What is happening at NB? Each new version of shoe seems worse than the previous one. I used to swear by New Balance, but I can't find a single running shoe that feels secure on my feet. My heel slips out on these (V4), but V3 were awesome. What a shame.

These run as most athletic shoes do a little small. I had to fit my NB one-half size larger than my dress or casual shoes. I customized this style and like the way it turned out; however, I am not please with their performance when speed walking. they seemed to give good support and comfort, but when I returned from a 2.5 mile walk my feet hurt. This is unusual for me and I have always been a buyer of NB shoes for walking and just plain athletic shoe wear. A few of their shoes I use for the speed walking and are all better for my feet than this pair. I have one pair that are not New Balance and it is ironic they are the most comfortable. the best walking shoes I have from NB are style 1540 purchased some few years ago in Black & White. They far surpass these shoes in foot comfort. These shoes would ear 5 stars from me.

First, let me say my biggest complaint on these is the new color scheme of black. I prefer the white over the black front soles. Wish they at least offered in white (like the blue version). I've worn NBs for 35 years. I have wide (4E) feet and love a large toe box. These fit well. Unlike many people who owned the V3s, I never had issue with the tongue sliding on them. I also felt the V3s actually lasted slightly longer than the V4. I'm not a runner, just wear them virtually daily and the V3s last me 9-12 months. The last pair I bought of the V3s I bought in mid-June 2017. They have a little life left. I bought them because I wasn't thrilled about the V4s that lasted about 7 months. Of course, basing longevity is unfair - you don't talk about tires in years vs. miles. Same with shoes. What I will say is that my V3s look way better than the V4's, especially after wearing them over 6 months.

Love this shoe, especially for its wide widths. The new Nubuck/mesh version isn't available other than in "D" width, alas.

The title of my review explains how I feel...these size 13 4e seem tighter and the insole seems less padded that the many many other 990 versions I have, This was a big disappointment since I waited a very long time to see these to again be available in ALL Black.

This particular pair seemed to run just a tiny wee tad small for my big feet (14EE) but the other 990's I've had were fine, not sure why this one pair felt different. Also NB excludes so many of their shoes from any promotions, this one included, that the price is a bit too high for what you get. On the plus side, it is made in America. I returned this particular pair of shoes.

I really loved the shoes but unfortunately the Toe Box is just to narrow .

The 990 series has always been a reliable and durable shoe, but to be honest, the Fresh Foam shoes are so light and give so much cushioning that they may be the new standard.

The shoe style is really great, but runs about a half-size too small. We were pleased to be able to exchange it at the local store.

Need wide width. Purchased 6E and it feels like 3E.

I shopped at NB since its NBeacon St. in the early 80s, please more 6EE's width options!

wish they made them in 2E, the standard width only comes in the classic gray. The classic shoe is phenomenal, only problem is width's

The M990v3 was the best. or M990SG3 I'd purchase a dozen if they were available.

I bought these shoes because they are made in the USA, but the shoes are about three times the price of their foreign made shoes. When I received the shoes they had sub standard laces that will need to be replaced.

tried these but too small in toe box. had to return for something else

Bought these shoes to wear for comfort during a trip to Europe. Within the first couple of wearing days, the sole peeled away at the toe. Pretty expensive shoes to be falling apart so quickly. They will be returned.

It is not as comfortable as previous 990 versions.

I have been wearing new balance shoes for nearly 20 years. The 993 was my favorite. I wear a 13 4E. New balance has redesigned their shoes and they are now more narrow than they used to be. The redesigned 990 v4 (the replacement for the 993) in a 13 4E hurt my feet, it was so narrow. I've been a loyal customer for many years and it pains me to go somewhere else.

I tried on 6 or 7 pairs of wide NBs at my local dealer back in May and thought I found the best pair with the 990v4. My activity level is light to moderate walking, including commuting. I've worn them just about every day since buying in May, and about two weeks ago, the support just went away. My knees hurt every day, and occasionally my right foot as well. The soles are pretty well worn, worn more than I expected for a shoe at this price level and not being an avid runner or anything. I can't recommend these for the price and am very disappointed in the brand.

this shoe feels just like the #623. CON: not enough support/cushion/padding under the ball of foot to toes! if your going to walk on hard surface think twice! didn't mind paying the money but NB needs to pad/cushion the front of there shoes more.

I used to wear NB exclusively, but I feel their quality has diminished over the years. After receiving my shoes and wearing them for a couple of weeks, they still make mt feet hurt. I wish I had stayed with a different brand, but Ivwanted to give NB another try. I will not buy another pair. The support is not comparable to their competitors.

I've been buying New Balance shoes for decades. The reasons: 1) I have a very wide foot and 2) they are made in America. The 990s are not as cushioned as thy used to be. Even more annoying, in the manufacturing process, they leave the inside of the sole a little bumpy near the base of the big and little toes. It seems to be isolated to the left foot. Less padding... bumpy ride... bring back the original 990. I also have purchased more high-end NB shoes, also disappointed with them a little. Having said all of this, I will continue to purchase NB shoes as they still fit my boats the best.
