Daily wear. Wear inside instead of slippers, but heels wear out in time. Is it possible to make the heels more durable?

I wear them to work at the hospital and they are great. I found out about them in an article in the NYT magazine last month. I bought two pairs for me and two for my wife. They felt so good that I gave one to my adult son (he lives in them). Then I bought two more pair for both me and my wife. We decided these would become xmas gifts for all this year. The only negative is they are pulling after the first wash.

I absolutely love these socks and they are so very comfortable. I don't care to wear anything but these now. My only complaint is the colors I want, they are always out of stock on. I have been waiting for quite some time now for the colors I want to come back in stock and that is so frustrating. That is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of this reason. I have no complaints about the socks themselves though, they are amazing.

I first bought these socks from a wilderness outfitter when I was a leader with my son's Boy Scout troop. I needed something that would stand up to the abuse that I put my footwear through. I stand six feet six and weigh upwards of 250 pounds. My boots are a size 16 and I'm often on my feet for as many as twenty hours per day.
When my boy started with the Scouts, I was only fifty years old. I still wore a size 15 shoe and weighed only about 220. The socks were comfortable then and wore like iron. I bought four pairs of the Loden (Forest Green) socks because they went well with the Scout uniform. That was twelve years ago. I still have those socks and they are just beginning to show some wear in the heels. The toes are as new. I wear them every day while working as a wheelchair technician.
My only problem with the socks is that, now that my feet have grown a bit and begun to swell some (possibly related to age), they don't fit so well anymore. I wish that they were available in sizes bigger than 14.5 and roomier than they are. They don't stretch very much, so my son--who has wider feet than mine--cannot wear them comfortably. Otherwise, they are a terrific product. If you have small or average-size feet, you cannot go wrong with these socks.

Every year either my son or daughter-in-law asks for Smartwool socks. They must love them.

They look like they'll be great. They are a Christmas present so not yet tried, so I can't give them a 5 until we try them out and wash them. Note that they do have ridges on them going up and down the whole foot/leg, so if you are looking for something smooth (e.g. for inside ski boots), try a different type of smartwool socks.

These socks are what I've come to expect from Smartwool, very well made and they really help reduce the friction on ruck marches. This particular model is incredibly thick though and that can be a problem if you don't have extra space in your boot or shoe. The extra thickness can create a feeling of your toes being crushed so make sure you have plenty of wiggle room before considering this model.

I have bought one pair of each weight category and when I have them all together its hard to tell which one is which. Smartwool needs to label the sock categories or make the designs of each category more different.

I bought several pairs for general everyday use which would range from casual wear and work to strenuous hiking. I selected medium thinking they would be the right thickness for me, but they were too thick and bulky for my tastes. All my shoes and boots felt tight and the socks would migrate to the toes and feel like they were bunching up. By sizing chart they should have fit. I have had a number of other Smartwool products that have been excellent. Can't wait to move on to different socks. I guess I should have selected a thinner model.

I purchased a few pair of the trekking socks I do enjoy how they feel, lots of cushion.
I would enjoy them more though if they fit better. They tend to bunch up in the heel pocket when I put them in my boot. Which I then have to readjust. This last weekend I went for a hike, and one of the socks. Had folded over a portion of my heel and now I have a blister that is healing.
I will come continue to wear them with other boots because as I said they are comfortable. I just won't be wearing with my hiking boots anymore.

The socks I purchased 10 years ago are still in perfect order, but the ones purchased in the last two to three years are wearing out already and hence not as comfortable in cold Temps.
Why the cutback in wool content? Sheep on strike?
I buy two pairs of the same style every year for at LEAST 10 YEARS

Unfortunately the color does not look like the teal on line, it is a sort of dingy dark blue/green. Also it runs a bit large in the body. Was warm and you could ball it up small but for these other reasons I returned the item. I ended up with the columbia version of this which I like much better and it has a neat inner sleeve that hooks onto your thumb.

I have had these for about a month and worn them a couple times. They are comfortable, sure, but the seam at the toe is already coming apart.

After 20 years of trusting this product, I would have rather had a price increase than the wool reduction. These socks were the absolute best when they were over 80% wool. Four season comfort and lasted for years and hundreds of miles... which must have been the problem that mandated the solution of reducing wool content.
These are now three season socks, because that's as long as they'll last and they aren't quite warm enough for our winters.

I have been wearing Smartwooll exclusively for over 20 years. I guess they thought I would not notice they keep reducing the wool while going up on price continually! When I started wearing these socks they had 83% wool, they have kept reducing the wool and now are down to 66%! I guess I will look for another brand of REAL wool socks!

I was hoping they would fit like another pair of smartwool hiking socks I have, however they are two times too wide for my foot, also, too long. I will return them.
