I have lymphadema and already a wide foot and high instep. I have a hard time finding shoes and these worked for me. Only negative is my feet got really wet walking through wet grass, and in Seattle wet is normal. Lots of compliments on these, I wish they were black instead of dark gray but the pink is a nice pop of color. New balance needs to do more color pops with wide shoes but glad to have found these. I prefer a black base with color which is almost never found in my size so these are close to perfect for me

It's too wide in the toe box. The mesh part seem flimsy. I'm ordering a different pair and I love Zappos. Hope new balance will bring back the 554.

I used these for running a 10K and half marathon. I have used New Balance 860v3 for many years. 860v6 hurt my feet and legs real bad. I ordered 840v3 in size 8 narrow. The comfort is good with my own insolesite but are very wide. I am disappointed in the width.

Very nice athletic shoe but it was too wide in the heel. I wear an 8W due to bunions and do not need a shoe that is also wide in the heel. Length was good.

When the 840 disappeared for a while I was very disappointed because these shoes worked well for my feet. I love walking but I have some age-related foot issues. I could walk long distances without any pain. These shoes work well with or without orthotics. So I was delighted to learn that New Balance came out with a newer version. They run a tad bigger than the earlier version. I measured my old 840 version to the newer ones and the newer ones definitely run larger. There is more room than I like in the heel area but I'm hoping that tying them snugly will do the trick and wearing thicker athletic socks. I would still recommend these shoes as they are a stable walking shoes and finally New Balance is making shoes like these in great colors. They look great!

Not enough room in the toe box, returned them. New Balance makes the medium width smaller now because I can no longer fit into it. yet my current medium width are like slippers.

Shoe was stiff and felt heavy. I will go back to 690V4... for treadmill and walking.

Very nice shoe, but runs wide in the forefoot and especially the heel. The wide heel is why I am returning these and trying the Narrow width instead. I've not worn New Balance shoes before, but have worn lots of men's Asics and never had such a wide heel with those.

I really like New Balance shoes. Unfortunately my perfect-fitting style, 1260 v5, has been discontinued. I keep trying to find another style but I can't find anything that has the arch support or comes up high enough on the heel to keep from rubbing. I

I ordered a 6 EE like I wear in Easy Spirit Romy. This shoe box was snug and it was narrow in comparison to the Romy. Liked the color but w/o the fit it's going back

When I first put these on, I thought they were the most comfortable sport shoes I had worn in a long, long while. As a bonus, they looked cute, too. What I couldn't know until I actually wore them was that the collar is too high and hits painfully right at the ankle bone. I tried lacing higher and lower and wearing fatter socks, but the pain is still there. Sadly, I had to wear them outside to learn this and now they cannot be returned. Very disappointing.

I've worn New Balance shoes for years as they were the only sneakers I could find that were made in a narrow width. The heel on these shoes is way too wide for me and slips a lot. It is wider than my current NB sneakers. It's a shame because I love the color.
I'd also recommend:

Nice looking sneaker. Runs a little big. But like some of the other reviews there is heal slippage.
I'd also recommend:

It seems to be a well constructed shoe but it's like walking with a couple of bricks tied to my feet. My bad for not seeing that the shoes weigh 14oz...

So I'm usually a 10 or 10 1/2 and run almost to a wide so I ordered two pairs. The 10 1/2 was way too long and even the normal width was way too wide. So keep that in mind when ordering. The style was nice and the shoe had plenty of cushioning and support.

First pair started to wear and showed year marks w/in two weeks but I live over 2 hours away from the store, so it wasn't worth the drive to return. Not as comfortable as previous purchases and I have been a loyal NB client since 1999. Second pair arrived and is not much different than the first. Comfort level is nothing like NB used to be. Inferior materials and it may be time to look for another go to shoe for this avid runner.

Much narrower in front than previous versions...waited long time to get the new 9N back to the drawing board. felt the stitching on tongue a lot. I loved old versions!

I am returning one pair of two pair that I purchased because they are just not at all what I expected. I am keeping one pair simply because I have worn then at least a dozen times even though they feel no better than they did with the first wearing. The tongue is very uncomfortable, I HATE the elastic shoelaces, and my feet burn the whole time I am wearing them, I have worn WR840WB for many years and NEVER had a problem or disliked a pair of them. I could wear all day long and feet were perfectly comfortable. If I could find someone who had a dozen pair of my old number shoes I would buy all of them!! Needless to say, I'll be looking for a totally different shoe in the future. If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it.

This shoe (840v3) was a major disappointment. It is nothing like the 840v2 which is a walking shoe while the "improved"--really worsened--840v3 is labeled as a "running shoe." There is a ridge across the interior toe box that hurt my toes even walking slowly. I can not imagine what that would feel like for a runner!

Overall, the shoe is too big. But, I found the heel was too wide. I couldn't walk with them. I wish your shoes could be consistent! I've been wearing runners for 34 years. And the past few years, the quality has plummeted. Nothing is consistent anymore. I am going to start looking at Nike's and Asics..

There is a piece that comes up very high on the inside of the shoe that rubs the foot!
