My husband's favorite sneaker. This is his second pair.

Great so far. Looking forward to seeing how these hold up. Much more supportive than the cheaper New Balance shoes which are comfortable but don't provide much ankle/foot support.

Best pair of walking shoes I've owned

Thanks Zappo for great service but am giving up on finding a New Balance replacement for my old MW799 EEs. Tried the MW1350W1. Tried the M990v4 and the MW1201v1 (recommended by NB). Had to try multiple sizes, of course, since a 10 in one was a 10.5 in another was an 11 in the third. Tried EE and D widths. Tried one insert after another. None hit the mark for the fit and comfort I want.

I'm devoted to 990s but had a trouble with this pair. After 6 weeks of normal use the rubber sole started to come unglued from the toe area. This occurred on both the left and right shoes. I am sending them back and hopefully a replacement pair will work fine. I've never had this problem before.

Toe Box too tight . This shoe was supposed to have extreme comfort and cushioning ,,,, this shoe is totally the opposite. There was no cushioning in the insole at all . New Balance put a paper thin insole in this shoe . Very disappointed .

I buy the New Balance M990V4 for my son, who has very wide feet. He has to wear a 4E. Any size smaller will not fit him. The New Balance M990V4 fits my son's feet perfectly. He loves this sneaker so much and this is the only sneaker he gets. He just alternates the colors. I usually get the sneakers from Foot Locker, but Foot Locker did not have his size. Luckily, Zappos had his size for the New Balance M990V4, and at a cheaper price too. I was happy to discover Zappos.

Came back to New Balance, and these are a great classic NB shoe. Have been trying different manufacturers and styles, and there are some shoes as good as this pair, but these are the best so far for me. Don't use them for running,, so no comment on that, but for daily wear they are great. Even wore them to church this morning, wasn't going to go with anything that wasn't as comfortable and the all black looked just fine. It could be you get what you pay for.

Buy these for my husband when his old ones get worn. They're nice looking (invisible), and he loves them. FYI he's impossible with shoes so these must be comfortable. Probably buy them once per year or two. He wears them for casual wear.

Fit was perfect. (11EE). Very comfortable.

The New Balance 990v4 is one of the few shoes that fit my weird (size 13 AAA) feet well. I have flat feet and had to wear special made shoes as a child. The podiatrist said I would never be able to wear sneakers. I am grateful he was wrong but I do try to buy shoes that correct for over-pronation. Zappos is the place to go for these challenges. I appreciate their selection as well as their free return policy because I never know about how new shoes will feel until I try them on and walk around. I am an active and competitive 69 year-old. I played basketball in high school, racquet sports in my 20s and 30s, volleyball in my 40s and 50s and have recently discovered and enjoy pickleball. I have previously worn New Balance 990v2 and 1540v2, Asics GT-2000, and Brooks Addiction. All of these have worked well for me and I have used them until they were worn out but I think that I like the 990v4 the best. I bought the navy blue version. The style is attractive. The fit, including arch support placement, is very good for me. The 990v4 sole is supposed to be for running but the traction is okay for both cement and wooden pickleball surfaces. I do wish I could find a shoe that fit me this well that had a sole specifically designed for court surfaces. I am also a part-time white water raft guide so if you need a good water shoe with a very grippy sole then I suggest Astral Brewers.

Great shoe. This is the second pair in about 3 years. Yes I am hard on shoes. The fit was great out of the box.. Wish that they made this style of shoe in a narrower size.

Would have liked a bit more arch support, bu that is what inserts are for. Other than that, a great pair of shoes. I'll get them again...with a set of arch support insoles.

I was looking for a relatively light-weight running shoe in all black. Fit and size were just right - men's 8, EE width. I have only worn them around the house so far to make sure they fit properly, and they do. I hope they will hold up. If they do, I'll buy a few more - before they change the style.

The 990's have been good for years...no reason other than price for this consumer to change.

Fit good... Just like a New Balance Shoe should.

The New Balance M990V4 felt very supportive on my feet and will be a welcomed addition to my closet! First time I have purchased a black pair. Will waterproof for protection and upkeep! No odor.

High end manufacturing, quality product, worth the money

I just bought this pair to replace an older New Balance model that seems to have gone out of production. My husband usually can wear New Balance and finds them true to size in all directions. He loves these new shoes and I am glad New Balance makes such a great product.

This is a beautiful and unique 990 that I am proud to add to my collection. A very stylish shoe that is perfect for casual warm weather wear. Much too attractive to wear for running! It is a NB 990 so all the accolades that have been been written apply to the angora model. Yes, it is heavier and more bulky than sleek running shoes like the 890 but it has a classic character that the sleek speed models can’t match. I own many pairs of 990’s, both production and custom designs, but this shoe is eye catching in the midst of all others. Purchase a pair while they are available. You will be glad you did.

OUTSTANDING shoe. So comfortable and I have a very wide foot. 12 4E and perfect fit.

My husband really likes these New Balance sneakers. They are a bit snug but will stretch in time.
