I first purchased these shoes on ebay and according to the reviews I purchased a full size down. I normally wear a size 10 in Nike and Adidas, size 9 in Thursday Boots, but when the shoes arrived they were a size 9 was a little big. I returned the shoes and repurchased the shoes on Zappos since they have fast shipping and a great return policy. I ended up ordering a size 8.5 and 8 just to just to compare the two. The 8.5 fit perfect as the 8 was too snug. My advice, go into a red Wing store and try on multiple sizes. if you don't have a store in your area, you should purchase multiple sizes to see which one fits best.

The shoe fits well, and the material and construction are excellent. These will be my go-to shoes for the winter.

Overall the fit was good. It takes about 1-2 days to break them in. I like a slightly wider toe box and was considering buying the EE width, but after about 2 days of wearing them they stretched out. Now they fit very well.

Very pleased with the style and construction of the Iron Ranger. I agree with other reviewers that these run large. I wear an 8M in Corcoran jump boots but had so size down to a 7.5M in the Iron Ranger.

Half-size down from your regular size should do the trick. The Iron Rangers takes some breaking in, but that can be expected of an oiled leather boot. These aren't casual boots, they're firm and resilient for a reason. Wear a decent pair of socks and you will not have any trouble.

This is the nicest boot I have worn to date and compares very favorably to the Wolverine 1000 mile boot. This boot has a rubber sole and I wanted that because I plan to use these for riding my motorcycle. The 1000 mile boot is a bit finer and if that is the look you want, don't buy this boot with a rubber sole. But if you want a painstaking well constructed, American-made boot, stop looking - you've found it. The leather is very high quality and the double toe cap gives me exactly what I want for my motorcycle shifter wear point. The history of the boot is that they were originally made for steel workers who needed a super tough boot. The double toe cap is like the rivets in Levi's jeans, put there for the miners who were filling their pockets with rough ore nuggets. These boots are clearly built to last and can certainly be re-heeled or re-soled after you have worn them out. But that will take some time.

I was glad I took the recommendations about sizing down one full size. They fit perfectly when they came. It might be a rough break in process for some, but they're fairly similar to the break in process on Clarks Desert Boots. Wear some comfortable boot socks to help the break in process. I haven't felt any pain during the process but I could see how some would.

I have a wide foot and generally wear an 11.5 in Merrell hiking sneakers (which run wide), but 12 in most narrower shoes. I also have flat feet which require that I wear a 3/4-length orthotic insert to prevent my arch from collapsing. I ended up going to a Redwing store and trying on a bunch of sizes. The sales-person that measured my foot insisted that a 10.5 D or 11 D (regular width) would be perfect and would stretch to fit even though I found that both crushed my toes together. 11.5 D was the only regular-width size I could get my orthotics into and which didn't crush my foot, but they were way too long. Switching to the wide sizes I found that the 10.5 EE was perfect for my feet. On my [slightly] larger foot it was just a bit more snug than I'd like for the long-term and my smaller foot was perfect. Since the store only had the old-style smooth sole I waited and ordered the Amber Harness color from Zappos with the new mini-lugged sole. The first 3 days of wearing them I found that the laces dug into my foot and there were a variety of other sore spots on my feet from uncomfortable pressure. I'm now on my 6th full day of wearing them and I'm no longer noticing discomfort or pressure points. They aren't quite "comfy" yet, but they don't apply painful pressure through the laces any more when walking uphill.

Beautiful boots. Well worth the cash if you are a faithful mink oiler. It is true that you must buy at least 1/2 to a full size smaller AND that they will punish you for the first few days. After that? Awesome.

These boots are very well made. I wear a size 12 in most shoes, like Merrills, but these boots fit best in a size 11 1/2, like my Mephistos and my Chucks. I’m rating a five on fit though because I don’t think the other shoes are right on size anyway. Those shoes always feel sloppy or have large voids up in the toe. I’m rating these as a four on comfort only because they don’t have much cushion in the insoles and adding an insert, like Dr Scholl’s, changes the fit. So they’re better for walking on surfaces with more give, unless you can work out the right size after adding an insert.

So is this the best mens Boot ever? No Of course not. There are all sorts of custom made to order boots, much high price that may well be better. But if you look at price point, style, materials, look, fit, Country of origin, feature set, durability ect...... I honestly feel that this boot is 1. GOOD ENOUGH 2. offers the best value Just a great looking , hard wearing, last a lifetime sort of boot.

After doing some research prior to purchasing, I decided on going 1/2 size smaller than my boyfriend’s normal size 12 boot. By having this information ahead of time, it saved us from having to send them back for an exchange. The boots are so well made, with the thickest hide I’ve ever seen in a boot. Will definitely take some time to break in but that is to be expected with such a high quality boot.

I've wanted this boot for a while and after finally getting it I'm not disappointed. The fit is a full size larger so size down by one. The inside is bare-bones though so plan on getting some insoles. I just got some red wing mink oil too so I plan on servicing the boots soon. The look is what is the selling point. These boots look awesome and once they are properly broken in then they will be just about perfect!

For those of you who are thinking about ordering any Redwing Heritage boots I would highly recommend going to a Redwing store to get a proper fit. However despite what that computerized machine that they make you stand in and pushy sales associates I would try on different sizes to make sure you don't buy a pair of boots that are too big or too small. I had originally bought the Copper Rough and Tough Heritage Moc Toe boots and between a size 10 and 9.5 had problems with the 10's being too big and the 9.5s feeling too tight across the top of the foot. The sales associate swore up and down that the machine does not lie and said the 10s would eventually form to my foot however there was a lot of room in my heel area. I decided to try on the Iron Rangers in the Copper Rough and Tough in a 9.5. This boot felt better across the top of my foot, but still had too much room in the toe area. So I went down to a size 9 and it fit perfect. Being able to order through Zappos with fast shipping and great return service I was able to try on in my own home and make that decision for myself without the hassle of pushy sales associate who did not want to keep running back and getting different pairs of boots for me to try on! But if you do go to a store or order here from Zappos I would consider trying on different sizes. Most of their boots do run a full or half size smaller from your normal shoe size. I will tell you that you want be disappointed in the quality and construction of these boots. The first day I wore them I had several compliments. I would recommend getting some type of leather conditioner to help with the break in of the boots. Redwing has care kits for all of their types of boots. I purchased one with a leather cleaner, mink oil conditioner and protectant spray. Just after a week of wearing them they are starting to break in nicely. Looking forward to getting many years of wear out of these great looking boots.

The Red Wing Heritage line is full of excellent boots, I own the 1907’s as well as the Iron Ranger 8111 Amber Harness. I got these boots in a size 10, I wear 10.5 in Nike and New Balance. Left the desired amount of room in the toe box for wool socks in the winter months and thinner socks in the spring and fall. The boots do require break in. But In my opinion if you get the boots in your correct size then the break in period is not that bad. I would recommend getting sized at a red wing store. But if you do not have a local store, Zappos has an excellent and accommodating return/exchange policy. Bottom line these boots are built to last, with proper care you should be able to get many years out of them with a resole now and again.

You'd be hard-pressed to ever find a better pair of boots than the Iron Rangers. Craftsmanship and quality of materials are all top-notch. These boots can easily last you 10 years if you take care of them.
Red Wing updated the sole (much better traction, and maybe a new material?) and somehow these new models are infinitely more comfortable. There is definitely a break-in period, but it seems less intense with the new soles. And I did notice them feeling a 1/2-size to almost a full-size larger. I wear a 10.5 dress shoe and an 11 running shoe, and the size 10 Iron Rangers fit me perfectly.
And as always, the Zappos customer service folks are beyond outstanding. I had an issue with the first pair I ordered and Zappos fixed it promptly and with a smile. Why shop anywhere else?

First of all, these boots run LARGE. So much in fact, that I sized down and whole size and a half. I wear American-made Red Wing steel toe boots on a daily basis for my job and I love them. I was sized for them in a Red Wing store with their computer gizmo sizing machine thing and I’m a comfortable 9.5 in that work boot with room enough for a very thick merino wool hunting sock when the weather turns cold. With that being said, I went with a size 8 in the boot knowing that I’d never wear much more than a moderately thin dress type sock, and they are perfect. This is a completely uninsulated and unlined boot and appropriate for three seasons; spring, summer and fall. They would do fine in winter if sized appropriately and with a good winter sock, but I have other boots for that. There is no insole in this boot either and the inside feels as hard as concrete. Amazingly enough, even with non-existent arch support, they are still extremely comfortable. The leather on these boots is beautiful and really high-quality, but is as stiff as a diamond in an ice storm. Again, I was amazed that it only took me about 12 hours of wearing and walking in them (completely pain free, I might add) to soften them up and thoroughly break them in. Now, they’re my go-to after work footwear. Oh, and the copper color is fantastic as well, although mine have already started to change (in a good way) and I imagine will only look better as they age. These boots are expensive, but they’re an investment and highly recommended.

Quality of craftsmanship and styling is a given. If you are in the market for a work boot to wear more for fashion, then this is one that most take a hard look at. I had no break in period with my boots which was a surprise. I typically wear Ugg or ECCO boots and they are cut wider, which works for my size 10 - pretty, pretty, pretty wide foot. All the reviews said to size up so I rolled the dice and did not size up and bought my standard size 10 thinking that if they ran big, the boots would then be able accommodate my wide foot. Fortunately it worked out as planned! Getting back to the boots. You can tell that these boots are going to be around for years and years to come and can sustain a good beating. Its like buying a Filson bag or Barbour jacket. Though expensive - you will probably have the gear for the rest of your life. Definitely worth checking out. And for those with wide feet, though Red Wing does not make these in a wide width, they could still work out for you. Give it a shot!

Great boots, rugged and look tough. It takes a little time to break them in. Others commented on them sized big, but I am a 12 in any shoe and these fit great with a little room for a thick sock.

Order down 1 size. Love these boots. Great style. You need to break them in. They ARE 1 size too large don't listen to anyone who says they aren't. I wear 11 to 11.5 and I got 10's and they're perfect -- but even at that there's a lot of room in the toe. Definitely want to weatherproof them if you're going to wear your work boots for, you know, anything out of the office.

I love these shoes. A bit hard to break in, but very comfortable in the end. The laces look too short at first, but that it also resolved after break-in.Note: after buying on Zappos, I saw the same pair at a steep discount on Amazon - that didn't last long, though!
