This model has a hidden secret. It’s not in the description. The top layer of the sole is made of Polyurethane or an equivalent. All major expensive hiking/military boots have this. What it does is it provide an incredible shock absorber. Don’t know why they appear to hide this but it is so much better than the rock hard layer on the sole of cheaper boots. It’s called ZORB by Keen.

Just wanted to add a comment to my previous review- regarding the height of the Gypsum II. As per their pictures, to me it appears the Gypsum is taller than the Targhee II’s; but actually they’re approximately the same height. Although the Gypsum has more shoe lace eyelets, they’re closer together.

I got these for work. I work outside in the rain and snow and these keep my feet dry and warm all day. They're very comfortable and I would purchase again.

These boots worked perfect for hiking the San Juans in Colorado. Kept my feet warm and dry.

Nice boots, but pricey in my opinion. Also, a tiny bit narrow but some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle applied liberally to the tight areas of the boot made them fit perfectly.

I love this boot. My feet are on the wider side, so I always have blisters on my little toe with hiking boots; but not with these. I went on a 2 week road trip and put in about 40 miles on them and had zero complaints.

My husband really like the shoes for work buys only Keen.

These are awesome! I'm a woman who has always worn rugged boots like these for the last 30 years or so. These are the best I've ever come by. They look great, feel great, and have great construction. I've been wearing them about 2 weeks. Buy these!

These shoes are very comfortable. I ordered one size bigger than usual.

Out of the box felt very stiff, narrow and the color is much darker than the photos, I was slightly disappointed. After only a few days breaking in the fit is perfect, sides have stretched out, the liner has softened up and molded to my foot and I'm quite happy with these boots. They are very lightweight, feel more like a sneaker than a true boot though the sole is quite stiff and supportive, don't feel like every little rock will burst through. Mesh upper is breathable, my feet aren't getting too hot, but I can see where it will be a magnet for thistles and stickers. Laces are fabric, which I generally dislike because they stretch over time, we will see how these fare. Other than the color being far darker than I expected there's nothing at all wrong with these boots and I'm happy with my purchase. Definitely can recommend them if you like the style.

Keen Gypsum are my go to boots.. they are by far..the best fit and feel for a comfortable hiking boot, that I wear on a daily basis.. Straight out of the box, No having to "break them in" time table.. and to top it all off, is ordering from Zappos..! usually next day delivery

Just like my Targhee II’s, these Gypsums are a great fit and so comfortable. The India Ink/Burnt Orange look great with any color pants but really nice with black pants. Ordered a 1/2 size up since I use an extra insert and thick socks.

These boots looked and felt great for my husband. We returned them because he was looking for something slightly less rugged to wear to work in the winter.

I'm a long time fan of Keen and still am. Tried the boot in 9.5 first. The fit was too narrow, making me think I needed a larger size. Tried a 10 and were a little wider, about the right width, but the additional half size was too big and my heels kept lifting too much. Not had an issue with Keen medium width until this experience. The return policy on Zappos is great but I think I'll try some boots on at a brick and mortar store then I order my next pair through Zappos.

Love the boot but the Keen utility boot 9.5 size that I ordered previously fit well, if slightly large. This boot in 9.5 barely fit my foot. Will order in a 10 but curious the disparity in fit.

size was perfect but a bit tight on width

I had to return the shoes because when I went to tie the show the shoelace broke. The shoe felt and looked great, but the shoe laces were not high quality.

They have changed the material of this boot so you will need to order 1/2 size larger than normal.

Bought a pair last Oct. Sole is already separating from boot to the point where feet feel damp. Too much money, not enough boot.
