I'm a runner who does between 45 - 60 miles a week. These are extremely supportive and a little heavy. They were a little roomy in the toe box than what I'd prefer, but they definitely provide a good level of support!

Comfort and then some. Have them in blue and wanted the other bluish color but they were out, so I got black.

SO wanted to like these. Liked look, fantastic reviews, made in USA. I thought, despite the high price, that I'd found a new everyday and walking shoe to replace Asics GEL 2000's, which have been my mainstay, but whose colors/styling I'm not thrilled with. These simply felt TOO TIGHT. Tried many times, only working with a sock that's thinner than I usually wear. Thought they might stretch, but decided, at this price, I should be happy from the get-go. Returned them. Then tried same shoe in EE, but they are, you guessed it, too wide. Maybe I'm the rare guy for whom New Balance isn't a fit.

Sorry to say I was disappointed with these! I really wanted to keep them since they are the only the shoes I know of still made in good old USA. For the price $174 they appeared to skimp on materials all the way from "builders grade" shoe laces to the other materials. If they had only fit properly I would have kept them anyway. As we age our feet tend to spread out and sizes change. Even so these seemed to run larger than other brands by at least 1/2 size.
As always Zappos service is unmatched any place else know of. Thank you Zappos!

These shoes are solid. I wanted to try New Balance’s American made shoe, they are pricey, but I was willing to pay it. I a little disappointed with the comfort they provide. I was expecting more cushion. I wear them when I’m expecting to do a lot of walking and they just don’t perform as I would have liked. I’m not unhappy, but I won’t buy this show again, I’ll go back to the a more cushiony model. They are not flashy at all. I changed the laces to give them some color and so it didn’t look like I had “Dad” shoes on. They are good shoes just now what I expected.

Honestly, I didn't find this comfortable compared to the asics gel nimbus for the same price range...don't see what all the fuss is about these shoes. Order both and compare for yourself.

I loved the version 3 of this shoe. The updated version 4 is not as comfortable for me.

I don't understand why New Balance discontinued the previous model for this one. The quality is roughly the same as the previous model. They are slightly less comfortable than the previous model. The style is similar to the previous model.
I will continue to purchase them for now but if they continue reducing the comfort then I'll have to revisit this decision.

nice looking shoe true to size but not especially comfortable. The insole could have offered
more cushioning. Can not tell about durability but otherwise not great value for price.

Sadly not the 990 v3.
Found the size 12 4E too narrow and the toe box is lacking the space of the previous generation.
I am so glad to see that it is still made in America!
It is still a quality shoe and well-constructed. But they went and messed with a good thing.

I am wearing now a pair of 993's and before I had the 991s and 992's. All fit perfectly (13 EE). But these are a bit narrower and a bit longer. I could live with the extra length, but not with the width. Sorry that I cannot count on this style anymore.

When I first laced up the shoes and tried them on, I was very disappointed with the comfort of the inner shoe liner and arch support. The insert is quite thin and provides no arch support. I much prefer my 840v3 which isn't readily available these days. The new V4 doesn't apppeal to me. I'll purchase new pairs of Spenco and Profoot insoles to see which helps the most.

New balance for years was my go to as I wear a 13 4E wide. Thinking I was getting a shoe that was quality and true to their old molds I bit on these pricy shoes. They were barely wide at all. I felt the toe box had narrowed and the mid foot where my foot is widest was very constrained. Holding this pair up to a pair of ASICS gel venture 6’s of the same size it is apparent that the new balance soles are a good half inch narrower. I’m very disappointed and promptly returned them and will buy the 40$ ASICS again instead.

This is a good-looking shoe with obviously a good deal of workmanship. It felt comfortable when I first put it on and when I walked around the room for a half hour. However after I walked with the shoe for 7 hours, I felt pain in my heel, toe, and matatarsil. Since I had already worn it outside I could not return it and gave the pair away.

The shoe fit small, so I have to reorder a larger size. It looked nice and will hopefully wear well once I get a size that fits

I think these shoes run narrow through the toe box & really wide @ the ankle. The toe box is where I needed the width & these are way to narrow in that area for me.

I switched from Asics to try supporting an American company with New Balance, but I found the shoe didn't have the cushion I needed for walking on city streets with a bad knee. I am going back to Asics.

I was very disappointed with these shoes for comfort and support. They're on the higher end of the price range (at least when I got mine). I've had good luck with New Balance, and since I wear 4E width I get lots of NB shoes - they consistently make 4E width shoes. These weren't comfortable right out of the box for me, and now 3 months later I'm replacing them because I've developed mild shoe-related foot pain in one foot. I basically just wear these to work, and I do a mile or two of mall walking a week over my lunch break. They don't show any significant signs of wear, and they look nice and fit well otherwise. Still - the mild walking pain is forcing me to get rid of these.

This is my third pair of 990v4's and I love them. I use the lace lock system and in the past the laces have been long enough to tie a regular bow to secure the lace. Now however, New Balance must have a new, wet behind the ears, doesn't understand customer satisfaction, MBA type in a back room somewhere who figured out that the company could save "millions" if the laces were shortened by 8 inches. Unbelievable! The laces on these shoes, using the lace lock system are just barely long enough to tie a square knot. Hence the 3 star overall rating.

Been wearing NB for a long time, several pair's of the old 1122 & 1123, & now the 1540 v2 - have had 5 pair so far. Was looking for something better looking than the 1540, & these look great! However, they are significantly more narrow, had to return them & go back to the 1540 that uses the SL2 last.

Overall disappointed in the fit. Pinches my little toe at times, and is built for a low arch - the sides are very low, with the top of the shoe mostly the tongue.
