I wear a 38-40 in most pants irrespective of what type of pant they are. In this style, which is a reasonably narrow style, I bought a 38 and its a perfect size for me. I don't like my clothing tight and this is perfect on the waist , hips and legs. I have slightly bigger calves and it does run a bit tight there but when I undo the zips its fine and doesn't look odd. The quality is really great and the best thing is the lint doesn't stay on this type of fabric. Overall very happy with this purchase
