This is my second pair of Palisade shorts and I think they are great. I use them for hiking and then for every day use when not hiking. The zippered pocket on each side plus hand pockets are really good for hiking and keeping a cell phone in one pocket and ID plus cash in the other zippered pocket. I wash them with a cold water setting and then dry them on extra low heat and they only take about 20 minutes to dry at that temperature. These are the perfect shorts for what I needed. I would like to see more colors such as Khaki or something on the lighter side for every day use.

Super comfortable, lightweight and breathable shorts! The fit is excellent. It gives you enough room to move freely, but there is no unnecessary material dangling around. The superb stretch material does the rest. The integrated belt feels great under a hipbelt and especially the two zippered pockets are well designed and can also envelop bigger items. If you're looking for a pair of shorts these are a "must-buy" kind of gear!

They look so nice that at first I didn't want to get them dirty on a hike, but they perform so well that I broke down. Super light weight, super comfortable even on hot days. The fit is excellent...just roomy enough and stretchy enough for total mobility. Was really impressed with how quickly they dried, and the sweat-absorbing waistband material adds to the comfort factor--especially when wearing a heavier pack with bigger hip-belt.
No back pocket, which I'm used to having, but the front pocket options are actually more efficient anyway. Wouldn't change a stitch.

Perfectly engineered for all outdoor activities, improving on the previous model which was excellent at well. Super light. Unqualified recommendation. Well worth the price.

Owned for nearly two years and just an incredibly durable and useful piece of Arc gear. Dries quickly, stands up to tough situations and just looks great after every wash. Buy them now!

Just bought these and I am quite pleased. Fit well and look nice. The fly is indeed short as others have reported but still functional for me.I am using them on my thru hike of the AT. I had lost a lot of weight so needed new shorts. Quite pleased but they are very expensive.Look better than my previous shorts.

I bought a pair of these Palisades along with a pair of Lefroy both with a 34" waist. Ended up returning the Lefroy since they were a size too small. Decided to get another pair of the Palisade even though I hate how short the crotch zipper is. Other than that, the fit was great and I love the fact that all five pockets are zippered. Both wallet and cell phone fit well. Lefroy had only one side zippered pocket and no rear pocket.

The old version were PERFECT shorts for long distance hikers. Now that they are shorter, the cargo pocket is no longer deep enough to hold a folded pint or quart-size ziplock inserted on it's side (so the zip-lock is vertical). This is critical, since every hiker I know stores paper maps and route notes in a ziplock. I'm terribly disappointed. I hike ~2000 miles per year, and this used to be the perfect pair of shorts. Now I'm searching for a new product :(

I love the improvements made minus the stupid shrinking of the inseam. I actually am taking my back and getting more Lefroy. Who wants to wear hiking shorts that cover just over half the top part of legs? Seriously almost 70s shortness. Minus that the shorts are awesome. More zippered pockets is a plus. The addition of the rear pocket was great. And the new buckle is a big improvement. The pants are perfect and I just bought new versions of them as well.

I would LOVE to give these shorts 5stars (technically and aesthetically they are awesome) HOWEVER, the belt... The belt is a nice touch but drives me nuts come laundry day. It causes lots of noise in the dryer and I spend 5 minutes fixing the belt from a twisted mess. Drives me to distraction.

Thanks to the reviewer who pointed out that this redesign contains a very short fly. It's a problem I've noted on other recent Arc'teryx designs and this review saved me the trouble of buying this updated Palisade short.
Arc'teryx refused to print my previous comment on this problem for some violation of the guidelines.
Let me be plain and noncontroversial:
The short fly found on this and other products is a dealbreaker.

These shorts have a built in belt, but no belt loops for hanging things like a chalk bag, keys, camp cup, water bottle, etc. I wind up trying to stuff too much in the pockets which doesn't work.

Big price hike for less shorts. I have older Pallisades with and without the zippered side pocket, and I strongly prefer the ones without the zipper. I put stuff I need to secure in the zippered cargo pockets. I go in and out of my side pockets so much for stuff I want to be readily available that the zippers are a nuisance. And with all that traffic, they're the first to break. I really don't like the design revisions and (more) astronomical pricing on these new Pallisade shorts.

the palisade short was perfect. why did arcteryx need to revise it? it's now a full inch shorter (a la 1980) and the belt is too thin so that the top edge of the short folds over. i suppose i could just lose 10 pounds and fix this, but i think i will instead wear my old palisade shorts.

I have worn palisade pants and shorts for a long time and they were my favourite pant.
These current pairs of shorts are probably the third design I've purchased and sometimes I wonder what this company is thinking. The buckle keeps getting changed when there was nothing wrong with the initial design for example. But the icing on the cake is the zipper. I measure it to be more than 1.5 inches shorter than the previous version. The fly is unusable. You need to unbuckle the pants to pee. This really makes the pants useless to me and I wish I had never bought them.
It begs the question: who on earth is designing this stuff????
