My husband's review:
My job sometimes involves hiking over varied terrain and some climbing to
get on top of things. My warm weather daily shoe has been the La Sportiva
Boulder X approach shoe. It's good for both daily wear as well as light
hiking in the mountains. Now that the wet weather is here I needed
something waterproof. I could have gone with the Boulder X in Mid, but
suede doesn't last long going from wet to dry over and over. I tried the La
Sportiva Core High GTX but the outsole was too flexible- bad if you have
plantar fasciitis. If you suffer from that, or want to prevent it, find a
shoe that bends only in the forefoot and not through the arch.
The video here on Zappos for this shoe shows it bending in the forefoot
while the rest of the shoe remains firm, so I ordered a pair. The
to-the-toe lacing system makes it easy to adjust the fit as your feet swell
during the day; not too loose in the morning or too tight in the evening.
This is NOT a boot if you were wondering; it's a high-top approach shoe.
The collar that wraps around your ankle provides only minimal support; it's
more for ankle protection than support. They also like to be cinched down
tighter than some people are used to, so if you feel your heel moving around
try tightening them properly. I wore these all day over dry, wet, and icy
terrain and the soles provided sure footing. The only time I lost traction
was on some glare sheet ice in a shady part of the parking lot, and nothing
short of metal studs would have helped there.
FIT: I wear a mens size 10 and the mens size 10 fit perfectly.
PROS: The soles are super sticky. My heel stays planted in the heel cup
when I step off. Very light on your feet. Waterproof and all synthetic so
they'll survive the wet-to-dry cycles. Simple lacing system that allows a
lot of adjustment. Look great.
CONS: None unless you need a lot of ankle support.

Attractive profile, but strangely narrow construction. I don't have a wide foot, but these are tapered from the middle to the very narrow toe box. Similar shape to a bullet.
