I love these boots! The leather is beautiful and they are super comfortable. A bit stiff at first but easily broken in within one wear. I have average size calves and they fit perfectly over leggings or skinny jeans. I have several Frye boots and these run the same as the others as far as size. They keep their shape and don't slouch.

Great looking boot. Could be dressed up or down. The bottom of the boot is pretty slick which is why I am returning the boot, doesn't work living in the mountains.

Beautiful boots! I am sending them back because they are too big for me around the ankle. I am small/petite and I need a boot that zips for a tighter fit. I LOVE them though, sad to be returning.

Had to return for a half size bigger than I normally wear, first pair too tight on the heel to get my foot into. New pair gorgeous everything you expect from Frye boots.

I ordered these in an 8½, cognac. I own another pair of Frye boots in an 8½ (Campus Boot) and they fit well. The Melissa Boot, however was extremely narrow. I have very very narrow feet myself, and I could not even get these boots on my feet. They were hugely disappointing. The cognac color was absolutely gorgeous and the style was so flawless and classic. I read another review of an 8½ Melissa Back Zip Boot and they seemed to have the same issue (as the 8½ in many Frye boots seem to "completely different quality and style" than say, an 8). That is very strange. Unfortunately, they are going back. Zappos is absolutely amazing with fast shipping, returns and customer support. It makes shopping for just the right boots easy and hassle free!

I finally took the plunge after years of wanting these and bought them in cognac. I am usually a size 8, but followed some advice from reviewers and got them in 7.5. They are extremely difficult to get on and off (the top of my foot literally just would not go in any further into the boot!); however, they proved easier with nylon trouser socks to help my foot slide in. They are tight across the tops of my toes on one foot and hurt. They are also tight on my calf (I'm 14" at my widest) and when teamed with jeans they stick and bunch up around my ankles. I am undecided about how these will look once truly 'broken in.' The color is very nice and the quality is lovely. I think they are just not for everyone.

Love these, but not the color so much. Tho it was true to the color represented online. I think I bought them on a whim to get a new color. The opening for my calf was nice and roomy too. I have large calves and usually have tog et boots stretched or can't buy them because of this. Getting these in a different color because they are awesome.

I love Frye boots, so I was very sad when I had to return this pair. I wear the 14L Jane boot in size 8, so I assumed I would be an 8 in the Melissa boot too. I tried it on to discover it was too snug, even to break in. Additionally, the calf was too snug. I'm pretty sure my calves are average-sized, so I think these are probably best for people with smaller calves. I have sent them back. If I order them again, I will order the 8.5 with the extended calf.

These boots are beautiful. I got the Cognac color and love it. They fit TTS; I usually wear a 6.5, and the 6.5 fits me perfectly in this boot. I don't think I could have gone down a half size. My calf size is pretty small and these fit with a little bit of room for jeans. My only concern is the sole. The edges of the sole scuff very easily and the sole seems to be wearing down quickly. They are also a little tough to get on at times. Overall, I am happy with this boot due to how gorgeous they look on and the color and quality of the leather.

These boots are gorgeous. The leather, color, style everything. Only one problem. I couldn't get my foot in them. After trying for two days with a variety of socks, hose etc. I gave up and am sending them back. I will reorder in a larger size but my 9m sure didn't fit.

These boots fit like a glove. I'm 5'9 and wear a size 9 shoe. I ordered a 9 and they hit the bullseye. I'm a little disappointed in the way the lining is glued to the exterior. One of the boots bulks out where the lining and the exterior leathers aren't quite glued together on the backside of the boot. From behind the boot shapes are not symmetrical. Since I ordered a worn looking leather, it doesn't really stand out, but I was disappointed in the craftsmanship considering the price and reputation of Frye. I decided to keep them and see how they wear in. I'm not a big returner, and I was so excited to wear them that I figured I could live with that flaw. If I had ordered a less worn-looking leather, I probably would have returned them. I do have to say that the color I ordered "chocolate glaze" is spectacular! I feel like these are the boots I've been looking for my whole life. The heel is light so I don't feel like I'm clomping around. The fit around the calf is perfect too. Despite the issue of the glued lining, I really love these boots!

Love the look and style of this boot! I have very small/narrow calves and with skinny jeans there is still some room in there, but it doesn't look like a huge gap like with some other boots. I have high arches and these have no arch support at all so that is the only negative. But they look fantastic and are otherwise very comfortable.

Terribly difficult to get on (despite having slim feet, ankles, and calves), but helped with trouser socks. Super slippery sole (try not to face plant), and zero arch support, but those factors aside, these are well constructed, high quality leather boots NOT made in China, yeah! Wearing them with skinny jeans and still have plenty of wiggle room. Usually wear an 8 or 8.5, but ordered the 8 based upon other reviews and suggestions, and the length is perfect.

This review is for the Frye Melissa Button, no zipper, in a 7.5. I've worn them maybe 10 times and they are just starting to break in. Overall I am very happy. Some considerations: Width: I have narrow feet and they are still tight around the arches and little toe. If you have high arches or wide feet, these will probably not work for you. Putting them on: these boots are INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to put on and take off at first. The pull tabs are essential, but it's still a pretty comical affair--yanking and wiggling and grunting. You don't want to do this in public, trust me. It seems to be getting easier as they break in. Tread: the soles are leather with a rubber heel and they have are very smooth. OK on pavement, grass, brick, and cobbles, but on smooth tile and ice it gets pretty slippery. Height: I wanted flat boots and these pretty much fit the bill. They don't make my back hurt the way higher heels do. Misc: they do make a satisfying clicking noise on hard surfaces.

I believe my feet are in normal width. I have trouble to slide my feet into the shoes. I am a size 7.5 and that's the size that I ordered and it doesn't fit. I personally think you need to size 1/2 up. The quality is very nice though! Love Frye shoes.

I wanted these to work so badly because I'd be coveting them for months. However, they were sadly too wide for my 12.5 inch calves and I had to send them back. If you're a small-calved individual like me and you're looking for a Frye boot, I would recommend the Jenna inside zip which has a much smaller shaft.

Sadly, these are going back. I wanted to like them, but they were baggy around the ankles. Not for me. :-(

Pull pull! Hard to put on if youhave high arches. the foot bed was true to size but i Struggled to pull the boots on. beautiful boots. very nice but. I have high arches. as you may know high arches doesnt just mean the underside of your foot is concave, The shaft couldnt quite accomodate the distance from my heel to front of my ankle pointing and flexing snd shoving. those were so hard to get on it took me five minutes to muster the energy just to pull them off again. I'm sure the might eventually stretch but putting on shoes shouldn't make me collapse from exhaustion.

Beautiful boot! But, too narrow when slipping foot in. I actually injured my finger badly pulling them on. My friend has a pair and injured her foot taking it off. Need to wear thin socks to get foot in but plenty of room for foot once on. Trying to stretch it out. Still, love the boot, just being more cautious.

Beautiful boot! A little snug on my wide feet but should relax as it is made of leather. My only complaint is how slippery the sole is. I live in the far North with lots of snow and ice, and the leather sole slides all over. I took it to my local shoe repair and had a rubber sole slip cover put on. Otherwise, I love this boot!

If you are looking for solid black boots - go with soft vintage leather. I ordered the vintage leather and although they looked nice they looked really worn out and for the price I didn't really want that.

I ordered these in a size 8.5 in the Black Vintage Leather after having tried 4 other styles of Fry riding boots (the Celia X Stitch, the Paige Tall Riding Boot, The Melissa Button Back Zip and the Melissa Button in Chocolate). I already own the Billy shorts (in an 8) which I loved. I have a wide foot, and this was the only style that I tried that fit my foot well. I also have large muscular calves, and these boots were very difficult to get on at first, but I took them to a boot guy and had them stretched around the calf, and now they fit great. They only took about 1 day to wear in, and now they are comfortable. The reason that they are only getting a 4 from me, is because I was hoping they would stand up straighter and not slouch so much in the ankle. I think it is just the style and the type of leather, but overall I love them.

These are very stylish and go with jeans and skirts. I have skinny calfs and these boots fit perfectly - they aren't hugging my calfs but they aren't too wide like many other boots. They are very comfortable, I wore them all day at work the first time I got them and had no problems. I am giving 4 stars because the soles wear off quickly and they don't have much traction. Other than that, great boots!

Just as a heads up to everyone. The brush off dark brown color is very different than is what's shown online. It is a more gray brown. However other than that they are good looking boots!

These boots run large. They seemed about 1/2 to an entire size bigger than what I normally wear. They also were not very fitted to my leg at all. Very rain boot like style wise. They looked sloppy and puddle jumper like. I returned them for a more fashionable pair.
