Great workout/running shoe! This is my 3rd pair and I won't buy any others.

This is my fourth pair of Defyance and I am disappointed. The toe box is snug and the entire shoe does not feel as soft and cushioned as in prior years. I use to feel a bounce in my step but now it is just stiff and flat. This was the shoe my podiatrist recommended and I was very happy with the past three years models. I see this same complaint from so many other reviewers no matter what brand shoe they wear. They loved the previous model and wish they could have stocked up as they are always dissatisfied with the new one. I can understand improving a shoe with the latest technology but to make a shoe smaller in the toe and less cushiony is not a step forward. I cannot return these as I have been wearing them hoping to get used to them but it looks like I will be changing brands with my next purchase.

I have worn a 9 since I was 18. However, this is the first time I am ordering a 9.5. Super comfortable and a lot of padding makes ordering a 1/2 larger a must.

I was a little concerned about the Defyance 9 since I had worn Defyance 8 and was leery of the change in style. I should not have been concerned. The shoes are actually better than their predecessor. They are light and very comfortable. As always, Zappos is the best! Thank you for being the company you are, I love shopping with you! Keep up the good work.

Defyance is reliably comfortable! This is my 6th pair of Defyance. Cushioning like a cloud, soft texture and good structure. Very stable feel. Would highly recommend.

medium width is very narrow

I have been very reluctant to try the Defyance 9 after reading all the reviews. I must say I was surprised that they are very comfortable. They are not as wide as the Defyance 8, but they are by no means tight. I do find that they are a bit heavier and run 1/2 size smaller. I would defiantly suggest these sneakers.

I usually wear a 9, but in Brooks I always order a 9 1/2. Shoe fits great and is comfortable for running.

These shoes are the only ones that reliably fit my feet. I wish they came in more colors because I have bought 6 pair and could use a change of color. I keep buying them because they fit me like no other.

These shoes run quite small/narrow. I always wear 9 medium width in Brooks, but these shoes were uncomfortably sung. They also seemed very lightweight, and lacking in support. That didn't work for me, so I returned them.

I wish shoe manufacturers would stop changing the styles every year. The Defyance 8 was a great fit. The Defyance 9 not so great. My plantar fasciitis was agitated after only a few hours of wear. Hence a lot of heel pain with this model. Sending back.

Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of Brooks. I have been wearing their shoes for years and love the Defyance. I can't understand why Brooks continually messes with a "good thing." The Defyance 8 was a much more superior shoe than the 9. The toe box in the 9 is longer and more narrow and bunches up when you bend your foot. The footbed feels different under my feet, I can't explain why exactly. Maybe they changed the materials? All I know is this shoe doesn't work for me - at all. I have started wearing the Ghost 9 which is okay, but definitely nowhere near great. My fingers are crossed that Brooks improves the Defyance 10 or I might have to jump ship and find a new running shoe company. Ugh. I typically wear a size 9M but order 1/2 size up in Brooks. My foot is neutral with no other issues.

A most unattractive and poor fitting shoe. I have worn Defyance for years..why change a good thing. Please go back to previous models.

I'm disappointed that Brooks changed the fit of Defyance. The toe box is snug and the shoe is less cushiony and has no bounce. It feels very flat. I loved the previous models, but will return this pair and try another brand. May be right for some people, but no longer right for me.
