I love the Lone Peak for hiking since it is light yet gives me all the support I need. What sold me is the rock plate (a must have) for there are many rocky trails in north NJ. Also important is the foot splay since I have mortons neuroma and the splay really helps minimize the mortons from acting up. I only wish you would make it a bit wider since I and many others have wide feet. I did use a shoe stretcher and that has worked fine to widen the toe area just enough. All that to say, Give It a Try, I think it will be your favorite too.

Lone Peak is a great shoe! It is light and provides very good support for my feet and ankles. I have a bunion and flat feet and it provides great support. Unfortunately, for me and other older people like me that could benefit from the shoe, it does not come in a wide. If it did, I would buy this shoe again. It is not quite the width I need (most older people as they age need a wider shoe), and I got a blister on longer walks as a result. Great shoe for younger people though. Most older people should probably avoid until they come out with a wide. If they come out with a wide, I would tell my over 60 friends to jump all over it.

I've been a big fan of Altra shoes since about 2012. I've loved every version of the Torin, Lone Peak, Instinct Everyday shoe I've purchased, and the Lone Peak 3 Mid has not disappointed me. I wear the Lone Peak 3 Mid for long hikes as the sole feels to me to be a bit too stiff for running. It fits just as well as all of my other Altra running shoes, provides the support I need for hiking and is much lighter than the typical hiking shoe. So it's perfect for hiking on rough terrain. Bottom line, it's a great hiking shoe. My only complaint about the Mid version is a personal one; I wish the top two lace eyelets were hooks instead. It would make loosening and tightening around my ankle much easier and allow them to go on/off easier as well.

Considering ( all the facts )1. No other company, has zero-drop & footshap shoes 2. The price is not bad for this specialty shoe, 3. Altra is still a young company.(that means the other companies have been disingenuous : concerning promoting posture and toe space ,with the exception of one other ,foot shape and zero drop is normal(not normal is-elevated heels-crunched up toes.{I am confident that Altra will come out with a more anatomical-oblique toebox and additional forfoot space, end it would be nice to have a brown hiking boot with the granite gray sole .(i'm not looking so much for waterproof(but mainly as said above) I have about 17 pair of Altrs ~ peace.

I love this shoe. I've been an Altra convert and Correct Toes user for 5 years. I have a very wide forefoot and bunions. This is the best I can find. I give a 4.9 because some day I pray Altra creates an even WIDER version toebox.

I love everything about these trail runners, I don't have a wide foot but the wide toe box is still comforting. Ive hiked climbed and ran through tough terrain with ease. Many instances where I should have twisted my ankle, the lone peak 3.0 prevented me from doing so. I even love the unique footprint and one time it was helpful when I was backtracking on a trail in the desert. Great Shoes!

Great for my very hard to fit feet. Large, wide, high arch, planter fasciitis, week ankles and back pain make it hard to find a what I need. I like that my foot can spread out and give my all the balance I can get.

I'm old school and I always hiked in stiffer boots but I tried a pair of these and I'm totally sold. They have made a tremendous difference in my hiking. I hike all over the Rockies on varied terrain and they work well everywhere. I'm almost 70 and they have put the spring back in my legs.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SHOE! I have been a huge fan of the Lone Peak series and the 3.0 and now the Mid are the best edition yet! I know a lot of wide foot people could smash their foot into the forgiving mesh of the 2.5 but the upper protection and toe cap makes for a much more durable and supportive shoe. Perfect for normal width feet or even slightly wide. Remember kids, Altra makes a footshape shoe not a WIDE shoe. Don't hate because your wide foot doesnt fit in a shoe it wasnt designed for...

It's almost a five star. I really like them and have been wearing them almost every day since they arrived. Since I have another Altra model and it is a little too small in my normal size 14, I bought this model in size 15. I hike in them and imagined wearing wool hiking socks but these "boots" are not spacious enough for those socks. I suppose the sizing is running shoe-like, rather than hiking boot like. Just be aware. Then wear thinner socks and have a good time. That's what I'm doing. Happy trails!

I bought this for my husband, who loves trekking up a little mountain every morning. He said that the shoes have been great for his use, that they're good for trails, but not off-trail or in rockier terrain (the footbed is too soft to handle pointy rocks). Other notes: the width of the toe box seems to be correcting a problem with pain on one side of his foot; the shoes don't breathe very well... sweaty toes; he had to buy one size up from his usual shoes (12.5 for an 11.5 foot).

Used for 10 days hiking in Ireland. Absolutely the most comfortable hiking shoe I have ever worn. Wide toe box, snug heel. Waterproof at the bottom portion but not from the base of toe laces up as seams apparently penetrate waterproof shell. All day hike in rain you will have wet feet. If you fill the boot with water, you can see it leak out the bottom of the lacing structure. That being said, almost no "waterproof" boot is totally waterproof. The comfort of this shoe is superb and highly recommend this for trail hiking. I sized up to a 13 as I do for all Altra shoes, generally wear a 12 street shoe.

Fit and cushion is great - use these as my trail runners for the ankle support and water proof, which kept my feet dry through a downpour. Only issue is on wet wood/rocks, these are ice skates. Sketchy sketchy. A bit odd since they are designed for wet terrain. Next gen should fix this issue.

I bought these shoes after dealing with it band issues. They seemed to help a lot right away. The waterproofing isn't water proof but water resistant. It's enough to walk through a small puddle or wet grass but water gets in at the toungue easily. The main problem I have with this shoe is where the hell padding meets in the back is all wrong. It formslike a v instead of a rounded opening and all the padding directly in the back where my Achilles tendon is just tore apart and wore out fast. Now I have the plastic sticking through stabbing me in my tendon and upper heel.

I am on my second pair. Put 500 miles of first pair. The are comfortable and good ankle support. They are not water proof. Barely water resistant. Biggest issue is the soles are super slippery on wet surfaces. PLEASE PUT A BETTER SOLE ON NEXT MODEL! It's a trail shoe for wet conditions

I have put probably;y 400 miles on these shoes. I mostly hike in them. Lots of mud and rocks. Just hose them off when i am home.I like the ankle support. They are not really water proof. More water resistant. A heavy rain and your feet will get wet. They run a little big. I'm planing on getting another pair for winter

I was looking for a lighter weight shoe to use in the shoulder seasons in New England. This probably won't work. On wet trails today the shoe did not provide very good traction on our New Hampshire granite and, while water resistant, I don't think it's up to more than a shallow puddle; it felt like water came into the shoe with just the toe submerged. On the bright side, they're very light and are the most comfortable shoe I've hiked in.

Love my Instinct 3.0 & 4.0. Love my Cayds. Both because they allow plenty of toe room for my wide toed feet. These Lone Peaks seem totally too small. Like I should I ordered a half size or even full size up from the normal 10.5 I usually wear. Also, my high instep takes up a lot of vertical room in my shoes. These shoes seem to lack that room. Even with the laces totally loose they seem to squeeze around the outside ball and top of my foot. And further, the arch support in the shoe seems to be really high on the outside. So that if you are like me and have a high instep to begin with, after wearing these a few times a week for a month, it seems like the outsides of my arch is now moving up as well. My blues one do look really nice though, but I probably have to stop wearing them as they now hurt my feet, thus I'm writing this review. But hey, I seem to be the only review so far that mentions this.

With man hard to fit feet I was hoping that these would be the answer. Unfortunately they did not: After inserting my orthotics there was great toe room, which is sorely lacking in most shoes that I have tried, but the mid foot was very tight even when laces loosened. If a wide was offered I would try those They seem like they could be the shoes that I want if only the mid foot was wider. I will keep trying: Thanks, Zappos, for your patience and great return policy.

Let me start by saying that while this rating (on this particular shoe) is only 2 stars, I have become a HUGE Altra fan, and I am just writing this review to point out a flaw in this shoe. Not even close to waterproof, but let me explain. After a miserable couple years of constant injury and never-ending calf pain, I bought a pair of Escalantes shortly after they came out this year. Now I am happy to say that after spending 2017 building up my mileage again, running ONLY in Altra's, I feel better than I have in 4 years. Just did a marathon in Milwaukee, and planning on another in Gettysburg PA in less than two week, and my calves and legs feel great! So this is not a slam on Altra. I run in the Escalante, the Torin 3.0 (most of my miles), and the Lone Peak for trails. So I am a full-blown, card-carrying Altra convert and fanatic. So it hurts me to say this-But the waterproof/water resistant feature on this shoe does not work. At all. After several mornings just walking in wet grass and getting my feet wet, I sprayed them with quality silicone spray, and my feet still got wet. So either I got a totally defective pair, or the NeoShell fabric does not work. Again, my early wear tests were just walking in wet grass, and my feet got wet. And the really bad news is that I wear a size 14 and the local store where I bought them (support local business, right?) will not take them back!!!! Ugh!!!! I understand that small dealers cannot stock my size in every shoe, but I am very disappointed that they would not work with me on a $160 purchase. And NO, they DID NOT inform before taking my credit card, that "sales were final" on special orders. Anyway... NeoShell provides little to no water protection, and as much as I love to support local businesses, I get better service from the big guys. Altra can you help a brother out??? Local dealer is letting you down...

I took these shoes on the Elkhorn Crest Trail this past weekend. It rained half a day and my feet were soaked. The water stayed in the shoe and it was like hiking with wet sponges as shoes. I would not recommend these shoes in wet weather.

The waterproofing on this is horrendous. It barely works out of the box and after a month and a half of breaking-it-in (daily use: walking around work and school) it was completely delaminated and ripping through on the sides of the tow box. On top of not keeping my feet dry they don't breath - This would be excusable if they did their job, but they don't keep the rain out and they don't let it back out of the shoe.

I had very high hopes that these shoes would be the ultimate in features I wanted in my Altras. I have used the Lone Peak model for several years now on our backpacking trips each summer and the only additional feature I have wished for is that they were waterproof. I had high hopes the NeoShell would fill that need. Long story short, I purchased these back in August of 2016, and the first time I used my Lone Peak 3.0 NeoShell Mids to cross a very shallow stream each shoe immediately (on the first step) leaked at the bottom of the tongue. On a positive note Altra customer service was very prompt and helpful in allowing me to return them for a full refund. Altra is still hands down my favorite footwear, but for now it looks like I'll have to keep waiting for that "perfect" (for me) waterproof Lone Peak model.
