This review will be short, in comparrison to the review of the phase AR zip. See that for more information. The fit and fabric of this baselayer is incredible, fitting perfectly underneath my atom al, cerium lt, or gamma lt. This fit of the shirt is tight, but also flexible per the range of motion for classic skiing. The shirt easily tucks into pants such as the stride tights or the gamma lt and stays in place. At first, this shirt takes a few minutes of exercise to retain heat, so there might be a slight shock of feeling cold. However, during prolonged periods of exercise, whether hiking, backcountry snowhoeing, or high-intensity nordic skiing, this layer does incredible at maintaining warmth, letting extra heat, escape and maintaining a dry environment within your skin-baselayer contact zone. Highly recommended for any activity that is above winter walking.

This is the top I use when I'm not going to be on the move as much hiking and need a nice toasty base layer. I use the SL for speed hiking, this one is great for just exploring and strolling around. Throw a naga on top and my atom jacket, and I'm good to go. Keeps me dry and is comfortable all day long. I am 5'10 192 lbs and went with a large, which fits great. No complaints whatsoever.

This is a very good base layer for me. I'm a warm person and this base layer isn't too hot, breathes well and quick drying. Also, it looks pretty good and you can easily go to a dinner after. I'm a big guy and the fit is nice, not too tight, like many base layers.

I've had the phase ar for 3 months and have used it 12-15 times or so so here's the lowdown. I baught this product as a moisture wicking baselayer for mountain biking and high output hiking in Florida so we don't need the warmest products but all around usage. Biking in the morning at 30-40 degrees turns to 60-70 in a few hours so we need versatile clothing. The phase ar is great. It keeps your core dry. The moisture transfers to your 2nd layer. I can feel that my 2nd layer is moist but the phase ar is dry. It's not the warmest base layer but it's not what I need. I need to stay dry. I can add 2-3 more layers to stay warm. When it warms up, I strip the outer layers off and just use the phase ar as an outer layer and it performs really well. In 74 degrees I was never hot or sweaty. It breaths really well so it's not exactly wind resistant. The cons are that the material is not that soft or comfortable. Not horrible, but not great. The Rho ar and lt are much softer. But it's a technical piece so I'll live with the trade off. Also, it's not the warmest, but it's not designed for that. Lastly, I wish it was a little more tight fitting. I wear a large and it's not as tight as the Rho ar or lt. it's fits well but not tight like most base layers.

I know I stated somewhere within the ecosystem of Arcteryx reviews & comments that I didn't plan on running in my Beta LT unless chased by a bear, the taleban, or a mother-in-law - but today it happened, while wearing my week old Phase AR (crew). For a reason beyond my control I was meandering about in 5 C/40 F climes when I suddenly found out I had to be some 3 km elsewhere in 15 min - or unimaginable else. I set off on a run wearing approach shoes, the Phase AR, a 100 weight microfleece, and a Beta LT. I made it on time, near immediately after which I took a 15 minutes walk to a place where I could peel off the layers and shower. Here's the state of moisture at that point: My skin was as good as dry with only a barely perceptible sense of moistness to the touch. That moistness was gone after but a minute of butt nakedness. Unbelievable! I've peeled off less layers after similar levels of perspiring exertion to be covered in lacunas & rivulets of sweat - and this when my base layers have been LS synthetic compression/wicking tops of many a high profile sports brands. Again, I was blown away by the performance of the Phase AR. I know I was hoping, like an unbearable fanboy, that the Phase AR would deliver on the hyped up promise of "Phase is amazing after trying everything out there and now it's the only thing I use" - made to me by a salesperson pitching Arcteryx gear. Deep down however, I never imagined I'd experience much of a diff when donning the Phase AR when compared to my collection of hitherto go-to synthetic base layer tops. So pleasantly wrong I was. The 100 microfleece felt dry and the inside of my Beta LT was pretty wet. Now I feel like I've gotta head out some day soon and subject that same outfit to a 10 click run, just to see what the build up of moisture on the inside of the Beta LT amounts to (not that I ever harboured expectations that it should handle the amount of perspiration generated by being so overly insulated at that temperature range and level of exertion.). A gear junkie will be a gear junkie. But this review is about the Phase AR - and this is about how insanely well it performed beneath the Beta LT's Pro membrane. Perty darn wicked, me say. Perty darn wicked indeed. Bring on the grizzly bears et Co!

This is my second Phase AR and the first in the revised version. It now has the same pleasant feeling to my skin but seems to transport moisture better since there are some new inserts under the armpit made out of a lighter Phasic SL material. I'm thankfully for that feature since this makes the breathability better. Don't get me wrong, the older models are great but these are clearly better and to top this of they are lighter in weight (around 16 g less for my size medium) too! These Phase Shirts fit such a broad application these is my favorite layer used as a stand alone piece for running and biking or climbing at colder days or used as a base layer for skiing in spring. An other welcome change is the the lack of the rubber tag in the neck, washing instructions are now printed on.

This is an excellent Base layer that keeps me surprisingly warm for its size. It feels as warm as a light sweater rather than a shirt. The fit is tight for my 5'10, 155lb body, but its not restricting at all. I can wear it under a sweater and feel full mobility. I'd give it full stars but one annoying complaint is the material starts to really stink at the armpits after only two days of use. I don't seem to get this problem with any of my other shirts.

I am now biking in cool weather, I sweat a lot, and this base layer keeps me very comfortable and disperses moisture. It does also dry quickly as the description states. I have not tried any other brands, but this one is a a great value for the price.
