Loved the old one and went to buy new. Love the addition of compartments, and of course materials look great. However the knuckleheads took away the hand straps to carry the bag! That means that when its heavy and you want to just pick it up quickly, you dont have a way! Moreover, when you want to just carry something not "inside" the bag but on top, the hand straps were a great way to keep stuff secure enough. Now you have none of that. Seriously, TNF: bring back the old straps!!!

I bought the base camp because I had read good reviews. Unfortunately, The North Face quality has gone down hill. After my second use, the straps began ripping apart from the padding and a hole opened up in the bag. I was traveling while the rips happened, and I contacted North Face customer support, hopeful that they would help. Unfortunately, they were completely unhelpful and offered up no solutions whatsoever. This will be my last North Face purchase. I was really hopeful about this bag because of the features, but the build quality on these things is just terrible. Purchase at your own risk, and be prepared to buy a replacement bag while traveling, as I had to do.

I am currently travelling across Europe and this bag hasn't even held up on my first few days. The seams have torn and the webbing material that is used for the handles has completely ripped the bag fabric away so there is a huge hole in the bag! Brand new. Pretty poor quality. The real kicker though is that after repeated attempts to contact TNF I have not even gotten an email back from a customer service member. So poor. I will not be counting on north face in the future for this reason. There are plenty of other companies that will help when you have an issue with their product in the field and I will be shopping with them in the future!

I was excited to buy this product as Northface normally makes very reliable and durable products. I went on one trip with it and had only 44lbs inside (it was weighed at the airport). As I was taking the bag to the baggage check in, the seam that connects the top of the shoulder strap to the bag completely came apart. Extremely disappointed and frustrated that I paid that amount of money on a bag that couldn't even make it on one trip.

I have the large bag and use it constantly. Great Bag. Needed a bigger bag for longer trips, and got the XL. Then I realized it didn't have the wrap around hand carry handles. Worthless to me without 'em. I returned it.

I own the older style duffle which is a medium and it has served me very well and i have been super happy with it. I went and bought the newer style taking a chance since I need a new bag and it is just horrible. The inside is way smaller then the older medium and even taking into account the outside pouch i at them next to one another. it was an obvious difference with $ inches missing and the the end compartment taking up even more room. I have never used the backpack straps in all these years and only the velcro hand straps. I dont even want this new style bag at all. I have been searching for an old one...

I have been using you bags for years. 1 ea. Small, med and large. Wanted a new med. size. I never use them as a backpack, have always wished it just had a shoulder strap. I get my new bag and some design genius has taken the handles off. The new end pocket is a nice added touch, but the little side handles are just plain stupid. Patagonia is calling my name.

I own a couple of these bags and just wanted to buy a new one when I saw the new models. They removed the bassic carry handle straps, moving the "single" dual strap supported handle in the previous models to the sides. This is a weaker design and you can't carry the bag upright with one hand. Please bring back the straps for the handles!!! pls pls!!!

They ruined this bag by removing the wrap around handles. The new handles and strap systems make this bag much less usable and susceptible to tearing. I work at an airport and would not put this bag on a baggage system. The old handles were much easier to use making it the old bags great for outdoors and travel. Not the new bags!

I too ordered these bags (a small and a medium) after hearing rave reviews from friends - and even seeing the bags in action. But when mine arrived I quickly saw that without carry handles, getting it in and out of vehicles or quick grab and goes, Would be terribly inconvenient and frustrating. Hope you guys correct that Next season. I am returning these, but would buy them with that simple fix.

I love these bags. I've got lots in all different sizes. I need a new XL and Med but I won't be buying them from TNF. The removal of the carry handles is a deal breaker for me. I use these straps with my existing TNF duffels all the time and the new handles on the side look pointless. Why change something that was great?

I only ever leave reviews if I feel strongly about an item!!! Bought the xl duffel yesterday after friends said it's the best bag ever for all round use......got it home to find that north face no longer put top handles on the bags... how can a bag not have handles!!!! Anyway bag returned rant over!!!19/12/16

I used my previous bag for nearly 15 years. Finally had to buy a new one, and man was I disappointed. The removal of the wrap around carry handles absolutely ruined this bag.

Have previous models of the bag, liked the quality and design. Bought another one and was highly disappointed - carry handles have been removed, and shoulder straps are not as solid as they used to be. Returned the bag to the store.

I don't like this product at all and returned it. I went and looked for something like it and found the patagoina duffle. It has everything I wanted in this bag and it's better quality.
