These shoes come at quite a price, but I think I can explain why. They're as rigid and tough as a skate shoe, so they're stable: No twist, no roll, no unpredictable movements. They feel flat and solid on the ground. Despite this toughness, they're much lighter, much softer, much more breathable, and much more comfortable than a skate shoe; which make sense because this is a running shoe. Ground impact is cushioned just right. You can wear them all day long without fatigue or you can get in a good run, walk, or workout without that "I gotta get my feet out of these things" feeling at the end. I actually bought a second pair to wear around the house because of how stable and comfortable they feel. The second pair will make a good backup as well. I hate it when you can't find a suitable replacement for a pair of shoes you like because they've been discontinued! Style-wise, they're not at all ostentatious and actually have a subdued, no-nonsense look of sturdy, attractive quality. I can get away with wearing the black and silver shoe with casual slacks - and I do just that every chance I get. A quick change of cloths later, and I'm out for a jog. Awesome! I found the perfect shoe. I hope they keep together for a very, very long time.

Been wearing these for decades for walking my dogs and kick around shoes. Its a great shoe!

Okay. This shoe is really expensive but I'm very happy with this shoe. My recent runs are more comfortable and the shoe fits great. New Balance has the best shoes for wide feet and this shoe keeps me from over pronating. Hopefully, I will get some long-term used out of them.

I buy the new balance sneakers because they are made in the USA. They are comfortable and always know what you are getting

If you have very thin feet, this is a great choice. I have to go with 2A width and this is one of the rare shoes that actually is that narrow. I like the looks and they are very comfortable. As a nice bonus they are made in the USA, which is exceedingly rare. Highly recommend!

These shoes are extremely comfortable and provide the arch support I need. Zappos is my "go to" for shoes. Zappos service is excellent!

I have been wearing many different styles and sneaker types from New Balance for over 30 years and I have never been disappointed. The quality and fit are superior, that along with Zappos excellent customer service can't be beat. These are great running shoes for my needs, I average about 20 to 25 miles a week on different surfaces and they have been perfect.

The shoe is supportive and comfortable but not very stylish. What my kids call an “old man shoe” but this was better than an all white pair with a big Velcro strap!

My husband has worn the 1540 in 12 4E, but this shoe in 4E was much too narrow. He went to a store to try the 6E and it still was too narrow! Very different toe shape than the 1540. Plus, it runs big in length - you might have to go down a half size. The Brooks Ghost 11 has a great wide toe box in 4E, so he is using that one for road running. It's softer than the NB 1540.

First, I have to order men's sneakers to accomodate my big wide feet and even bigger orthotics (for arch support). They are super comfy! I think they may run a tiny bit longer than the 880 but I wouldn't say a half size larger. They may prove to be a bit too wide for me as I use them, but we'll see. I could wear them right out of the box so I think that says a lot. I wore them hiking about 7 miles only a week after breaking them in and my feet felt fine. And BTW, how nice to have color choices other than the typical mens' black or grey (yawn). I got the seafoam green color and LOVE it.

My husband usually wears a 4E in New Balance, but this model is much narrower than a 4E. The 1540 in 4E is great. So, we're going to a New Balance store to try a 6E in this 990. It is softer than the 1540, which he needs for road surface walking/running.

I wear size 9 1/2 or 10 and have huge orthotics (I have no arch), but the orthotics fit great in these men's sneakers and they're comfortable right out of the box! Nice look and I love the color too (got the seafoam green). Hope they treat me as well on my long walks as they have so far around the house. Highly recommend for people with wide feet who may need extra space due to ortho issues.

Fit was better than expected. I'm always a little nervous about purchasing online (even with free return shipping, it's still a pain) without trying the shoes on. But with New Balance, I've never had a problem. This model changed a little, but the comfort, feel and materials are perfect. Best price with Zappos!
