I ordered the Vasque and the Brooks Ariel 14. After several foot operations I've been wearing the Ariels almost exclusively. But I wanted to try a hiking shoe. The Vasque was very disappointing. I ordered a 7 wide. It's too short - at least 1/2 inch shorter than the Ariel. I want a snug fit on the ankle so I always lace the last hole. The last hole on the Vasque is just below the hole before it which doesn't do much for making a snug ankle fit. And then there's the cushioning. There isn't any. I feel every step when walking and the heel feels slightly raised as well. I gave it 4 stars for style because it looks good. It just doesn't feel good. I'll stick with Ariels.

Great hiking shoe! I wore it for 7 days walking trails in the Canadian Rockies. Very comfortable and supportive. I did not have a heavy pack so a shoe was great - no need for a real boot. Did not require any breaking in either - was comfortable straight out of the box.

Nice shoes but I had trouble with the sizing. My normal size, 8m was too small, so I exchanged for an 8.5. Tried them on and walked around the house and they seemed fine. Left the next day for a long camping / hiking trip. After hiking a while my big toe was hitting the end on flat stretches and getting squished painfully on downhill parts of the trail. They also felt too wide. I had no choice but to wear them all week so probably can't exchange again for another size (9 narrow?). I am very disappointed.

these are great hiking shoes but are NOT WATERPROOF. while some of the materials are waterproof, not all of them are (including the mesh uppers) which means your feet will get wet. for longer backpacking trips, its good to have non-waterproof shoes because they are lighter and dry faster than waterproof hikers. but for day hikes/short trips in wet areas, fully waterproof shoes can be very useful (though are usually a bit heavier and hotter since they don't breathe as well). these are great shoes, but should not be advertised as waterproof.

I purchases these in an 11. I wear a 10 in most shoes and a 10.5 in sneakers. The 11 fit perfectly, so order up. This shoe offered almost no arch support, so you may need to replace the insoles. I decided against these shoes because they rubbed up against by ankle too much.

They run very small, and the wide isn't very wide. Not much support either, feels like there no shoe liner at all. The Vasque Mantra is much more comfortable and runs truer to size.
