I bought two pair- one for each of my sons (10 and 13). We needed good hiking shoes for a March visit to Yosemite. After hiking Mt Rainier in running shoes I never want to hike again with a more stiff, substantial sole. (Scary!) Our home is in a part of TX where it's hot all year, so I didn't want to buy anything too heavy or they would only be used on our trip. These are a good trade off. They are waterproof and have a substantial upper. They will be usable in our warm climate especially in wet conditions and will be good for the snowy Yosemite trails. The sole is wide with lots of stability and a good solid tread. The insole has only light cushion and the arch support is not terribly substantial. I will purchase separate insoles to give them more support. Unlike a lot of hikers this uses actual tie shoe laces which is a bonus in our book. The shoe runs narrow, especially in the toe box. My youngest had very narrow, long feet so it was not an issue. My eldest usually wears a medium width and I had to go back and order a wide width because it rubbed on the sides no matter how loosely we did the laces. Overall a good shoe. Had the boys been older and their foot had stopped growing, I would have gotten them Salmon. I purchased those for my husband and aside from the drawstring cord (not bad, just a little annoying), they are the superior shoe for cushion and arch support.

I need waterproof shoes for outside life in PNW,so I often have to go to men's shoes for options. This Columbia North Plains II Waterproof kept my feet dry in rain and walking thru wet grasslands. However I did find that it didn't breathe well and my feet were fairly damp at the end of the day (even on dry days). Shoe and tread are light in weight but substantial. I walked over sharp rocks with good grip and no discomfort. Footbed is comfortable, but arch support is only mild. I would need to supplement. Sizing runs small. I was given a size larger than I would normally order and it almost fit. It was a size that should have fit another family member and they could not get a foot in shoe (too small). So order up a half or full size. Width true to size. Nice cushioning but shoe top behind tie, above instep rides too high for me.

Very well-made and comfortable, although the sizing is very small. I'm normally an 11 regular, and had to exchange for an 11.5 Wide for a proper fit.

I got these shoes for my teenage son. He really feels that the Columbia North Plains II waterproof are awesome. They fit comfortable and feel very light weighted. He used them to go hiking over wet grass and his feet didn't get wet. Then he got into a river with them and when he got home he put them in the dryer and dried very fast. He absolutely loves them.

What a surprise these shoes have been! My 9 year old son is very tall and has large feet. To say he's hard on shoes is an understatement! These shoes have been wonderful for him. LOVE that they are waterproof, have a nice arch, and are easy to get on and off. But most of all, they are still comfortable after a long day of wear. The rubber toe area is great when hiking and being active. For such a sturdy shoe, I'm amazed at how light this shoe is. My son has complained in the past about similar shoes being so heavy. Extremely happy with this shoe!

Wanted to love the Columbia North Plains II hiking shoe because of its solid, rigid insole and aggressive lugs (perfect for hiking and climbing) but unfortunately, they were just too snug. Suggest you size up at least a half size to get a comfortable fit. The shoe is attractive and the verdant/golden yellow color combo looks like it would still look clean even with a coat of trail dust on it. Because this pair was just too tight, couldn't really test them out on the trail and see just how waterproof they are.

Have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the hiking shoe look BUT these are pretty versatile and functional. Extremely comfortable and lightweight but still very sturdy for walking the streets or doing a little hiking.

I'm shocked there are any positive reviews for these shoes. They are very uncomfortable. They feel at least a half size smaller and there's absolutely no arch support. I tried to give them a chance but ended up with blisters and cuts. Couldn't imagine going hiking or walking around the city in them. For $80 I was expecting much better quality. Disappointed! This isn't a refection on Zappos. I have found great shoes from here in the past. However, I'm hoping Zappos will take these shoes back. Otherwise I'll be finding a new retailer to purchase shoes.

the columbia north plains 11 waterproof shoe is a well made shoe. it seems to be be very sturdy. i received this in size 9 1/2; had both my husband and one of my sons (who both wear size 9 1/2 shoe, m width) try this shoe. both felt it was a bit snug in the toe (length) and across the width of the shoe. i did do a search upstairs in my husband's closet and noticed all his shoes, sport and dressy are size 9 1/2, EXCEPT a pair of columbia shoes similar to this pair in a size 10! so, it seems columbia's size differs from other brands. something to keep in mind. otherwise, both my husband and son said they would like this shoe if they had it in a size 10.

This waterproof shoe is a nice, comfortable, low profile shoe. Got them for my husband who is very particular about shoes and he loves them. We're waiting for some rain so he can try out the waterproof feature.

Having enjoyed the previous model of the same shoe, I bought these. They share the same hard plastic shank under the footbed that gets more irritating as the shoes age, but I've had Keens and Merrels with that SAME problem. Aftermarket insoles help a lot. I wish they had a non-waterproof option, as they seem rather warm. Overall, they are a decent value for the money. Equivalent Merrells cost double what these do. Traction is good for my light non-technical uses. I was leery about the little cloth tapes that hold the strings and the seemingly sharp-edged top plastic lacing fixture, but both have held up.

Nice sneaker, but narrower than labeled. Get (at least) a size wider than you normally would. Length size seems correct.

The Columbia North Plains II is a great looking shoe, but it is too narrow for my foot. I am a female who typically orders a men's style in outdoor/athletic shoes due to having a wide foot. I replace the insole with a Superfeet insole for the consistent arch support I need. This shoe was too narrow in the toe box for my foot.

Sending back because they are too narrow and size seems to run about a half size too small. I tried these on with thin socks- there definitely wouldn't be room if I used thicker ones. Disappointed.

Virtually no padding within the shoe itself, you can feel every single tread pattern. Feels like a very cheap shoe for a high ticket price.
