My husband received the Columbia Bugaboot II boots, so this review is actually from him. I found them to be extremely comfortable right of the box. They required no break-in time at all. The experience was very much like wearing a pair of new, high quality running shoes for the first time. These boots are accurately sized and fit as well as his normal running shoes of the same size – albeit with just enough room to accommodate appropriate weight hiking socks. The insoles included with these boots were thin and lacking in arch support. Both off-the-shelf and custom orthotics fit perfectly however, and improved the overall support and comfort. Lateral ankle support was excellent. These boots felt very sturdy on the trail – even when side hilling. Yet, forward motion was almost unimpeded allowing for a normal and comfortable gait. The Omni Grip soles are appropriately named. I found the traction to be excellent over varied terrain including loose rock, sand, and even smooth granite. These boots seem very light for a product that is this warm and supportive. After a long day hike that I have completed many times before, I felt no more tired than if I had been wearing trail shoes. This particular day called for boots due to the recent rains, and fording the many season creeks was a dry and pleasant experience in the waterproof Columbia Bugaboot II boots. While I have yet to be able to test these boots in very cold weather – the manufacturer’s hang tag claims they are good to 25 F below – I found them to be comfortable while hiking at 80 degrees and also while sitting motionless at 40 degrees.

I got the Columbia Bugaboots in my normal size 9.5 and they fit great! These make you want it to snow a blizzard outside and go for an old fashioned game of king of the mountain, because that is how you feel in them! Tough, warm, comfortable boots - love them!

These Columbia Bugaboot II are true to my size 9.5! I have wide feet with high arches so I normally order up a 1/2 size but these fit perfectly. Also, wore them in a wet snow and they kept my feet dry.

This is a true story...I was writing my review for these terrific Bugaboots, not quite finished, when my kitty stepped on the touchpad submitting it anyway. Please see my review part l, but it is important I add this...the Bugaboots II from Columbia are super comfortable AND easy to adjust which can be an issue with these higher lace-ups. The black is very nice-looking.

What a surprize! These Columbia Bugaboots II arrived for me to review just in time for winter! They fit my picky son very well. They are warm, comfortable and appear to be waterproof (too early to test in snow). Stylish to boot!

My husband tried on this boot, the Sorel 1964 Premium T, and the Keen Durand Polar. We kept the Keen, but he liked all of them. He thought the Columbia boot was tighter around the ankles, that the Sorel was almost too loose around the ankles but comfortable, but the Keen boots were just right.

Got a great price on these. Boot is warm and comfortable. I'm glad I got the wider model as I wear heavy socks with these and I have a wider foot. Normal width is usually OK with most other shoes.

Very comfortable boots. I compared to these to similarly priced North Face and Sorel boots and these were by far the best.

I have 2 older pairs of Bugaboot II that I've worn for 10 yrs or longer and was very happy with. The pair I just got are different design but seem quite comfortable. My only issue is that the sole on the left boot is arched up in the center so fits tighter than the right. I will be sending them back for different pair

If you have a large foot like I do (size 15d) this boot will feel at least a half size too small and VERY narrow, I may try try order the same boot in a larger/wider size but I do not think they make it and may just haveto suck it up and pay the price to order another Baffin.

Great boots, warm, comfortable, totally waterproof. The loops for the straps are driving me crazy, as they wear out and break. It is a terrible design, with no good fix. My boots are in excellent condition after a lot of use, but the loops have been replaced over and over.

Replacing an old pair that served me well. Expect the same with this pair. Fit and finish is as expected. Good traction in snow and mud.

These are a very rugged pair of boots that would certainly be great in the winter (but they are quite warm, so I wouldn't recommend them for warmer weather). The waterproofing is really nice on this shoe and I believe it will last some time. Another great thing about this boot is that it has very good ankle support and fits nicely. The only negative about this boot is that doesn't happen to be the most attractive pair of boots, but, as utility goes, they're perfect. If you're looking for a pair of attractive boots and you don't care about their performance, then you certainly wouldn't want these boots.

I found the Columbia Gunnison Plus hiking boots super rugged and comfortable with great ankle support(I have no arch and narrow feet)Very warm, too hot for summer but good fall-spring. Nice waterproofing. Size ran a bit small I went up a half size.

The Columbia Bugaboot II is mainly a cold weather mid-calf boot that could be used for other rugged applications based on the waterproof design and tire - like treads. I tried on the boots and noticed how warm and comfortable they were once fully laced to my calf. The walk in the boots are much lighter per step compared to my 2 year old Timberland chukka's I would normally wear in cold weather. The boot is complimented with modest styling that would appeal to those(like myself) who loves seasonal cold weather especially when it snows. Pros: Very light and warm boot. Comfortable fit. Waterproof and tire like treads for snow or rugged terrain, and moderate styling. Con: Sneaker like shoe strings that could unravel often. Would be better if it had an overlapping Velcro strap to hold shoestrings.

I've had a pair of Columbia Bugaboot II for about a week. When I first put them on they seemed tight even though they are 11 1/2 and I usually wear 11. They were a little cold and after they warm up they get better but I still think they are about a 1/2 size small. They are quite comfortable but a little stiff. Wear long sox. The tops rub on my shins and could be a problem if you wear them for hours. In general I would say the Columbia Bugaboot II is a good warm waterproof boot. They are supposed to keep your feet warm down to -25. Hasn't been that cold yet fortunately so I don't know about that.

If you're like me, you look at this boot (and all the positive reviews) and think it will be a great boot for cold and snow, especially since it's "Rated for -25°F/-32°C weather." Well, I was disappointed to have freezing cold feet in Alaska recently (temps down to -10°F). I tried one and two pairs of wool blend socks. I finally had to give foot warmer inserts a try, and that was pretty much the only day my feet weren't freezing. My feet were getting sweaty, which I assume could attribute to them getting so cold. But they were most sweaty on the day I used foot warmer inserts but also warmest. Overall, I'm disappointed that when I'm wearing these boots I apparently need to wear foot warmer inserts every time I'm going to hike through snow and be outside in near or below 0°F weather. At least there were comfortable, durable and fit well.

I want to start by saying this: I bought these boots primarily for work as a meter reader. My job is notoriously hard on boots as I’ve gone through Keen’s in 4-6 months. In the past however I’ve had good luck with Columbia’s. They’ve lasted 12-13 months. This is why I bought these boots. Unfortunately these particular models have been a huge let down. While I will say they are very warm (they’ll make your feet sweat in warmer months, but keep them plenty warm in the winter. Even down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit.) and they are reasonably comfortable, they have one major design flaw: the lace loops. You see, the ankle shaft is too narrow on this model. Making it difficult to move your foot in and out of the boot. So you constantly have to stretch the laces out and re-tighten them. And the loops the laces go through don’t allow them to travel well, causing a lot of tension, and eventually the loops snap. In less than 4 months of wearing these boots I’ve had 8 loops snap. Ironically the laces themselves have stayed intact, which is usually the issue that I have. I can no longer properly tie these boots, making them hang loosely off my feet. If you’re planning on using these boots with any kind of frequency or like to pull your laces tight I’d highly suggest staying away from these boots.

These boots worked well initially, but after only 2-3 years of limited use, the uppers started to detach from the rubber bottoms. Columbia refused to stand by their product when I sought a repair or replacement. If you want a quality, long-lasting winter boot, avoid Columbia and go elsewhere.
