This is going to be long, because I really really studied before buying this boot. Although experience has taught me to withhold final judgment till I have walked out in the snow, I have been giving these boots a test run without them to see how they feel in other ways in real circumstances, and am giving my review at this date [subject to change if things alter] - it is Nov 28.
Why so careful? Because in the past I bought a Northface boot that fit me so well, excited me so much, almost too well - hard to put on over my heel at first - and we had blizzard deep snow early that year, so those Northface boots went on my feet and out in it from the box with no chance to change them out when I found my toes were too cold and my foot started to hurt on one boot. I could NOT wear those NF boots all day without problems.
Anyway, it was a HUGE investment for me to go ahead and order the Pajar CANADA Paytin boots. I have NEVER spent this amount on boots or shoes, and studied a number of other possibilities for a long while, thinking about my own feet and legs, and such.
So here goes - I have narrow feet and wide calves. So many awesome boots are too narrow on the calf for me. I have advanced OA [OSTEOARTHRITIS] - I also usually need to put in inserts, and then thick winter socks - not only for warmth, but for making boots fit securely and also sweating! ... so have learned not to go too narrow or too short in a boot. These not being in American sizes, and I wear normally an 8.5, I went with 39 which they said was 8.5 - 9, I believe.
SIZE - The length seems perfect with some space at the toes for both socks and air circulation.
SUPPORT - The footbed is moderately supportive, so I have worn them so far without any other insert. So far, felt really balanced, and easy to walk in with a SECURE STANCE.
TEMPERATURE / INSOLE OF BOOT - I first wore them with a normal sock. as it was not snowing, and not so cold. and the outcome was mixed. The insole on these boots is supposed to have some sort of thermal dots to reflect heat. I had the odd sensation of my feet being a little cold, but also sweating. I found my feet did indeed leave some sweat on those socks, but my feet were temperate when I took the boots off. I tried a different pair of socks and they slipped a lot. Then I wore them again with thicker wool mix socks and they were comfortable. I think it is a matter of finding the right combination for each person. What I have noticed in general about myself, if I wear one item of clothing warmer than others' like fleece pants and a light top, I become very aware of being either too cold or too hot in each area. These Pajar Paytin boots have furry lining all the way down but not on the bottom. Super comfy. A pair of other shortie boots I have with fleece in the bottom do make socks slip a lot. I want to see what happens if I add fleece inserts into the Pajar boots, but haven't tried that yet.
SHAFT DESIGN - LACES AND 2 SIDE ZIPS = Mostly positive for me. As I said, I have thick calves. I have never found a tall slip-on boot to fit my calves. Lacing up boots can be tedious. Sometimes the laces are not so good, and sometimes pulling on them often breaks the attachments. The Pajar Paytin is just a little narrow around. The tongue is entirely separate down, and one boot seems to have this problem more than the other [or maybe my left leg is wider?] So someone who is often walking through deep snow and has the same or even wider legs might be less than thrilled. However, here are 5 super positives -
1] the fur inside is so thick and keeps the tongue in place, creates a snow barrier for any exposure.
2] both sides have zip gussets! You can unzip these and the lining inside each zip keeps you covered even if open. This is generally intended to give a little more air circulation when needed, but they appear to be waterproof, or at least water repellent, so could be left open some. I do not need to leave them open at all to fit.
3] The laces are super thick but flexible and easy to pull tight. Once set in place, it is rare to need to retie. I simply zip a gusset open on one side partway, slip on the boot, and zip it back up. I find it easy to zip with my leg up across my opposite knee rather than foot down.
4] The gusset zippers also help you tuck your boots in easily and smoothly!
5] WEIGHT IS GREAT - When I saw the weight listed, I was worried these boots were going to feel heavy. I studied other boots to compare, and these were much more to a bit more than other boots. However they looks so much sturdier than the lightweight boots, and got better reviews so I went ahead to try them. Very glad I did, because the weight is very evenly distributed. They do not feel heavy to walk in at all!
They look great! I love the look - and have had compliments every time worn so far.
So it hasn't snowed here yet to get the full test completed. But I have worn them now 4 times in real day to day conditions. On super cold day, on semi-cold day. I wore them driving for 4 hours to family on Thanksgiving. On the return trip, it took over 5 hours, and it was warmer, so I took them off at about 4 hours.
WIDTH OF SHAFT - This boot might not work for someone with very wide legs or very skinny legs, but average to somewhat wide.
WIDTH OF FOOT PORTION - This boot worked for me without inserts but is not tight or loose. Thus I think it is a bit narrower than most marked the same normal M width, but might be fine for someone who is really average and not towards the wider range. I have no idea about stretch as well.
Zappos is so great about free speedy delivery and returns. If in doubt, I say buy and try, no good send them back.
I buy ALL my shoes from Zappos. Seriously. This order arrived in 1 day.
I have ordered from here now for years. Last order - 4 pairs of shoes ordered at once, and I had an unusual problem with it not arriving! We eventually found a new part-time delivery person from UPS had taken it to the wrong house. It was recovered and returned. But Zappos did not wait to figure out what had happened. They simply sent me a new box with all the same shoes. I kept 3 of those and easily returned the 4th.
THANK YOU ZAPPOS!

I was so hoping these would work out for me. I have a back back and was looking for a boot that was easy to get off and on. These fit the bill perfectly with zippers on both sides of the boot plus the lace-up feature. They are very easy to get off and on. I ordered a 41 as I usually do and found them to run too narrow for my wide feet. The heel cup was very stiff as well. They were not comfortable for me so I am returning.

These boots are shown with red laces, but they arrive with grey and black laces. I have ordered two pairs and they both arrived without red laces.
