I wanted to love this bag! It is a simple but clever set-up to allow you to convert this from a small to a medium bag. I also love that it has a color on each side, especially the ember color, and sturdy side exterior pocket zippers. There is just too much going on for this bag to maintain its simple style: I found the clips to be a nuisance. When reading the other reviews, I doubted that unclipping then unzipping the bag would be too much. However, when you add that to the other features I found to be too busy, it was too much for me. I found the black strapping that spaces the d-rings away from the bag to be distracting, especially if you don't clip the lower d-rings to the clips (as shown in the first photograph). The extra d-rings flapped around while I walked and reminded me of little t-rex arms. I also found the tail of the zipper (how the zipper unzips past the edge of the bag) to be one more busy item on what could have been a really simple, multipurpose bag.
