-less pair of durable shorts!

I purchased this short for trail running in particular. I like the simple design and it has a perfect pocket that holds iphone or other media snugly, and a small vertical zip pocket which works great for a car key. They are comfortable, quick drying, and are a great length. The design is very simple which I love but there are some nice low key features in terms of pockets. Highly recommended for trail running, backpacking, or other high output activity. Not sure how abrasion resistant they would be but that doesn't matter to me since I only use them for trail running and couch slouching :)

This is a well made comfortable short that misses the mark as "trail running" shorts. These are too long and too baggy and have no liner - all qualities that make them unsuitable for running in my opinion.
They work well for wearing to bed or around camp after a day of hiking. That is likely the extent of their usefulness to me.
I was excited to see new Incendo and Motus running shorts offerings from Acr'teryx. However, neither of these are offered in size XS and the brand decided to upsize the waist across all sizes. Why would you offer a size 28 that has a 29.5" waist?!? Maybe someone wanting a 29.5" waist would buy a size 29 or 30?

I own a number of Arc'teryx products and they are mostly well designed and fit well. The big negative about these shorts for me is that the fabric that was used is intended to be durable (I'm assuming) and is a little stiffer and less supple than I'm used to in a running short. The fabric produces a brushing or swishing sound with every movement. It would be impossible to sneak up on somebody while wearing these shorts. The annoyance of the fabric isn't enough to make me return the shorts, but as far as I'm concerned, Arc'teryx failed by choosing this fabric. Bummer. If they'd used a different fabric, these could've earned five stars from me.
